Rafa Benitez congratulates Vurnon Anita who and another good game tonight

Here’s Rafa Benitez’ Sky Sports interview after another good performance from the Newcastle team tonight against Manchester City – a good 1-1 draw.

Notice Rafa refused to get involved with the Aguero offside goal – because he said we cannot change that and of course he’s right about that.

The Newcastle players will fight until the last game against Tottenham at home on May 15th – and the players have a lot more confidence these days and the team is a lot more compact than it’s been all season.

Rafa is starting to make the difference – so let’s hope it’s not too late – we need wins.

Voted for Anita, he defended very well, made very well timed runs and took one for the team just before half time. Delighted for him after the comments on earlier threads. Unlucky not to win it but great to see the team playing well again

Tbh Rafa is the most important factor in our performances so every game Id pick him if I could but since it has to be players I went for Tiote, thought he was great along with the the back four and midfield

Id also say Darlow was very good, looked assured and confident (can we say hes a better keeper than Elliot yet? Or must we wait a few more games)

if we can stay disciplined and work as a team like we have done on both our home games there is no way we will go down. There are going to be ups and downs , mistakes and a load of nervewracking moments untill the last game of the season , but if we play as we did tonight we will be safe after the villa game , hope so anyway , just dont fancy spurs on last day to stay up.

Can we now do 3 games in a row with 100% work rate?

He may have to rotate as a few players who are known for picking up little knocks all looked knackered by the end Townsend , Tiote , Colback and Perez were all done in

Wijnaldum looked in the mood as he came on although I wish we had have brought Aarons on at the same time as I dont think Zabaleta would have fancied him running at him for the last 15 minutes

It is the curse of the Toon. As soon as we get a top manager we lose him. Not as inspirational as Kevin but a better tactician. He would have won us something. You cannot make a silk purse out of a pigs ear in 10 games but he is trying. I think he will fail. Too many weak players who are responding too slowly to a top manager. Pulis is next. Happy days.
