Newcastle Get Fantastic 3-0 Win – Video

5:11 pm, Saturday, April 16th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 41 Comments

Newcastle today got their first win in 8 games and over two months when we beat Swansea 3-0.

We went ahead in the first half with a good header straight from a corner from Jamaal Lascelles after 40 minutes – who had a very good game at the back.

Goals in the second half in the last 10 minutes from acting captain Moussa Sissoko – his first of the season – and then Andros Townsend got one who had another excellent game for Newcastle United.

Moussa Sissoko – first goal this season

Sunderland did us a favor in the early game by convincingly beating Norwich 3-0 away at Carrow Road – so we gained 6 goals of goal difference on Norwich City today – as did Sunderland – but it’s still going to be tough to survive.

    Happy Birthday Rafa!!!

Shelvey now public enemy no1 I see.

He’s far from poor. We’ve seen his quality in spurts, it’s more just a matter of focus, feel he’s been thrust into a position of seniority prematurely and he’s trying too hard to live up to it. Play on the front foot with confidence, which we’re not in the ideal situation to be doing given our fragile position and he shines..

only seen the 2nd half but thought gini was’nt playing till about 75mins when he appeared on camera…..was that just the second half or was he the invisible man all game?

  • 5 Lindisfarne // Apr 16, 2016 at 5:19 PM

    Full strength Man City side.

  • 6 manxpie // Apr 16, 2016 at 5:19 PM

Oleg g where are your thoughts before the game fella! !!?

  • 7 Mag52 // Apr 16, 2016 at 5:19 PM

Good, and much needed win, with Andros my MOM.
Dummett and Lascelles both had good games.
    Happy b’day Rafa !

  • 8 Toon Tang // Apr 16, 2016 at 5:19 PM

Springy, it was one of his better ‘invisible man’ impersonations today.

  • 9 lukes26 // Apr 16, 2016 at 5:20 PM

Have to say, anita is the new Danny Simpson.

Everyone on this site reviled him, but I’ll take a fullback who can defend and offers nothing going forward over the likes of Janmaat/Santon any day

Wat is amazing tho shelvey getting stick when another anonymous performance from wiji gets nothing

  • 11 Ketsbaia9 // Apr 16, 2016 at 5:21 PM

Colback and Wijnaldum were poor. Tiote wasn’t great. We need Coloccini, Marveaux and Saivet in for the next game.

Shelvey doesn’t have the runners or forwards who can make the space for him to pass into.

Perez is so far off the boil I feel he should be on the bench, I like him but we cannot carry players.

Doumbia must be either rubbish or injured. Can’t understand why he has not made a bench position.

Aarons for Perez for me or SDJ even.

Mitro will always be a handful and I can see him playing against citeh.

Cisse runs into channels and he does stretch the back four – I just don’t see him scoring.

Two CB’S were excellent, Anita did well and Dummet was better than recent left backs.

Wini ? Still not seeing enough…

Sissoko ? Will this goal give him a boost !!!

    Massive 3 points

Ketsy mate, Marv is dead and buried, we may as well let that ship leave the dock in a peaceful manner.

  • 15 midweek weekend // Apr 16, 2016 at 5:23 PM

for crying out loud marveaux hasn’t kicked a ball for us in 2 and half years why the hell would he start now seriously ?

  • 16 DENIro // Apr 16, 2016 at 5:24 PM

I think, when Shelvey is captain, he is preoccupied with how others plays.. Must be relieved, and play the best that he can..

  • 17 Hail Wor Ashley // Apr 16, 2016 at 5:24 PM

Still banging the Marveaux drum? I applaud your tenacity.

  • 18 SPRINGY // Apr 16, 2016 at 5:26 PM

again?….i’ve never seen him play well in that position….he may chase and close down which is not always seen to be fair but i honestly thought he had got injured and went off at half time….there was nothing for 20 mins seen him on camera then nowt till he went off….technically good player but need to sort a position for him where he contributes more.

  • 19 Ron Knee // Apr 16, 2016 at 5:27 PM

    Newcastle goalscorer Jamaal Lascelles:

“It’s a massive result for us. The boys had a kick up the backside after last week’s loss to Southampton. Everyone knows we’ve got the talent, but today we showed how good we are and we stuck to the gameplan. After the early goal the fans were excellent. I thought I might get stick in the changing room after I had a go at my team-mates. I was going to say it sooner or later. The frustrating thing is we should have been playing like that earlier in the season.”

  • 20 lukes26 // Apr 16, 2016 at 5:28 PM

Dont want to brag too much, but I called it correctly two months ago:

    lukes26 // Feb 13, 2016 at 7:22 PM

i have this nagging feeling Doumbia isnt very good

its never good when coaches say he wasnt fit enough to play when he first arrived

that basically just means he was shit in training

  • 21 Hail Wor Ashley // Apr 16, 2016 at 5:29 PM

1-0 win against City and we’ll go 17th, same GD as Norwich having scored 1 more goal. Tight as Ket’s love for Marveaux.

Not that we’ll win 1-0, probably get thumped 5-1.

  • 22 SPRINGY // Apr 16, 2016 at 5:31 PM

cheers for the eplsite link earlier mate got to see the second half….was all over kodi looking for a decent link,so cheers

  • 23 Ketsbaia9 // Apr 16, 2016 at 5:31 PM

Stick De Jong in. At least he can get goals and be a threat. That’s what we need. Aarons can also start on the left. This would be my team:

    Anita Lascelles Coloccini Mbemba

    Townsend Siem De Jong Aarons

    Mitrovic Doumbia

  • 24 Bambams // Apr 16, 2016 at 5:32 PM

We need to win every home game to stay up.
Mackems have an easier run in and I still can’t see us getting anything away from home.

  • 25 Ketsbaia9 // Apr 16, 2016 at 5:32 PM

We beat Chelsea at home so we’ve got a chance against Man City.

  • 26 Ron Knee // Apr 16, 2016 at 5:32 PM

To put things in perspective, this is Citeh’s lineup today:

Hart; Zabaleta, Mangala, Otamendi, Kolarov, Fernandinho, Toure (c), Navas, De Bruyne, Nasri, Aguero

  • 27 JAMSHA // Apr 16, 2016 at 5:33 PM

Shelvey Needs Rest, His Good But Needs Time, His Too Slow Tracking Back

  • 28 Toonacious T // Apr 16, 2016 at 5:34 PM

    Hail Wor Ashley
I reposted my defence of Rafa’s selection that I made 45 minutes before kick off. Do I have to repost for a third time for slow learners ffs. Someone who can’t hold their hands up and admit when they are wrong are the real wee boys with no nads imo.

  • 29 Ketsbaia9 // Apr 16, 2016 at 5:35 PM

I think Sunderland might beat Arsenal in their next game. Norwich are down. Swap Mitrovic around with Cisse. Mitrovic seems to be getting more composed on the ball. Good threat.

  • 30 g.s.tooner // Apr 16, 2016 at 5:36 PM

    Sunderland – Arsenal H, Stoke A ,Chelsea H ,Everton H , Watford A

    Newcastle – City H Liverpool A Palace H Villa A Spurs H

    I’d choose our runin anyday…

  • 31 Ketsbaia9 // Apr 16, 2016 at 5:36 PM

We can beat City. They’re not that good. Their defence is their weak point. Toure is getting old. We’ve got a chance now.

  • 32 Hail Wor Ashley // Apr 16, 2016 at 5:37 PM

WTF you on about, that was aimed at Oleg G. Pipe down divvy, getting all proud over being right, must not happen often. I responded to you directly if you didn’t notice.

  • 33 Mister Tuff // Apr 16, 2016 at 5:38 PM

Need Sunderland and Norwich to start losing games now – us to keep winning and we might just save ourselves.

  • 34 Bambams // Apr 16, 2016 at 5:38 PM

We won’t beat anyone if you change or CB partnership.

Those two deserve to stay in the team.

Wini might show what he can do on Tuesday night….Shop window and all that.

SDJ still has a part to play in survival….Just have this strange feeling.

Springy no bother fella, I spent most of the second half hiding from the TV

  • 35 SKAY1892 // Apr 16, 2016 at 5:39 PM

@Kets we didn’t beat Chelsea,we drew 2-2 after leading 2-0. Although we did beat them last year if I remember rightly.

  • 36 Munster Mag // Apr 16, 2016 at 5:39 PM

Oleg what were ur comments pre game? At least some of us stick our necks out and make our opinion. Delighted with the result but reckon makems will do us. Just hope i am wrong. We needed to beat them in the derby game and we cudnt lose to norwich. Hopefully this will lift confidence. It was swansea at home though, lets not lose sight of that. I despise sam but we lost to norwich and they won. I think he bought well and has a consistent goal threat. Hope i’m wrong. What we need is a palace collapse but i think that has been stemmed. We need another team down there. Happy birthday rafa, hope the spanish red tastes good tonight.

  • 37 Toon Tang // Apr 16, 2016 at 5:40 PM

Damn right Springy, he does a bit off the ball but like you say he needs to maybe go looking to get involved. What is his best position? He scored all his goals bombing on from the left but when he’s been used centrally he disappears into the mayweed.

I know same say “he’s the leading goalscorer, we need him on the pitch” etc but if we break it down it was 4 goals in one game meaning he’s bagged 5 in 33 games. Pretty bogus stats really.

Maybe drop him for one game and see if it gives him the shunt up the arse he needs.

  • 38 SPRINGY // Apr 16, 2016 at 5:40 PM

dont blame ya mate, it was a bit squeaky bot time till the 3rd went in if im honest!lol

  • 39 Bambams // Apr 16, 2016 at 5:42 PM

I hope you are right mate, I cannot see too many thinking we will get 3 points against Citeh, Liverpool, Spuds and even Villa away will be difficult, nothing for them to worry about now.

Need Arsenal to really spank the Mackems…Take the wind out their sails

  • 40 SPRINGY // Apr 16, 2016 at 5:46 PM

i think stated earlier this week somewhere that he played right of a central midfield 3,and that position won him dutch player of the year so maybe right midfield and townsend left….but in fairness townsend had a good game there today so would’nt really want to change any thing to drastic now we have actually got a decent result and win…..its a something to think about i spose.

  • 41 g.s.tooner // Apr 16, 2016 at 5:56 PM

If we beat palace, villa, which we are more than capable of; we need 4points from City, Lpool and Spurs to be safe.

Dont care where we get them but I think 1 at city and 3 at spurs is more likely…. This is all assuming of course that Norwich and Sunderland lose the games they’re supposed to :S
