Newcastle Have Already Started Their Huge Summer Clear Out

7:22 pm, Sunday, May 1st, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 108 Comments

There was news just before the game yesterday in the Chronicle that Newcastle have already started their clear-out for the summer when a number of players will leave the club whether or not we are relegated.

Two of the players whose contracts end in June – Sylvain Marveaux and Gabby Obertan – are said to have already left the club.

We suppose their contracts have been paid up through the end of June, but exactly why they are being allowed to leave now we have no idea – unless they are injured and cannot participate in training for the next two weeks.

gabby obertan soutmaton first game

Gabby Obertan – signed from Manchester United

Marveaux was signed as a free agent in June of 2011 from Rennes, but he has not been a success and played only 57 times with two goals during those five years, one of which was on loan to Guingamp.

Gabby was a slightly better buy and played 69 times with three goals in the five years he was on Tyneside.

The success of players like Andros Townsend, Jamaal Lascelles and Karl Darlow have shown the risk of buying English (British) players is much reduced from Graham Carr bringing in untested players from the continent and particularly from France.

Other players whose contracts run out in June and will not be renewed include Steven Taylor, Sammy Ameobi and Haris Vuckic.

And players who are also almost certain to leave in the summer are Fabricio Coloccini, Manu Riviere, Yoan Gouffran and loanee striker Seydou Doumbia

Remy Cabella is expected to join Marseille for around £6M and we could also possibly allow Papiss Cisse and Cheick Tiote to leave.

But the form of those last two is such that Newcastle may want to keep them at the club for the last year of their contracts. especially if Rafa Benitez is still with us as manager for next season.

If we are relegated expect Moussa Sissoko, Gini Wijnaldum and Daryl Janmaat to want to leave the club.

Comments welcome.

I think we should have kept McCarvew because who woould have replaced them!

In response to your comment previous thread, Rafa knows a dud when he see’s one I have a one word reply, ‘Taylor’?

As for Marveaux and Obertan, I think we’d have to get a decent run of games under a good manager to see how good they might actually be before consigning them to the scrap heap.

  • 3 welshgeordie9 // May 1, 2016 at 7:42 PM

    That’s easy, Joe Kinnear.

  • 4 toon22 // May 1, 2016 at 7:45 PM

Wonder who will be in the next batch or French rejects Carr “finds” supose it will be down to the usual agency and most likley a brown envelope stuffed with cash.
If Rafa does nothing else but find a decent back room setup he will have been the best manager since SBR

  • 5 beermonkey // May 1, 2016 at 7:53 PM

had a quick scan on some of rafa’s buys
looks like he got shot of them when he knew they were no good

obatan and marveax have had the best part of 25mill in wages over the last 5 years because no1 could or was bothered to offload them

  • 6 Jail for Ashley // May 1, 2016 at 8:02 PM

Taylor is not really a dud but unfortunately past it, he must have done something in training for Rafa to pick him.

  • 7 YoungMagpieFromBurnley // May 1, 2016 at 8:05 PM

Really want us to stay up, what a shambles it would be if we go down. Lose Rafa and the potential we would have had with him.

The only good thing would be to see players like Janmaat and Sissoko leave because there heart was never here in the first place. Same with Wijnaldum it seems.

Townsend has put all three to the sword, even when he’s having a bad game he never hides, his work rate is unbelievable and the passion he is showing for our club is outstanding. If we stay up it is purely down to Rafa, Lascelles, Elliot, Darlow and Townsend. With help coming from the injuries to Coloccini and ‘Janmaat’ and the captaincy being given to Sissoko.

Lascelles is really looking like the real deal and I doubt he will be going anywhere soon, even if we are relegated.

Perez has also really disappointed me this season, maybe he believes in his own hype. Hope he comes through this stronger.

  • 8 ToonTiger // May 1, 2016 at 8:15 PM

I fully expect the following departures
Saylor, Coloccini, Cabella, Thauvin, Tiote, Cisse regardless. Sissoko and Janmaat if we go down or if a big enough offer came in. I’d even say Krul isn’t guaranteed to stay.

I think the new squad will be rebuilt around whatever is left. I hope whatever happens Rafa stays – the manager we should’ve had.

  • 9 Essex Geordie Bill // May 1, 2016 at 8:16 PM

As I previously said, don’t be surprised if someone doesn’t put in a big bid for Lascelles even if we don’t go down.

I can just see the £ sign flashing up in MAs eyes.

It would be a real road to Damascus moment if he didn’t try to cash in.

  • 10 Essex Geordie Bill // May 1, 2016 at 8:24 PM

It probably sounds like I really hate Taylor from my posts, I don’t.
As a younger fitter man he wasn’t a bad player even getting to the fringe of England selection.
But injuries and time have made him slower and not able to keep up with the modern game and playing him now is costing us points, just my opinion though.

  • 11 YoungMagpieFromBurnley // May 1, 2016 at 8:25 PM

I doubt a big offer will come in for him, he hasn’t played enough games to be a worthy risk. He obviously has the potential but he needs to show more. Il be gutted if we lose him like, he has been the centre half that we have been needing for a while. Athletic, strong and quick, Mbemba is also a great partner for him. I can’t help but think that Coloccini is the reason he looks so improved, maybe he’s coaching him behind the scenes knowing that his time is up.

  • 12 YoungMagpieFromBurnley // May 1, 2016 at 8:31 PM

I like how it didn’t take Rafa long to realise our best defence, rumour has It Mcclaren is still looking… Lol.

  • 13 lesh // May 1, 2016 at 8:33 PM

Taylor must’ve had something to be picked?

Yup, he survived a collision with one of the training dummies which had to be taken away for repair!

  • 14 bettyswallocks // May 1, 2016 at 8:35 PM

As has been pointed out before Colo and Taylor were our centre backs when we went down. The fact they’re still here is a joke. Mbemba and Lascelles would get a game in many PL sides. Would the other two has beens?

  • 15 clinath@ed // May 1, 2016 at 8:35 PM

Surely MA has realised, there is more money to be made by being successful in the EPL than wheeling and dealing his players?

  • 16 beermonkey // May 1, 2016 at 8:37 PM

when hogson bought smalling from maidstone he was only at fullham a season and man u bought him in the jan and he stayed till the end of that season
from maidstone to fullham to man u in a season
he hadnt played to the level lashelles has and was unknown i think and man u stumped up 10mill for him

lashelles was widely tipped to be a top centre back and there were alot of good clubs chasing him when we bought him city chelsea i think to name 2
he has also trained with the full england as hogson was looking to fast track him and other players

i can see some bids to test the water 10-12 mill and see what happens

  • 17 YoungMagpieFromBurnley // May 1, 2016 at 8:38 PM

    Betty, Taylor wouldn’t.

Coloccini would get in the promoted sides teams.

  • 18 JamesToon // May 1, 2016 at 8:39 PM

    If we stay up:

    1. get rid of charnley and Carr and let Rafa control transfers and bring in his own scouting team

    2. Get rid of Janmaat, Taylor, Coloccini Haidara, Saivet, Gouffran, Thauvin, Sissoko, Cisse, Riviere and Doumbia.

    3. Bring in more characters, leaders, grafters. Players who could be available that we should defo snap up: Cahill, Jenkinson, Gibbs, Carrick, Redmond, Defoe/Andre Gray

Just let Rafa do his thing, Mike.

  • 19 bettyswallocks // May 1, 2016 at 8:39 PM

Lesh……. He must have had something to get picked? The mind boggles.

  • 20 Essex Geordie Bill // May 1, 2016 at 8:40 PM

£25m, blimey makes your eyes water.

Can’t blame them though, when they were actually fit it didn’t look as though any of the incumbent managers of the time wanted to play them, Marveuax at any rate. I think Gabby would have had a good run in the team if he didn’t keep getting crocked.
Would still like to see what Rafa could do with them but as Ed said they are probably waiting for the taxi.

  • 21 AncientC // May 1, 2016 at 8:40 PM

Sammy & Vuckic still have another year left on their contracts.

Perez is the player I would most like to see moved on if a good offer came in. Perez’s tempo, urgency, and drive isn’t exactly cutting edge, and personally I have doubts over how much he will improve. He really needs to be playing as a striker, and considering we only play with 1 upfront, that leaves his chances of playing his preferred role very limited.

If the club were to receive around 12 million for Perez, it could be money well spent on a player with a defined position. Keeping Perez and using him on the left flank just isn’t efficient.

  • 22 YoungMagpieFromBurnley // May 1, 2016 at 8:41 PM

Beer, thanks for the update, very interesting in smalling’s case. Maybe there will be some bids coming our way then. Why does he look so improved and established now then earlier on in the season? I feel like maybe he just needed a run in the first team but still he has improved massively since his red card game.

  • 23 beermonkey // May 1, 2016 at 8:43 PM

its an ilogical way to run a club the way we do it

if we are succesfull on the pitch u get more money for finishing higher your players look better and are worth more
    thats the logical way

  • 24 Jail for Ashley // May 1, 2016 at 8:44 PM

I’ve been saying for a while now that he should be moved on, I prefered Willo over him. 14 games a season simply isn’t enough return for a player whether or not his pay is performance related.

  • 25 JamesToon // May 1, 2016 at 8:45 PM

Really can’t make my mind up about Gini and Perez, if we stay up I think Rafa will keep Gini and play him as a number 10, and he always seems to like a striker that will run the channels like Torres did at Liverpool, that’s what I feel Perez could become, he’s not quick or direct enough to be a winger, he’s tricky but he’s very lightweight.

  • 26 bettyswallocks // May 1, 2016 at 8:46 PM

Rob……. If I agreed with you we’d both be wrong.

  • 27 beermonkey // May 1, 2016 at 8:46 PM

rafa has us more compact and we move as 2 banks of 4
with tiote sitting there is a bit more cover
so the defence is less exposed
and i think just overall the players are trying now

  • 28 JamesToon // May 1, 2016 at 8:48 PM

Lascelles has to be our first choice CB next season regardless of whether we stay up. Mbemba has got all the attributes to be the perfect partner for him (like a Ferdinand/Vidic partnership) but he’s looked quite shaky and lacks a bit of bottle. Dummett should defo be converted to a CB, and a new left back and right back with better pace and work rate than janmaat and Dummett needs to come in, that’s why I’d bring in Arsenal duo Jenkinson and Gibbs, even if they are a bit injury prone, they are a huge upgrade on what we have. Janmaat’s defensive work rate is awful

  • 29 bettyswallocks // May 1, 2016 at 8:49 PM

Ancient…… Agree about Perez. Not prolific enough as a striker and not fast enough as a winger. Good utility player though. Not a keeper imo if we intend to improve.

  • 30 JamesToon // May 1, 2016 at 8:49 PM

Cahill could be available as well this summer would love him. Carrick born and bred Geordie could do a job for a free. And either Redmond or possibly Walcott/Chamberlain if available

We need more domestic players as the likes of Darlow/Jamaal/Townsend have proved that they are more reliable signings

  • 31 YoungMagpieFromBurnley // May 1, 2016 at 8:50 PM

    Then don’t agree.

Beer, perhaps, I still feel like when he’s on 1 on 1’s he is much more composed then before. I’m pretty sure he was trying earlier on in the season so that he could get into the team.

  • 32 JamesToon // May 1, 2016 at 8:50 PM

Everyone reckon Tiote is certain to leave in the summer? We need someone in the same mould of him to replace him but will consistently turn up every week

  • 33 beermonkey // May 1, 2016 at 8:52 PM

obatan marveax taylor all sick notes and not worht the wages
marveax with his injury he had before we got him should never have been given a 5 year deal

i dont mind the club taking a punt but these 5 year deals are crippling the club as we are lumbered with them
i dont mind the fact we have a wage limit and budgets but when we cripple ourselves through our own stupidity it really annoys me

  • 34 beermonkey // May 1, 2016 at 8:59 PM

i think after cabs left i think pards was getting him to do what cabs did and he couldnt do it he isnt the all rounder he is what he is
i think maybe rafa has come in and just told him to go back to hat he does best

why on earth do we want 2 injury prone players from arsenal they might be better but its no good if there in the treatment room
we need players that are fit for 30 games a season not 10 we only have a certain amount to spend why waste it on unfit players

  • 35 Jail for Ashley // May 1, 2016 at 9:01 PM

    Lets presume we stay up.
The players I think should go are:
Colo, Jaanmat and Sissoko, any player who has had himself deliberately sent off does not deserve to wear the shirt of any club. Taylor as he’s injury prone and not good enough anymore. Cisse as he’s not done enough for another contract. Haidara, not good enough even for a back up. Tim Krul, we can’t afford or keep happy three top keepers and Darlow looks like a new hero added to the fact Krul is to ingrained with the Ashley losing mentality and could still maybe fetch 5M. SDJ, who? Gouffran, bought as a stop gap and Leon Best was better. Thauvkn and Cabella, are they actually Newcastle’s players?

  • 36 YoungMagpieFromBurnley // May 1, 2016 at 9:05 PM

Beer, sorry you’ve lost me. What player are you talking about?

  • 37 beermonkey // May 1, 2016 at 9:05 PM

  • 38 beermonkey // May 1, 2016 at 9:06 PM

  • 39 JamesToon // May 1, 2016 at 9:07 PM

    Beer monkey

Who would you suggest as alternatives? They are english and massive improvements on what we have even if they do get injured, it’s like saying you wouldn’t have Sturridge but when he’s fit he’s such a deadly goal scorer. I’ve had enough of this foreign so called “Carr gems” who played well in the French or Dutch league but haven’t got the fight or passion for the prem. Only domestic alternatives i can think of are Iorfa from Wolves and Daniels from Bournemouth

  • 40 bettyswallocks // May 1, 2016 at 9:07 PM

Rob….. If you have the capacity to learn from your mistakes you’ll learn a lot today.

  • 41 JamesToon // May 1, 2016 at 9:08 PM

Hopefully Rafa will bring his own scouting team in the summer then we can leave all this fantasy crap to him!

  • 42 JamesToon // May 1, 2016 at 9:09 PM

Simon Francis also a good shout instead of cahill

  • 43 jimmysmith // May 1, 2016 at 9:11 PM

If we stay up, I think we”ll buy a top notch CB to add to Mbemba, Lascelles, Dummet and Mbabu, and a top left back, with Haidarra to deputise and Dummet acting as third choice cover,. Janmaat on the other side, with Anita to deputise and Mbabu further cover. Taylor and Colo to go the way of Willo.

Cisse I think will go too. He isn’t the twenty goal striker all clubs want, and neither is Mitrovic, although the way Mtrovich puts himself about and wins the ball means doesn’t need to be. But we need more goals.

Other good players under threat include Colback, Anita and Tiote, simply because none of them would likely be consistently part of a side with top eight aspirations, which you’d expect Rafa to have.

Gouffran to move on. Rivierre will prove hard, even impossible to shift, and Thauvin given another chance.

I expect 5 real quality additions in the right positions.

  • 44 YoungMagpieFromBurnley // May 1, 2016 at 9:11 PM

Beer, oh, the whole time I’ve been talking about Lascelles haha. Whoops!!

Betty, not quite sure what you’re getting at but yes, that’s why we make mistakes right? If we don’t learn from them you can never move forward or know how to deal with it if it comes up again.

  • 45 bettyswallocks // May 1, 2016 at 9:13 PM

Rob……. Your conscience must be clean. You’ve never used it!

  • 46 Munster Mag // May 1, 2016 at 9:13 PM

Jail, i think it might be better to ask who is worth keeping! 🙂 Probably about 5 players! Essex, have you had a few tonite mate! Marveaux is a lightweight ponse and Obertan is brainless. One of the reasons I put in a spoke or two for Pardew was because some guys slated him for not playing a softie like Marveaux. I woukd still keep Krul, mbemba , Lascelles, Townsend, anita, dummett ( especially if we go down) , Mitrovic, Perez, Darlow ( although yesterday could be a flash in the pan, but i think he’s ok ) and er….is that it , apart from Arma and kids? Also sack the entire management team underneath Rafa and the foreign guys , and Carr and Chumley. Not much left !

  • 47 beermonkey // May 1, 2016 at 9:14 PM

to be honest cant think of any1 off hand

we have budgets we cant afford to waste money on sick note players that cant play whats the point
they might be better but if there injured there no good to us, its not like we will have decent back up

liverpool can afford him i also bet now klopp is here he will be injured alot less

  • 48 Jail for Ashley // May 1, 2016 at 9:15 PM

It probably would, 😀 But I was trying to be realistic. Who said illogical way to run a club. I honestly think that someone in the think tank has come up with the idea of “nobody has ran a club so illogically and stupidly in the past lets give it a go, it worked for SD”

  • 49 YoungMagpieFromBurnley // May 1, 2016 at 9:21 PM

Treating me like you treat the Welsh here betty, what you biting for anyway?

  • 50 jimmysmith // May 1, 2016 at 9:22 PM

Rafa will of course get far more out of the squad than McC could. We do have some good players. Far better than our league position suggests. I’m sure this is a large part of why Rafa took it on, and I think he is probably a little surprised the resurgence didn’t come a game or two earlier.

  • 51 Jail for Ashley // May 1, 2016 at 9:23 PM

Rotonda and catchy in their clamour to slate Pardew were going mad that Marveaux was not given a chance, I remember a game shown live against Spurs at WH where he was given about 25 mins, he didn’t actually touch the ball. tads (toon army down south) one of our regular posters who was at the game reckons he was even worse off the ball. This guy has apparently had 15M in wages since signing!

  • 57 Essex Geordie Bill // May 1, 2016 at 9:34 PM

Munster, not yet but it sounds like a good idea. 🙂

The point I’m making is that on some of the few occasions Marveaux has played he’s looked OK. The last time Obertan came back he was very good even voted MOM in at least one game.

I don’t want to get into a drawn out argument over their respective merits but I see them as symptomatic as some of the thinking over many players, not just at our club, where some players just don’t get the chance to show their worth.

    Hope that makes sense.

  • 63 Mister Tuff // May 1, 2016 at 9:43 PM

Been out all day just recently got back.
Rafa -signings – the whole idea of looking at this after Jib brought up the subject was to highlight that as far as Liverpool transfers are concerned we really do not know who did what and therefore cannot attribute anything detrimental or indeed positive about the transfers at Liverpool to anyone.
How this then becomes a suggested “no go area” and questioning Rafas ability as a manager.
Wow folk sometimes see things that are not really there.
Nothing is the matter with having more information about anything -this leads to everybody having further knowledge and therfore able to make decisions/opinions which are more informed.

  • 64 Hail Wor Ashley // May 1, 2016 at 9:44 PM

Surprised Marveaux made that many appearances, can remember a run of about 10-15 games where he either started or came on as sub in the Europa season, did quite well too and only came 2nd to Cabaye in assists that year, but aside from that… where’s the other 40 appearances come from? Dreadful return.

OK, let’s get carried away for moment, even though I cautioned against it earlier. If we stay up:

Colo – San Lorenzo able to stump up £1m or so? Would we mutually release him if not? Either way he’s at the core of the rot and needs to be removed.

Haidara – £2m – French clubs will probably be interested as he’s still relatively young. Though his major injury probs will mean a low fee.

Janmaat – £8m – Cracked under pressure and seems to be a bit of loose cannon, despite that he’s still a Dutch international, fairly young and has ability, just needs to move on from here.

Tiote – £5m – might stay, seems to have turned a corner recently

Saivet – £3-5m – Possibly Cabella/Thauvin situation, doesn’t appear to be in Rafa’s plans, unless he’s just been told to sit tight and wait ’til next season, due to his inexperience in the PL.

SDJ – £5m – still think we could get a decent fee for him given his reputation, might end up back at Ajax, just can’t see him fitting in to this high energy style Rafa seemingly wants to play.

Gouffran – £1-2m – another back to France

    Thauvin – £7-8m – that’s if Marseille want him.

Cisse – £5m – likely on his way for a big pay-day and we need a major upgrade anyway.

Riviere – ??? – Another failed Frenchman that hopefully somebody will take off our hands for a couple of million given his decent record before coming to us.

Approximately £40m there, add another £10-20m of next seasons cash to be used in advance and you’ve got a fair amount for Rafa to begin a rebuild.

Not a bad list to be fair mate. It would be a great summer if all of these deals actually go through. The deadwood would be clear and we would be able to move on with a great coach. The chances are slim but hey, in Rafa we trust.

  • 72 Mister Tuff // May 1, 2016 at 9:54 PM

    Off topic.
One thing I did not know was that Thauvin was voted Young Player of the Year in France in 2013.
There are some illustrious names in that group over the years -I think all really hit the big time.
Still wonder why he didn’t really make it at SJP – with his potential pedigree. A strange one.

  • 73 YoungMagpieFromBurnley // May 1, 2016 at 9:56 PM

Because like Cabella, he’s too lightweight. He has the ability but not the heart for our unrelenting league. It’s a shame because he was our only legitimate left midfielder and he could have added balance however when things didn’t go for him he didn’t fight for it. He clearly couldn’t wait to get away in January so I feel like he didn’t really want to be here in the first place.

  • 74 Jail for Ashley // May 1, 2016 at 9:57 PM

That was a game where his commitment and effirt had been questioned and this was time to prove himself and get his way back into the team, he basically stuck his fingers up and said “I’m on 50K a week anyway, what does it matter”. Another player whose character had been thoroughly researched!

Could it be something to do with the Hoofball approach to many of our games?

  • 76 YoungMagpieFromBurnley // May 1, 2016 at 9:58 PM

What happened to tads anyway? Did he find a life?

  • 77 Jail for Ashley // May 1, 2016 at 9:58 PM

I don’t know, just taking each game as it comes.

  • 78 beermonkey // May 1, 2016 at 10:01 PM

    thauvin made 12 appearences
my opinion on it is mclaren didnt want him prob wanted townsend and wasnt gonna give him a chance

  • 79 Essex Geordie Bill // May 1, 2016 at 10:01 PM

We are possibly going back to players response (not just Marv) to the attitude of the management over the past few seasons.

  • 80 martoon // May 1, 2016 at 10:02 PM

Evening gents – I generally agree with most of your suggestions for players to move out. However with the transfer window system it’s pretty difficult to make wholesale changes in one window – it may take several windows to rebuild the team!

  • 81 Hail Wor Ashley // May 1, 2016 at 10:03 PM

Get back to harping on about Ashley like a jilted wife to be that just can’t get over the rejection, football not your forte.

  • 82 Jail for Ashley // May 1, 2016 at 10:04 PM

    I hear you.

  • 83 bettyswallocks // May 1, 2016 at 10:05 PM

Betting odds have Mackems slight favourites to stay up ahead of us, very little in it though considering we were log odds on a few weeks ago. Norwich are now massive odds on to go.
No point being pessimistic at this stage. It probably wouldn’t work anyway.

  • 84 Belfast // May 1, 2016 at 10:12 PM

Did this exclusive come from Lee Ryder? Why would you pay somebody’s contract up when it runs out in a few weeks?

They’re obviously still under contract but have been told they won’t be involved so don’t waste yer time turning up.

  • 85 jimmysmith // May 1, 2016 at 10:17 PM

Janmaat is a good player. He won’t want to leave should Rafa stay, and will up his attitude to be a part of it. His problem is his defensive shortcomings, mostly the result of poor decision making, but I’m sure he recognises if he plays to instruction, his career can thrive at Newcastle under Benitez. Given he isn’t a dope, of course.

  • 86 Mister Tuff // May 1, 2016 at 10:19 PM

Thauvin – still surprised when you see who is on the list and that they are voted for by their peers.
He may come good or play better in the future -back in France.
The odds should have probably indicated he would be a success – but clearly not in this case in the EPL.

Just watched Sky News – that bloody Fellani elbowing Huth in the mug then what appeared to be a forearm smash – missed by the ref. What a thug – lots of previous for elbowing.
Big ban coming up this week from the FA I suspect.

  • 87 clinath@ed // May 1, 2016 at 10:26 PM

Beer monkey…the idea of continually selling our assets, when their price maxes out is not sustainable….the teams success rate, so earning potential, is directly related to how well those assets are performing.
Selling them and replacing with inferior products, results in a downward spiral of failure.

  • 88 bettyswallocks // May 1, 2016 at 10:26 PM

Seems strange that Rob has bone quiet since Belfast entered the building.

  • 89 beermonkey // May 1, 2016 at 10:28 PM

janmatt maybe a bit of a dope

when rafa was talking about anita at fullback he praised his intelligence of knowing when to go forward and when to stick

janmaat at the age of 26 should have learnt that by know

  • 90 YoungMagpieFromBurnley // May 1, 2016 at 10:33 PM

Lol, don’t know what you’re insinuating there betty darling.

  • 91 beermonkey // May 1, 2016 at 10:35 PM

u dont have to sell them
overall ur making more money and players are more likely wanting to stay

  • 92 bettyswallocks // May 1, 2016 at 10:37 PM

Jimmy…….Defenders are there to defend first and foremost. Janmaat prefers to bomb forward but Anita has put in more telling crosses in the last few games than Janmaat has all season. He thinks he’s a lot better than he is.

  • 93 Munster Mag // May 1, 2016 at 10:40 PM

Jail, spot on re Catchy and Rotunda. TBF, they were blaming the rain on tyneside on Pardew. Essex, Marv was just another example of Carr having the horn for nimble lightweight french blokes.

  • 94 clinath@ed // May 1, 2016 at 10:44 PM

Sorry beermonley, misread your post as logical not illogical. We appear to agree.

  • 95 Toon Tang // May 1, 2016 at 10:45 PM

Memphis there on MOTD just summed up whats wrong with the modern day footballer.

    Absolute fanny flap

  • 96 Belfast // May 1, 2016 at 10:47 PM

I seen a few more recent photographs of Vollans a few weeks ago. He’s put on a few more pounds and has grown a fringe.

He still looks very handsome though…

  • 97 beermonkey // May 1, 2016 at 10:47 PM

    people agreeing on here
easy calm down we cant be having that on here

    ok question to all

can anita nail down a rb spot next season

  • 98 Toon Tang // May 1, 2016 at 10:47 PM

So we’re looking for that spuds defeat now tomorrow night eh

  • 99 Toon Tang // May 1, 2016 at 10:48 PM

Cant go into that last game with them chumps needing a win to maybe win the title.

  • 100 bettyswallocks // May 1, 2016 at 10:54 PM

Belfast…… That was to try and put the troll catcher general off the scent.

  • 101 Lee Charnley Bunga Party // May 1, 2016 at 10:55 PM

Is Anita going to be fit for next week?

I would rather play Mbabu at right back if thats the case as he has been fit for a few weeks has pace and is willing to defend

Putting Janmaat straight in when he has not played in near enough a month and obviously was starting to give up might not be such a good idea

  • 102 bettyswallocks // May 1, 2016 at 10:56 PM

Beer…….. Anita is totally committed, he’ll do for me.

  • 103 Laurent Robert 32 // May 1, 2016 at 10:57 PM

Munster, Marveaux’s assists kept us in the league – do not forget that. Saving the mug Pardew’s incompetency once more.

  • 104 Our Toon // May 1, 2016 at 10:58 PM

We are looking for a spurs point tomorrow, we want them to have 2nd spot guaranteed for when we play them.

It’s amazing what these bunch of no hope players can do with a proper manager at the helm, I feel it might be a little late though.

On Thauvin, he barely had a kick in England and was playing in a new country under a useless manager, it takes time for players to settle. Was he truly given a fair shot? Much like Laschelles who most thought and me included as useless. Players new to a league and team need to time to gel and find their feet, under McClaren it was the same old shite though.

Under Rafa we truly have seen a resurrection of players like Tiote and Anita, townsend has been different class but the likes of Janmaat and Shelvey are a reminder of the utter dross we have. Wasn’t long ago most voted for Janmaat as captain, arguably the worst RB in the league who has no fight in him at all.

A good decision Rafa has made though is putting sissoko in the no10 role, much better there than out on the wing

  • 105 beermonkey // May 1, 2016 at 11:02 PM

not sure what he was bought off for
i thought some1 posted it was a dead leg something like that but i am not sure and nothing has been said
i assume he will be fit

but i would rather mbabu come in for him
    is janmaat even fit

  • 106 Laurent Robert 32 // May 1, 2016 at 11:05 PM

Our Toon, amazing what a proper manager can achieve. Not everyone realises this.

  • 107 beermonkey // May 1, 2016 at 11:05 PM

i see townsend got 2 nominations for goal of the month on motd2

playing for ur country should be a form thing
walcott sterling or townsend who do we think hogson will take to france

  • 108 Sir Braveheart // May 1, 2016 at 11:13 PM

Win at Villa, Sunderland lose to Chelsea, Norwich lose to Man Utd and we’re 4 points clear. That will be enough to do it for us.

I rather suspect that Sunderland will draw and Norwich will win. We’ll need a win against Villa and a draw from Spurs.

    It’s so so tight…
