Newcastle Draw 1-1 – Augero Goal Clearly Offside

When you are second bottom of the league you don’t get many breaks at all and when Sergio Aguero put Manchester City ahead after 14 minutes from a free kick he was clearly almost two yards offside as the video replays showed.

However, Vurnon Anita came back with a very good goal after 31 minutes with a low shot with his left foot past Joe Hart and Newcastle will have finished this game thinking they could have won it – and we really needed all 3 points.

One point keeps us stuck in second bottom place – one point behind Sunderland and 2 points behind Norwich, but Sunderland now have a game in hand on us and a much better goal difference.

Vurnon Anita’s brilliant goal with his left foot

It was another terrific game at St James’s Park tonight with Newcastle giving as much as they got from a good Manchester City side and the changes Rafa has made in the way the team plays and the attitudes of our players is now there for all to see.

We now look a good side and just hope there’s still time to get the wins we still need to survive in the Premier League.

In previous games this season Newcastle may have folded after the controversial first goal, but not this team and they fought back well and it was a really good goal from Vurnon Anita to level the scored and this lad is fast becoming one of the stars of the side.

In the second half both sides went for the winner – City to get further up the league from 3rd place and Newcastle to get further up the league table from 19th place – you wouldn’t have believed this was a game between sides at both ends of the table.

Rafa tried to change the game again and pushed for the winner in the second half and on came Aleksandar Mitrovic, Georginio Wijnaldum and Rolando Aarons, but we just couldn’t get that winning goal.

Wijnaldum was denied a goal near the end of the game by a good save from England goalkeeper Joe Hart.

The Newcastle players had truly given everything they had in this game and were almost on their knees at the end – and it was great to see the lads very warmly applauded by the crowd after an all-out effort – unfortunately we just didn’t have the luck to get all 3 points.

Not surprisingly, referee Friend and his assistants were booed off the field and basically you can make a case they cost Newcastle 2 points in this game.

The Premier League officiating just has to improve the video replays were shown around the world and it was so clearly offside it was embarrassing  to the Premier League.

Somebody needs to ask the linesman what he was doing when the free kick was taken since Aguero had been in an offside position long before the free kick came over.

But we have to move on and try to get all 3 points at Anfield on Saturday and our players must turn up for that game.

Unfortunately we haven’t won a league game at Anfield since 1994 – so time to break that poor streak – obviously.
