Newcastle put in a scintillating performance last night against an in-form Manchester City side and were a little unlucky not to take all 3 points in the 1-1 draw, but this gutsy and all-out performance from the players will give them loads of confidence.
They now have to go into the final four games of the season and try to get 3 points in every single one of them, which is possible based on last night’s performance.
Newcastle fans now have some hope, because of the last two performances and we could even get enough points to survive.
Rafa Benitez after the game last night
Let’s hope he stays if we go down
But the club – woefully managed for the last two years from the top – waited far too long to bring in Rafa to replace the woeful Steve McClaren – who is maybe a mediocre Championship manager at best.
Here’s some of what Rafa Benitez said after the game last night:
“For us, it’s just don’t look at the table too much, it’s just concentrating on the next game, that’s it.” “If you are doing numbers, you are wasting time.”
“You have to try to get three points in the next one, then approach the others with the same idea and see where you are after the last game.”
“To see the team with this belief, this fight, you have to be optimistic for the rest of the games.”
Those are really smart words to his players from the impressive Newcastle manager.
Sergio Aguero’s 14th minute goal was way offside and should have been disallowed – and the linesman should have some explaining to do.
But nothing will be done about it – and it’s yet another embarrassing decision that was seen around the world last night with TV replays showing the Argentine was well offside.
What was the linesman doing when the free kick was taken that led to the goal?
Oh well – as Rafa says – we have to move on and try to beat Liverpool on Saturday.
Last night we broke a 12 game losing streak against City in the league.
It was a pulsating performance from all our Newcastle players – we are proud of them!
