Rafa – A Win Against City Will Be My Greatest Standout Moment

The Sky Sports reporter at the Rafa Benitez press conference today for the Manchester City game said it was exactly 25 years today that Sky Sports went on the air, and he asked Rafa what had been his greatest standout moment in England with the clubs he has managed – Liverpool, Chelsea and now Newcastle United.

Rafa Benitez – an inspirational manager

This is how Rafa answered that question:

“The best one could be the victory tomorrow against Manchester City – that would be the best one.”

“If I have this one you can ask me at the next press conference and I will tell you this one – so hopefully we can win against Manchester City and it will be this one.”

When I decided to come here it was because I knew  this was a massive club,  you can see the crowd of 48,000 – 50,000 the other day still supporting the team – so if we win tomorrow night it will be a great achievement.”

Rafa also said it was important for everybody at Newcastle to stick together and concentrate only on what we can control:

“We cannot control the other teams, we have to control what we can – that’s our team, the mentality, the focus, the fans, the staff and everyone here.”

“As I’ve said before we have to stick together and try to get 3 points in this game – and then think about the next one.”

That’s not the first time the manager  has asked everybody associated with Newcastle United to pull together in the same direction to try to get Newcastle United to survive the drop.

It was another impressive performance from Rafa in the press conference today as he tells his players again and again what they have to do to start winning games – and maybe it’s finally getting through to them.

He certainly appears to have bought into the club despite being handed mission impossible. I’ll be giving it large for you tomorrow Rafa and I know I won’t be alone. Can you imagine what a win tomorrow night would do for everybody connected to the club? Massive. Monumental. Continue ad nauseum. 😉 If we can beat City the players will believe they can beat anybody – and rightly so. I might be dreaming, but that’s what fans do innit? We dream, we hope and generally get let down. Gluttons for punishment. 🙂

As someone on NUFC.com said, its not the disappointment that kills you, its the hope. However, if Rafa can get our own particular Gini to come out of his bottle, maybe we can fashion some sort of result? HTL!
