Is This Newcastle’s Best Side For Liverpool?

9:59 am, Friday, April 22nd, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 8 Comments

We don’t know what the latest injury situation is at Newcastle until Rafa Benitez’ press conference later today, but as far as the starting eleven goes for tomorrow at Liverpool that isn’t as important as it usually is.

That’s because the lads have played extremely well in the last couple of game in collecting a good 4 points and it’s extremely unlikely that any player coming back from injury will start tomorrow.

That includes Fabricio Coloccini, Daryl (I fought the wall and the wall won) Janmaat and Kevin Mbabu.

Jamaal Lascelles and Chancel Mbemba have been surprisingly effective in central defense over the last couple of games and Vurnon Anita not only scored a great goal from the right back position on Tuesday night against the strong Manchester City side, but he had another outstanding game.

So no chance of Coloccini or Janmaat making the side tomorrow.

It’s good to see Kevin Mbabu fit again and he could potentially make the bench tomorrow and since his contract is up in the summer it’s a great time for him to impress the manager.

We’ll keep it simple and think Rafa will start an unchanged side tomorrow, from the one that did so well on Tuesday night in getting the 1-1 home draw against Manchester City.

Anita Mbemba Lascelles Dummett
Tiote Colback
Townsend Perez Sissoko (c)
Subs: Woodman Saivet Shelvey Wijnaldum Aarons de Jong Mitrovic

Coloccini, Janmaat or even Mbabu could make the bench tomorrow if fit.

So still no place for Shelvey or Wijnaldum and Newcastle’s big challenge tomorrow is to play as well on the road as we do at home – if Newcastle don’t do that we will lose this game at Anfield.

What would your team be for Liverpool?

We will need cisse to be clinical, especially if liverpool control the game. he’s got about a 1 in 3 scoring record so he’s due one. It’s just a shame that apart from his infrequent goals he does absolutely nothing. personally I’d play doumbia above him if we’re looking for a striker than can play off the shoulder or evne perez or wijnaldum.

Same team but with Sissoko from the middle and Gini out left.

We could do with Cisse scoring a goal. He is obviously doing the job that Benitez is asking of him, but it’s not unreasonable to expect a striker to score now and then is it? (unless you are Manu Riviere of course)

Rafa does seem the type of man to just pull doumbia at the bag and give him a start imo….also I’d rather start cisse then him replace mitro get got more from him off bench atm

    Janmaat, Colo, Taylor, Mbabu
    Anita, Shelvey
    Perez, Mouss, Gini

Back to what what McClaren would have done. C’mon The Toon!
