Newcastle have now taken 4 points from the last two (home) games and Alan Shearer was again impressed by the spirited performance of the Magpies in tonight’s game which ended in 1 -1 draw with high-flying Mancsheter City although Aguero’s goal after 14 minutes was clearly offside and should have been disallowed.
The lads were roared on by the crowd and we equalized after 31 minutes with a great goal from right-back Vurnon Anita, who was praised by Benitez before the game for his overall attitude.
The great Alan Shearer
BBC pundit Alan Shearer had this to say at the end of the game tonight on Radio Five Live:
“Certainly on tonight’s evidence, and on Saturday’s, there’s now a togetherness,” “The fans appreciate now that the players are giving everything.
“They’ve given themselves an opportunity – three points on Saturday and a point tonight which is not a disaster. On tonight’s evidence, the players are certainly with Benitez.”
The Newcastle players again give their all, but we just didn’t have the luck to get all 3 points, but that Aguero goal was massively controversial – because it was two yards offside and it was clear for all to see so what exactly was the linesman doing?
We needed the 3 points but one point from this game is a good one – we’ll take it.
And it snaps the 12 game losing streak in the league against the Citizens.
Now the lads need to show the same guts and spirit at Liverpool on Saturday and we need to pick something up there.
We are still in with a chance of survival but need wins.

Don’t think shelvey can cope with working hard without the ball, anyway I’m off…chuffed with the point!!

Comment #3Liverpools eyes will be on the EL and there are rumours of locker room issues, why cant we take advantage of that? If the team play like they did tonight we can do it
More interested in what Rafa will change for it? Perez and Cisse’s spots are up for grabs in my eyes. Shelvey, Gini, Mitro and de Jong are pushing I imagine

Puts us in with a chance.
Hope we can get something out of Liverpool but I worry their work rate after 2 ga es in a week will be too much.
The difference today was the work rate and that we were winning second balls which we haven’t all season.
My MOTM goes to Tiote. He was a man possessed. Great passing, great interceptions, looked after the ball, made some key tackles.
I thought sissoko was also brilliant. But he did run out of steam. He seemed to be the marker for the rest of the team in regards to tempo. Much better when he can roam a bit.
Anita was great again. Not only for the goal. He was reading the game very well in defence.
Those 3 were the best but overall I don’t think anyone played poorly. But Colback can do better. Perez needs to compose himself a bit more.
Someone already mentioned it, but city did start moving up the pitch a bit when Cisse went off. I think that is why rafa has been playing him.

Comment #5It’s a terrible misstake by the linesman, those are the errors that can relegate a club.

Comment #8Hats off to Anita and Tiote today. Really the whole team played with passion and effort. Rafa is managing to get this group believing again after poor man management of Carver and McClaren.

From previous
I dislike Sissoko mate, his attitude is terrible and thats a sin in my eyes (I understand why his attitude is so poor but that doesnt change my feelings towards him) BUT tonight he was great and he looked the player I liked when he signed
He lost the ball and made the wrong decision a few times but so what, thatll happen when ur trying to win. I am a big fan of Townsend but he will lose the ball a lot during a game but he is always trying

Comment #10I had us staying up even without this point. Can’t see Norwich winning another game, same with the Scum, but with the team we can route Palace and Villa.

Comment #12Our defence is looking well drilled Lascalles and Mbemba look like they have been playing together for ages !
Anita again superb at right back maybe this is his best position in the premiership ? Has pace , tries hard and loves a tackle just what you need in a right back !
Can we put in 100% work rate for 3 games in a row

Comment #15Every player looks at the linesman when they score and aren’t sure if they were on or off. Not sure what point you are trying to make, only showing your lack of understanding in the game of anything. Have you never played the game?
I’ve looked at the linesman many a time bud, as he’s the one who makes the decision and I can’t judge if I’m offside. Go play the game, get an understanding of why someone looks at the linesman when they’ve scored or are clean through on goal, then you’ll understand.
Have a good night all…..toooooooooooooooon, I can hear the great escape playing in my head!!

Yeah our French rift was said to be guff until it all came out in the wash months later, as I say mate I dont know if their is truth to it but if the speculation could help us
And ur right Klopp hasnt exactly set their season on fire, very average all season nothing to really fear, City have been better than them and we did great against them

Comment #20if we can stay disciplined and work as a team like we have done on both our home games there is no way we will go down. There are going to be ups and downs , mistakes and a load of nervewracking moments untill the last game of the season , but if we play as we did tonight we will be safe after the villa game , hope so anyway , just dont fancy spurs on last day to stay up.

Comment #21It’ll be massive for us if Leicester wrap up the title before we plays Spurs…..
Real shame Vardy was sent off and they only picked up a point.
I think Norwich won’t pick up much but Sunderland might with Defoe scoring so we defo need Arsenal to do us a favour and hope that Everton and Watford can get in their way too
