These Were Newcastle’s Top Two Players At Liverpool

2:51 pm, Sunday, April 24th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 30 Comments

Both Andros Townsend and Vurnon Anita have been in very good form lately during the Newcastle revival and both continued their good form yesterday having excellent games at Anfield.

Vurnon continues to look a much better right-back than he is a central midfielder and maybe he has found his best position at right full back.

Andros Townsend continues to shine since his arrival from Tottenham in January – and he is our Man of the Match with 38% of the vote after another excellent display on Newcastle’s right wing where he continued to run at the Liverpool defense.

Rafa Benitez congratulates Andros Townsend after the game

Vurnon is second in the voting with 21% of the vote and he had a good assist with a right wing cross after 48 minutes that Papiss Cisse headed home past Simon Mignolet to make it 2-1 and then Jack Colback got the equalizer after 66 minutes.

After 30 minutes played yesterday it looked like it was all over and not much better than our last road game at Southampton, but our lads came fighting back in the second half to get a credible 2-2 draw.

That’s to their immense credit and there were other good performances from other players such as Jack Colback, Cheick Tiote, and Chancel Mbemba.

Now we have to win our last three league games and we could even be safe.

Arsenal should’ve been at least 2 up by now.

    That is not great.

The penalties weren’t given which is a good thing for us as the first one would’ve been for Sunderland.

  • 2 Blackley and Brownlie // Apr 24, 2016 at 2:53 PM

…and the second one would’ve been for Arsenal

  • 3 Bambams // Apr 24, 2016 at 2:53 PM

    Arsenal are shocking!

Wanting far too long to play their passes….

Not comfortable with this at all

Let’s have a whip round to get Bobby a new TV.

The scums just know how to grind results out in this stage of the season.

It’s going to be incredibly hard for us to survive. We need Sunderland to implode but they don’t seem like doing so.

Still going for an arsenal win. They’re the ones creating chances. Red card for clattermole when arsenal score. Out for the run in. Mackems implode. Game over. Easy this prediction lark innit. Lol

Did 3 accumulators yesterday. Got 14/20 (x2) and 15/20. Swear this is the way forward. Came close to winning £30k on a 50p bet the other week.

I didn’t think Arsenal played well against us but still managed to nick one. They need to draw Sunderland out, then break at speed

  • 9 Ron Knee // Apr 24, 2016 at 3:11 PM

Solid defending from SAFC. If they score it’ll be hard for Arsenal to equalise.

A point to ponder – Allardyce’s never been relegated.

There’s always hope this could be his first time.

  • 11 Tsunki // Apr 24, 2016 at 3:17 PM

This is life – shortening. The longer this goes on the more likely the mackems will score. Usually some fringe sub comes on and gets an injury time winner. Or do it seems.

  • 12 Tsunki // Apr 24, 2016 at 3:17 PM

    So it seems

  • 13 Hail Wor Ashley // Apr 24, 2016 at 3:19 PM

Sanchez needs pulling, all Arsenal’s flow stops when he gets it. Happened many times.

  • 14 Blackley and Brownlie // Apr 24, 2016 at 3:22 PM

Come on Arsene. Earn your corn.

  • 15 damma99 // Apr 24, 2016 at 3:24 PM

I wish Arsenal would waken up. Take off bloody Giroud.

  • 16 Hail Wor Ashley // Apr 24, 2016 at 3:24 PM

Even if arsenal nick it, we needed them to smash by 3+.

  • 17 Blackley and Brownlie // Apr 24, 2016 at 3:25 PM

I could throttle Charnley for putting us through this shite. Just because he was too arrogant to listen to the Fans Forum and revisit the mistakes of the previous season.

  • 18 Bobbybee // Apr 24, 2016 at 3:25 PM

Just keeping 1-0 to the ars-en-al and all will be well. 😉

  • 19 Blackley and Brownlie // Apr 24, 2016 at 3:28 PM

OMG! Papiss Giroud running offside again.

  • 20 Bobbybee // Apr 24, 2016 at 3:28 PM

Giroud offside again. At least cisse does that for less wages. 😉

  • 21 Hail Wor Ashley // Apr 24, 2016 at 3:28 PM

Sanchez off ffs, having a stinker of Riviere proportions.

  • 22 Hail Wor Ashley // Apr 24, 2016 at 3:29 PM

    Sunderland looking more likely.

  • 23 Oleg G // Apr 24, 2016 at 3:29 PM

    It doesn’t look good.

Arsenal want to go home already.

  • 24 lukes26 // Apr 24, 2016 at 3:31 PM

    jesus…this is nerve wrecking

feel arsenal are going to have more chances in the last twenty minutes

  • 25 Bobbybee // Apr 24, 2016 at 3:32 PM

Indeed, charnley is to blame. I suspect he’ll pay for it at the upcoming inquiry/inquest. Twill be bloody i sense.

  • 26 Oleg G // Apr 24, 2016 at 3:32 PM

Ozil is not in the game at all.

And all Arsenal is doing is trying to outplay themselves.

They need 500 passes before they shoot the ball.

  • 27 davis_toons // Apr 24, 2016 at 3:32 PM

Draw is going to be the results.

  • 28 ilovetoon8788 // Apr 24, 2016 at 3:32 PM

If Sunderland draw this it will make our result at Liverpool pointless. Haiz.

  • 29 Jib // Apr 24, 2016 at 3:32 PM

    C’mon Walcott you little beauty

  • 30 NoahJ // Apr 24, 2016 at 3:58 PM

arsenal were bizarrely devoid of enthusiasm or ideas today, and looked tired after their thursday match (whereas sunderland have had a whole week).

gutted they got a point, but they should be gutted they don’t have 3 points, because they had enough chances.

    this isn’t over
