Benitez – I Have Prepared The Team To Get 3 Points

8:58 am, Tuesday, April 19th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 3 Comments

After Newcastle spent £29M to bring four players in during the January transfer window we have been in the bottom three since mid-February and if we win tonight we will go ahead of Norwich on goal difference and be 4th bottom.

Newcastle have been in the bottom three since we were hammered by Chelsea 5-1 because we have picked up only on one point in seven games before Saturday’s terrific win against Swansea.

So if we can win a few more games before the end of the season we are even in with a chance of surviving which would be unbelievable – after all looked lost.

Rafa Benitez – prepared the team to win

At the moment we are one goal behind Norwich on goal difference and we have scored the same number of goals – 35 – so even a 1-0 win will see us go ahead of them on the number of goals scored.

Manager Rafa Benitez is well aware we need wins to survive and his game plan is to win tonight and he is urging his players to go all out for the 3 points:

“I think it will be a challenge for them just to play against Manchester City and also with it being on TV and I think that you have a lot of extra motivation because we won the other day.”

“But I’m sure a lot of them will see this opportunity to get out of the bottom three and it will be massive.” “Each player will have his own ideas, his own mentality.”

“I don’t know how it will affect them but for us and for the staff, we will push the team a little bit, to realise how important it us for everyone to be there out of the bottom three because it will get us more confidence.”

“I was thinking about the three options – win, lose or draw,” “I cannot change things before – all I can do is prepare the team to get three points.”

“After we will do the maths and the numbers.” “At the moment I am thinking we will win and see what happens after.”

“Even winning this game we have to consider that the next one will be the most important game.”

“Still you have to win some games.”

Newcastle have five games to play and two of those games are against top four teams in Manchester City and Tottenham and we also have a trip to Liverpool next Saturday, so it’s not going to be easy.

Manchester City are in good form at the moment and we have lost the last 12 league games against them – so our lads have nothing to lose.

They have to play at their very best and with 52.000 fans behind them tonight anything is possible.

A win would be simply unbelievable and would give our players tremendous confidence they can indeed avoid the drop next month.

So we have everything to play for.

Because of how good City are – I think winning the central midfield battle is vital for us to stand any chance. THeir break up of play and possession game is top quality.

So we need a 3 man midfield – then two wingers and striker up top.

I can’t decide who should play where though. Such a dilemma

    ————- Darlow ————-

    ——– Tiote — Colback ——–

Mitro, Gini, Perez, Aarons, Shelvey all options of the bench if we can keep it tight for 70 mins.

Did anyone see Jermaine Jenas’ analysis on MOTD? He was bang on, Rafa drilling NUFC like he used to LFC. As soon as the opposition make a backward pass, the whole back 4 moves up as a unit which leaves little space in between Def/Mid which is where some of City’s best players operate. It also forces the team further up the pitch rather than bringing pressure upon themselves. Very simple but can be very effective.

We win when we have to, whoever we play, i will rarher us playong a top side rather than West Brom, Stoke, Watford etc. We just tend to get more space against the top teams and somehow play better. We should play Cisse thats for sure. Tiote og colback in front of the deffence. Than shelvey in front of them, with musa and gini on the flanks. Perez and mitro as subs.
