Top Tottenham Star Will Likely Miss Newcastle Game

10:17 pm, Tuesday, April 26th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 98 Comments

Newcastle need to make sure we win the next two games against Crystal Palace and Aston Villa and then we would have a very decent chance of making it three wins in a row in the final game of the season and possible safety from relegation.

Wouldn’t that be something.

Tottenham, with their draw last night against West Brom at White hart Lane now look like the best they can finish in the league is second top – and they will not be coming to St. James’ Park on May 15th where a draw or a win could get them the title.

Dele Alli

Dele Alli – charged with violent conduct against West Brom

And the other good news for Newcastle is the youngster Tottenham beat Newcastle to 16 months ago – due to our dithering around again not being able to make a decision – Dele Alli – has been charged with violent conduct form that game.

That charge, if it holds up, usually carries a three match ban and would mean Alli could not play in any of the last three games of the season.

That includes the game against Newcastle so things are starting to potentially line up nicely for Newcastle.

But we cannot give any soft goals away in the last three games either.

Rafa Benitez will be working his socks off for the rest of the season (what’s new?) and will try his very best to conjure up a number of wins.

Two sellouts in the home games against Palace and Tottenham will help a lot and our lads will need to play out of their skins at Villa Park to secure only our third win on the road this season.

We have everything to play for and Villa don’t – but they will still give us a good game.

It’s up to our playersΒ to want the win so much more than Villa.

VanToonMan yer thats team team i go for just about picks it self maybe mitro for cisse as the the blokes so frustrating and has the worst first touch ever

  • 2 Bobbybee // Apr 26, 2016 at 10:26 PM

VTM, apart from mitro, as stickle points out, i’m with you on that team. I think being benched has given Gini a much needed kick up the jacksie and we could really do with him being in form for the run in. Can’t see Rafa not agreeing either. It does pick itself and this is rafa, not macca! πŸ˜‰

  • 3 Tsunki // Apr 26, 2016 at 10:33 PM

@1 – yet despite the lack of game time scored a vital goal the other day. Wouldn’t worry me if Cisse started again. I think he’d get better if played more.

  • 4 magscar // Apr 26, 2016 at 10:35 PM

    Mr Tuff last thread @178

Just checking before I call it a night – you say it was an innocent comment Ok I will take it as you say.

  • 5 SPRINGY // Apr 26, 2016 at 10:37 PM

    evening all
cisse’s first touch is horrendous, but i believe he’s playing for his mobility which helps defensively…perez is poor on the left…seems to be trying to hard and getting caught on the ball…that side will probably be the starting eleven, although im not a fan of gini on the left, shame aarons is’nt showing some sort of form he showed pre-season…that left hand side is a constant pain in the arse this season.

  • 6 Mister Tuff // Apr 26, 2016 at 10:38 PM

Christ he’s still here – thats me off for the night -even I’ve had enough.
Get those meds taken and a quick howl out the window.

  • 7 manxpie // Apr 26, 2016 at 10:40 PM

id say we need both mitro and cisse on from now especially the next 2 go for it we have more confidence and fight lets score some goals

  • 8 Bobbybee // Apr 26, 2016 at 10:42 PM

Tsunki, it was his first goal in a while though. It’s a difficult choice because neither are prolific when all’s said and done. I think it depends on how rafa chooses to play. If he wants pace, but a man who traps the ball like a wall, then it’s cisse. If he wants brawn, good hold up play but misses chances, it’s Mitro. Spoiled for choice eh? πŸ™‚

  • 9 stestickle // Apr 26, 2016 at 10:43 PM

Think mitro and both need a partner maybe each other but rafa likes 4 5 1 and has it working imo

  • 10 Average_Contents // Apr 26, 2016 at 10:44 PM

I agree. We need the added threat of two strikers. Would this mean that sissoko gets pushed out wide though.

Not so keen on that tbh.

  • 11 SPRINGY // Apr 26, 2016 at 10:44 PM

i’d like to see 2 up top but cant see rafa changing it as the system has worked so far….team need to start awake and fired up…coz no doubt pardew will know we are notoriously slow to start and take about ten mins or a goal to wake up

  • 12 stestickle // Apr 26, 2016 at 10:46 PM

right im too tired now night all and happy living

  • 13 Bobbybee // Apr 26, 2016 at 10:49 PM

Springy. We only start playing when behind, so maybe we Should score an early own goal in the first minute and begin playing straight away? πŸ™‚ get a good 90 minutes out of them that way. πŸ™‚

  • 14 SPRINGY // Apr 26, 2016 at 10:52 PM

but knowing them silly sods they’ll give another goal away straight after!!…..i think expecting 90 mins is a bit optimistic as well!lol

  • 15 manxpie // Apr 26, 2016 at 10:58 PM

well i think we coul be quite fluid and interchangeable with gini sissko and townsend but dropping colback and putting sisko there and 2 up top is more threatening and surely more worrying for the other team

  • 16 SPRINGY // Apr 26, 2016 at 11:03 PM

rafa may surprise us all, we’ve played the same for the last 3 games and maybe thinks that keeping the same is a bit predictable now and with us being more confident and at home may go more offensive with 2 strikers….it would certainly throw pardew off his game if he did…i doubt this will happen, but theres always the chance.

  • 17 Bobbybee // Apr 26, 2016 at 11:03 PM

Springy, you know, i’d take going behind as long as we win. Won’t do my ticker much good , but i like excitement so wtf. Gonna be a very nervy run in, but it’s not beyond us. Rafa has done wonders with those players and those gears keep clicking into place. The latest ones being spurs done for and now alli out. It just all seems to be fitting into an order from which we can triumph. Might be just me, but i hope it isn’t. πŸ™‚

  • 18 SPRINGY // Apr 26, 2016 at 11:08 PM

one game at a time mate,if the mackems win and we got beat this weekend it would be disastrous….leicester could do us a big favour this weekend by beating manure…there should be one or two things starting to fall into place this weekend results and bottom.

  • 19 Bobbybee // Apr 26, 2016 at 11:11 PM

Manpixie, i would only use one dm myself at home, but i think this might be a case for if it ain’t broke… I think just getting this lot to play in an organised fashion is a minor miracle and maybe not push them too far. However he does it, a win will do for me. We must win at any cost. I just can’t wait. πŸ˜‰

  • 20 SPRINGY // Apr 26, 2016 at 11:14 PM

a win is a must, yes….but giving them a good hammering would be much better…and fun!…1)pardew,we owe him a twonking for lots of reasons and 2)goal difference

  • 21 manxpie // Apr 26, 2016 at 11:14 PM

aye springy im only hoping as we still ain’t creating wat we should with wat we have, townsend gini sisko cisse mitro should mean goals and worry palace at the very least
we’ll see but i imagine your right tbh, but at home verse palace needing 3 points thats my choice

  • 22 Bobbybee // Apr 26, 2016 at 11:19 PM

Seriously springy, i don’t even want to think about that happening! Too scary at night. πŸ™‚ We need to win one more game than they do. Sounds easy if you say it quickly. πŸ™‚ A sneaky feeling we’ll do it, but then i’m a terrible optimist marra. If we lose saturday i’ll still find a way to be hopeful until i know we’re gone.

  • 23 Bobbybee // Apr 26, 2016 at 11:22 PM

Springy, nothing would give me greater pleasure than breaking the record score – and not just for the gd either. Pardiola indeed! πŸ™‚

  • 24 SPRINGY // Apr 26, 2016 at 11:25 PM

beating palace applys the pressure, whether thats 1-0 with a goal in the 98th minute bouncing off someones arse,or winning 6-0..2 hatricks 1 each for mitro and cisse makes no difference the pressure is whats important…arsenal dropped the ball last week and they have norwich at half 5 on sat….need games from the arseholes and stoke…the mackems have three games in the last week, pressure could be telling in the last week…. as long as we get to the last week

  • 25 Bobbybee // Apr 26, 2016 at 11:32 PM

Springy, my sentiments entirely. Getting to the final game still in with a shout is the best we can hope for. I’ll take it all day marra, with open arms. Don’t care how we do it, it just hope we do it.

  • 26 SPRINGY // Apr 26, 2016 at 11:38 PM

ano cisse scored last week, but if he had’nt… most people would of been going nuts on here about his close control and first touch… so bad for a premier league player…i was starting to actually think maybe riverre should be given a try it was that bad….hope they have had him doing extra training coz its vital that the striker hangs on to the ball as much as he can…and he could’nt!

  • 27 Bobbybee // Apr 26, 2016 at 11:40 PM

Maybe we should all sing the old virinia wolfs song to rafa. “Oh won’t you sta-ay, just a little bit longer. Oh won’t you sta-a-ay, just a little bit more.” πŸ™‚

  • 28 lesh // Apr 26, 2016 at 11:46 PM

Haven’t read any posts yet and can’t be sure whether I’ll need to put a tin hat on.

Has the spat of all spats finished yet?

  • 29 SPRINGY // Apr 26, 2016 at 11:48 PM

think so, lesh….but keep the hat handy mate!

  • 30 Bobbybee // Apr 26, 2016 at 11:49 PM

Springy aye, he traps the ball as good as a wall – it just bounces back off him so bad i cringe for him sometimes. If it’s pace he wants, why not stick Aarons up top! πŸ˜‰ Now that would be interesting! Better control as well!

  • 31 SPRINGY // Apr 26, 2016 at 11:51 PM

aarons just doesnt look interested when hes came on tbh…his pace up front could be interesting like.

  • 32 lesh // Apr 26, 2016 at 11:58 PM

    Stay? Who’s song you say?

My first hearing of the song was by Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs – must’ve been about 1962.

It lasted about a minute and a half.

  • 33 lesh // Apr 27, 2016 at 12:00 AM

Has somebody gone to his bed to put an end to hostilities?

Christ, the way it was going, it reminded me of me and wor lass!

  • 34 Bobbybee // Apr 27, 2016 at 12:01 AM

Would’ve finished so much earlier if the borg just accepted my truce marra, but when insults get really personal, ya just can’t let it sit can ya? πŸ™‚ if it’s not the borg and me, it’s jib, or anyone else they decide is this months target. The only consistent thing in every row on here is the borg. That should indicate something to any intelligent observer. Never took shyte in my life marra and i won’t take it from those lowlives. See how nice i am when they’re not attacking me? πŸ™‚

  • 35 manxpie // Apr 27, 2016 at 12:05 AM

i do hope in our last 2 home games the fans let rafa know we want him no matter wat, with many chants and banners and pull on his heart strings a bit even if it helps ashley make sure he stays if we go down so he doesn’t get quite the backlash he deserves

  • 36 Bobbybee // Apr 27, 2016 at 12:05 AM

That’s the one mate! Been covered a million times i think. Four seasons did it as well. It might even be theirs, although maurice wrote a lot of his own material so maybe not. Anyway, same record. πŸ˜‰

  • 37 SPRINGY // Apr 27, 2016 at 12:06 AM

its a new day now so it’ll be someone else turn…that one was a very long drawn out affair.

  • 38 lesh // Apr 27, 2016 at 12:06 AM

Chill out man, life’s too short and energy’s precious.

  • 39 lesh // Apr 27, 2016 at 12:08 AM

    Can’t remember the Four Deasons

  • 40 Bobbybee // Apr 27, 2016 at 12:08 AM

Wonder if we can get it played at half time? I’m sure we’ll let him know he’s loved anyway, although i think he knows that already. Think he’s loving us back. Best way is to stay up and then he’ll honour that contract.

  • 41 SPRINGY // Apr 27, 2016 at 12:09 AM

something similar to what shearer got at his testimonial….black white scarfs twirling, singing, chanting….goosebumps and hair raising all in one.

  • 42 lesh // Apr 27, 2016 at 12:11 AM

    F*kng phone!!

Bobby, Stay’s surely a 4 Seasons type of song.

Have a look for Jackson Browne & David Lindley’s version. They use it as their finale on tours. You’ll find it on Running On Empty.

  • 43 Bobbybee // Apr 27, 2016 at 12:12 AM

Lesh, look at me! I can’t get any chiller man. Told ya marra, i only respond in kind. πŸ™‚

  • 44 SPRINGY // Apr 27, 2016 at 12:13 AM

  • 45 lesh // Apr 27, 2016 at 12:15 AM

Now playing that at SjP’s a great idea. It’s easy to song along too so Maurice Williams and The Toon Army should make the message heard.

Maybe you could ask Jib to organise it – he’s a man many talents and a wealth of influence, I’m sure.

  • 46 Bobbybee // Apr 27, 2016 at 12:15 AM

Lesh, deffo got the four seasons sound and i normally imagine frankie valli banging it out. I just got an idea it may have charted for the wolves so thought people might recognise that version. Been covered by so many different acts over the decades.

  • 47 Bobbybee // Apr 27, 2016 at 12:17 AM

Jib!!!!! You still thete marra? Work ya magic eh? πŸ™‚

  • 48 lesh // Apr 27, 2016 at 12:22 AM

You’ll not Jib easily thus time o night.

There’s the doctors dispute ti sort out and now BHS’s landed in his lap. Work, work, work…..

  • 49 manxpie // Apr 27, 2016 at 12:22 AM

aye springy or a sit in protest at the end of the spurs game and not letting rafa out until he signs a new contract!

  • 50 SPRINGY // Apr 27, 2016 at 12:23 AM

    aye that’ll work!lol

  • 51 Bobbybee // Apr 27, 2016 at 12:25 AM

    Manpixie, banging plan mate lmao!

Lesh, i don’t know what jib does mate. Maybe catch him tomorrow.

  • 52 SPRINGY // Apr 27, 2016 at 12:25 AM

Noo shutyareys and listen – you might even appreciate it. Stay’s the last half of the medley

  • 55 Graeme // Apr 27, 2016 at 12:31 AM

Springy @ 44 – Thanks for that mate – some awesome memories.

  • 56 SPRINGY // Apr 27, 2016 at 12:33 AM

is mitro staying next year?….he’s quick but has passion and strength, but not convinced he can do the lone striker as he lacks the ability to run a full game….thoughts??

  • 57 lesh // Apr 27, 2016 at 12:33 AM

Jib’ll be havin a bit craic with that Jeremy Hunt (Hunt?) before he has a word with Obama – for the third time tis week!

  • 58 SPRINGY // Apr 27, 2016 at 12:34 AM

    nee bother mate…amazing scenes

  • 59 Bobbybee // Apr 27, 2016 at 12:36 AM

Naw, i’m an old soulie and still am. Once a soulie, always one. πŸ™‚ Still go now when I can. So many top mates on that scene. Seems like we’ve been mates forever, which actually ain’t far short. Started going to wigan casino when i was 17. ya make mates from all over the country on that scene, which is still going strong now. Love it. πŸ˜‰

  • 60 lesh // Apr 27, 2016 at 12:38 AM

Springy, that Maurice Willams link was brilliant. Well found – I’d never heard it for years

  • 61 lesh // Apr 27, 2016 at 12:41 AM

Soul was never my bag. I was hooked on the blues in the 60s. Oh, by blues I meant the musical ones not the pills!

  • 62 manxpie // Apr 27, 2016 at 12:43 AM

  • 65 Bobbybee // Apr 27, 2016 at 12:49 AM

Lesh, REALLY? You ain’t shittin me are tou marra? Can’t he persuade Obama too buy ashley out? Does he not know anyone with that clout we can trap in a compromising position and make them buy it? Give the club to the fans. Er, not nust maybe. πŸ™‚

  • 66 SPRINGY // Apr 27, 2016 at 12:51 AM

theres a few vids they could play to the players before they step out on the pitch to get them fighting, believing,we’ve seen them on here before but gets the blood pumping…think its called..for mike ashley…great vid.

  • 67 Bobbybee // Apr 27, 2016 at 12:55 AM

Used to like both types in my mispent youth lesh πŸ™‚ the wigan years will stay with me forever mate. Dancing to banging tunes from 12.30 till eight. The young uns think we don’t know anything about raves and that, but we invented them lmao! πŸ™‚

Right, time to catch up on game of thrones. Read the books and this is just so true to the books it’s uncanny. Later chaps.

  • 68 lesh // Apr 27, 2016 at 12:56 AM

It’s not your bag but this is the ‘Stay’ I was looking for. Saw this set at the Albert Hall – a class gig.

  • 69 lesh // Apr 27, 2016 at 1:00 AM

The players need to be on the pitch earlier than usual – engaged in some quick passing or something to sharpen their concentration.

  • 70 manxpie // Apr 27, 2016 at 1:13 AM

aye springy especially the 5 niller against man u and show em wat it can be like again
bit late now but people going on about arfa and how well he’s doing in ligue shite i mean 1 who’d prefer him to townsend?
    look forward to the answers
townsend work rate in a 30 second spell against liverpool beat arfas whole career here i feel but thought its a valid question?

  • 71 SPRINGY // Apr 27, 2016 at 1:31 AM

talented lad ben arfa just lacked the idea that work was involved….or would of been a world beater

  • 72 SPRINGY // Apr 27, 2016 at 1:33 AM

what an actual kernt he actually is! mind boggling after nearly 10 years he still isn’t any closer infact alot further away from being a decent football club owner!!!

  • 75 manxpie // Apr 27, 2016 at 2:06 AM

oh and especially when he’s been told throughout his time here from many different sources! wat an absolute kernt of the highest order!!!! x 1 billlion!

  • 76 expatmag // Apr 27, 2016 at 4:48 AM

    Bobby Bee

I dont post on here very often but in relation to your discussion regarding Hillsbrough and accusations labelled at Tuff regarding never experiencing crowd crushes before, you might cast your kind back before the fences were put up, the Leazes end in particular experienced several instances of crowd crushes that would certainly have resulted in injuries and deaths if the fences had been in place.

I can instantly remember 2 major instances (I am sure Tuff and others can do).

1969…..Fairs cup semi final v Rangers where the opposition supporters invaded the pitch from the gallowgate end.

1974….FA Cup quarter final v Nottingham Forest…pitch invasion from Leazes end

Both instances would have incurred significant injuries if fences were in place.

By the way, do you think the Fire Brigade in Bradford should be charged with murder for not attending to the stadium fire in time?

It is unfortunate that these things happen but if those fences were not in place, injuries and deaths at Hillsbrough may have been avoided.

On a side issue, I was at Ibrox with my Father s a young boy the day 60 odd people died at a Celtic Rangers game. Fortunately, I was at the other end but it was horrifying to see whst was happening

  • 77 Ron Knee // Apr 27, 2016 at 6:54 AM

‘Stay’ was one of the Hollies’ first hits. That’s the version I’m most familiar with.

And Jib/jeff and I went to the same school. Imagine that!

  • 78 G // Apr 27, 2016 at 7:06 AM

@76, at the end of the match when the gates were open for the fans to exit we used to call it Death Alley, I remember an urban myth that if you fell over in there you would be trampled to death and nobody would be any the wiser until all the fans had left. Used to terrify me coming out of there.

  • 79 magscar // Apr 27, 2016 at 7:37 AM

Used to think if I could lift my legs off ground as crowd surged out I would be carried so far out of ground from the top level of Leazes.

When roof was taken off and used to take my kids went in Gallowgate and hated stairs on way down – used to wait until most of crowd had dispersed for fear of falling under feet there or being crushed if someone stumbled. Happy days πŸ™‚

  • 80 jimmysmith // Apr 27, 2016 at 7:38 AM

    “It’s a special club”

Your darn tooting, it is Harry, and Rafa knows it all too well, because he took his Liverpool and Chelsea sides to St James’ all those times.

He speaks about Liverpool and Newcastle in the same breath and why not? In terms of crowds and stadium we are ahead of them. Players love turning out at St James’. It’s a great fixture for any side.

And so I also think Rafa will stay on regardless, if, of course, he gets the correct assurances.

  • 81 magscar // Apr 27, 2016 at 7:39 AM

Oh and remember Stay – used to like Hollies at time but later preferred Jackson Browne version.

  • 82 Jail for Ashley // Apr 27, 2016 at 7:40 AM

Such a shame that it seems to be a pattern in life that it takes a disaster before disaster prevention controls are put in place, Piper Alpha, Kings Cross fire etc

  • 83 magscar // Apr 27, 2016 at 7:46 AM

It requires money to be spent and cheap way is unfortunately the preferred way until the inevitable happens. Was wondering yesterday if there had ever been a disaster at an American stadium and couldn’t recall one but their design is presumably more crowd satisfaction orientated and inherently safer?

  • 84 Ron Knee // Apr 27, 2016 at 7:46 AM

‘Stay’ was the Hollies’ first top ten hit. Just googled it.

  • 85 Jail for Ashley // Apr 27, 2016 at 7:50 AM

You’d like to think that he’s going to stay judging by some of his comments but it all depends on what Mike Ashley plans to do if we go down. Does he decide to get his money back the conventional way by leaving us in a healthy position and selling us on or does he decide that the advertising has reached it’s potential and it’s time to strip us bare. He could certainly finance a bounce back with Rafa in charge simply by paying inflated advertising via SD, I’d certainly have no problem with having SD on the front of the shirt if it meant Rafa staying along with the players that he wanted to keep.

  • 86 Jail for Ashley // Apr 27, 2016 at 7:54 AM

If Rafa leaves and a second rater is put in charge it has to be obvious to even the most ardent of Mike Ashleys supporters that he plans to hang around until the parachute payments are gone and then strip us to the bone.

  • 87 magscar // Apr 27, 2016 at 8:14 AM

Saw Hollies at City Hall (1967?) Before Graham Nash left and whilst not as crowd pleasing as say Stones and Who they were brilliant live. By then my tastes had become more and more American – Byrds, Dylan Neil Young but have soft spot for them and still love harmonies

  • 88 jimmysmith // Apr 27, 2016 at 8:20 AM

Yes, you get the strong impression that Ashley has had little to no idea how to succeed with Newcastle, even if it had been purely about building a strong competitive side, which of course it hasn’t been, and so we’ve seen one mistake after another. But all of a sudden the right thing to do, appears the most obvious and easiest thing to do. It’s hard to imagine him choosing to do anything else, and so yeah, if he does, I’d expect few if any would be left with any illusions about him.

  • 89 Ron Knee // Apr 27, 2016 at 8:21 AM

I saw them at the City Hall, too. Freddie and the Dreamers were top of the bill! Must have been in 64 or 65.

  • 90 Jib // Apr 27, 2016 at 8:24 AM

I’m just putting this out as my own gut feeling .
I have no evdence to back it up.

I think Ashley and Charnley were actually taken by surprise when Rafa accepted the job.

I think Ashley because of his reliance on his Southern footballing cronies has had it constantly dinned into him by his “advisers” that NUFC would not have the drawing power for a top manager.

That’s why ( Keegan apart ) there has been a constant procession of 2nd and even 3rd , tier managers.

The handling of the McClaren sacking points to the executive being completely wrong-footed when Benitez said he would come.

They must know that this is last chance saloon and compared to throwing away Β£80 million in transfers that Β£5 million a year for Rafa is chickenfeed.

He has to be kept no matter what !

I saw Bob Dylan at the Odeon when some of the crowd booed the electrified 2nd half with Robby Robertson and The Band.
The best at the City Hal was The Animals with Carl Perkins and the Nashville Teens !

Nothing at all with them not wanting a top drawer manager as it would have meant conceding the rigid and ridiculous policies in place before Rafa came in. Just a thought!

Carlo, do you fancy joining the Toon. You’ll have no say on transfers and your squad will be picked by an elderly scout and a…. pay roll clerk. You only have to finish eighth, well that’s just lip service 17th will do and we don’t bother with cups. You won’t really have to worry about team selection as there’s only enough players to field a half decent eleven
You’ll be on the lowest pay unless of course you hit tenth but if that looks even remotely likely we’ll sell a key player in January to stop it happening. Do you need a pen. Here, free with a pair of socks!

    Ron Knee

Wasn’t that package tour as first Band I saw there was the Stones in Oct 66 so was year after possibly including Move? Right mixture of bands back then might have seen one includingHermans Hermits with Jimi Hendrix!

Never got to see Dylan. Presumably that was the tour when he was booed at Manchester and told Robbie to play F’ing louder in response. Seen Nashville Teens but never caught Animals (too young for Club A Gogo).

You’d have thought with 80M about to be spent they’d want a top manager in place but the money spent wasn’t to buy success it was an investment to make money and you don’t need a top manager for that he just had to keep them in the league. Mclaren knew that he wouldn’t be successful but in return he wanted to get his seat on the Hughes, Pulis and Allardyce table. Like I said about disaster prevention it has taken this near disaster for them to act.
