One Change – This Could Be Newcastle’s Best Team For Palace

It seems like only Steven Taylor has come back from injury from last week, and Kevin Mbabu is also fit again, but he was on the bench last week at Liverpool.

So a good question now is what team will Rafa start tomorrow against Crystal Palace, which is basically a must-win game if we are to avoid relegation next month.

georgino wijnaldum -newcastle-norwich_3365623

Gini Wijnaldum – could make a return tomorrow

For the first time in over 100 games as manager Rafa started an unchanged side last week at Anfield and we think he will not do the same thing tomorrow, with maybe Gini Wijnaldum finding his way back into the first team starting line-up.

Whether Gini makes it will depend on how he has been performing in training – including giving 100% every single day.

Here’s the team Rafa could start tomorrow in a 4-1-4-1 formation with Tiote protecting the back four:

Darlow
Anita Mbemba Lascelles Dummett
Tiote
Townsend Colback Sissoko (c) Wijnaldum
Cisse
Subs: Woodman Mbabu Shelvey de Jong Aarons Perez Mitrovic

Wijnaldum could be switched inside for Sissoko to play the number 10 role, although Benitez has had Sissoko playing in the center with some success over the last few games.

It’s a good time for Wijnaldum to put in an all-star performance – it’s a long time since we’ve seen one from him – and maybe he can add to the nine goals he has this season – all of which have come at St. James’ Park.

A good win and a very good performance by Newcastle is what we all want to see tomorrow.

What’s your team for tomorrow?

This will be an interesting game Palace generally tend to sit back and use the wings with rapid pace so we will need wide players willing to track back on both sides

Sissoko might not get that much room to move in the middle and we might not need Colback and Tiote playing unless the Ginger Ninja gets into the box more

If only we had a Townsend quality winger on the other side !!

I don’t think we need two holding midfielders for this game and need to attack from the off. This is it, really, shyt or bust and i’d like to see us really going for it. Not wildly, but more emphasis on attack then defence. Palace, like us, don’t do well coming from behind, although that has certainly altered under Rafa. Get a goal ahead early on and then go for their throat. There’s no point even thinking about anything other than three points. Possibly leaving Gini on the bench has done the biz and we’ll see his earlier form replicated in the run in. HTL!!!

Yeah I would like to see Wijnaldum start as well but not on the wing I think in a forward central role he could be fired up and get an early goal

Lee, it all depends on how he’s done in training i suppose. Let’s be honest, we don’t know that part of the equation, but Rafa does. I’d love to see Gini play, but only if he’s in the right form and frame of mind. I have complete trust in Rafa in this. 😉

Although GD is important I don’t think he will go for an all out attack. However once we go 3-0 up on about 60 mins I expect Karl Darlow to be replaced with Mitro and go all out!

I’ll definitely take another draw for the mackems tomorrow – which is a possibility. They can draw every match for me and go down on an unbeaten run, as long as they go down. It might even be beneficial if Martinez gets the boot before they play the mackems as well!

Gini seemed to be playing his best out on the left earlier in the season, and obviously Sissoko is playing better through the middle at the moment. Seems a no brainer

I’ve gone 3-0 on my SS so i’ll be happy if we stop there. 🙂 That said, i won’t shed a tear if a fourth goal goes in. Come on Newcastle!!!!

    Here’s my squad:

    ———————Darlow
    Anita — Mbemba — Lascelles — Dummett
    ———————–Tiote
    Townsend—Sissoko–Wijnaldum—Aarons
    ———————Mitrovic

Cisse could start, but I honestly can’t stand his inability to control the ball. I think with Tiote protecting the back four, we will be fine to have both Sissoko and Gini starting in the middle and being prepared to burst forward with Townsend and Aarons being more than capable of supplying crosses for Mitro/Gini/Socks/other winger to come on to. Aarons played at LB a few times earlier this season, and although he looked out of his depth, will have learned the importance of protecting the LB and should be more useful defensively as a winger than he was in the past. It would be a fun lineup with SDJ/Cisse/Perez to come on when/if necessary.

    Bobbybee –

In the alternate reality in which I manager Newcastle, that’s who I’d send out. I think Rafa will probably opt for Cisse and could go with Ed’s lineup. The LW spot is really up for grabs, depending on who has been showing up in training so it’s anyone’s guess who will slot in there.

Not sure what Palaces other two games are but they could technically be relegated if we beat them 6-0 and Villa 4-0 while they lose all three of theirs. Hopefully they’d be saved by the mackems only getting four points though.

Madison, i think you’re right with your pick tbh. It’s an exciting line up yet retains the balance. Aarons must have been showing in training to get that cameo, after Rafa said he wanted to rely on experience in the run in. If he went with your pick i would be more than happy, but I’ll also be happy with whoever he picks because he sees what we don’t. Get yourself to the New York teams and see if you can get a job! 🙂

It won’t leave me any more deflated if the worse comes to the worse coz i’ll be crushed either way. Cup half full and all that… 😉

Ayay, Bobby, I agree that Benitez is likely to go a bit further afield from mine but I’ll still be happy no matter what. He will certainly have a better finger on the pulse of the squad and he’s shown so far that he can get them playing the right way and that he can pick lineups that will start to do what he wants. This is a game that should be a win, but you never know with football. Looking forward to it.

You know, we really should count our blessings to be where we’ve been these last years. Apparently it could get a lot worse. I can’t help but feel for those poor Arsenal fans who’ve had to put up with finishing in the top four for twenty seasons. Imagine, not winning the league for 12 whole years? Not sure we could put up with that sort of constant failure. 😉 Poor little mites.

This time tomorrow we’ll have a much clearer picture which way things are going. I have a feeling that Pardew harbours some resentment towards us as fans. He was never really accepted here and as someone pointed out his name was never sung with any conviction.
If he sets up to defend and catch us on the break, the longer we go without scoring will create massive tension . I hope there are none of those quiet spells with groans when we give it away as this will transmit to the pitch and affect the team.

Betty, it will be tense and past experience tells us that sections of the crowd will get on the teams back if anything goes wrong, but the vast majority will be there because they still believe and even if we go a goal down, the crowd will respond. This is a must win game and i expect proper backing from the Toon Army. I’ve been growing my fingernails especially for the game? 😉

Bobby…….. Tomorrow it needs to be rocking from start to finish. Creating tension inhibits skilful football. We’ve witnessed it enough times. If we score first though the atmosphere will be enough to get us over the line.

Bill, it would take a monumental change in gd for us to send them down and as we’ve only managed a four goal difference once, when we put six past norwich, but still conceded two. It would be wonderful if it happened, but i think concentrating on our three way battle is more than enough to deal with atm. 😉

Defeats for Sland and Norwich and a win for us would be a good start. Anything else would be a real kick in the teeth.

Betty, i can see the ground banging from start to finish marra, but we know thete are those never happy amongst us. An old bloke started to sit near us for a while and he never stopped whining. He had the voice for it as well, proper nasally. If we scored three, we were garbage for not scoring four in his eyes. No player could do right for doing wrong. Eventually i had a word with his son and asked him to get tickets elsewhere in the ground, because he was really spoiling it for myself and those around me. Thankfully he hasn’t returned. 😉
