Newcastle Veteran Attracting Interest From Chinese League

There´s a report in the Mirror today that Newcastle’s Papiss Cisse is a target of a number of Chinese clubs and his good form in the Newcastle run-in to the season will be helping a lot to showcase his talents.

Papiss seems dedicated to the Newcastle cause along with Ivory Coast International Cheick Tiote – and both could depart this summer and ply their trade in China.

Cheick was close to a move in January but it didn´t come off and now he is also playing very well for the Newcastle first team and Rafa Benitez has ben able to quickly get the best out of the two Newcastle veterans.

Papiss Cisse – interest from China

The report is that clubs are willing to offer £6M for the Senegal striker and that much for a 30 year-old could be attractive to Newcastle.

But it will depend on a few things whether Newcastle will let Papiss leave in the summer.

If Rafa Benitez is still at the club he may want both Papiss and Cheick to stay on for the last year of their contracts to provide some experience and continuity to the side.

If we are relegated and Rafa leaves us then they could also provide some real skill and experience down below in the Championship and help us come straight back up into the Premier League next May.

So it really depends on what happens in our last two games of the season whether Newcastle will allow Papiss Cisse and Cheick Tiote to leave the club.

If Rafa is here it will be his decision and if it´s not Rafa then whoever is the new manager should decide what happens to the two of them.

It cannot be left to Chief Scout Graham Carr or Managing Director Lee Charnley.

It´s their poor decision making (or the absence of tough decisions when they have been needed) that has caused much of the mess the club is in at the moment.

What do you think?

Bambams from two threads ago the previous thread,

You said something which made me think, which is dangerous as my thoughts will almost certainly get me shot to pieces, but anyhow here I go……..

Why sack Penfold, seriously you have not misread those three words as I did actually say them, or right them as the case may be, we all know his image and his standing amongst the majority of fans, and it may be duly deserved, but then again if you look at prior to Penfold we had JFK and before him it was Dracula, what was the club then, a cash cow for Ashley without any hoipe what-so-ever, can we say that now, I don’t think we can due to the fact that since Penfold took over Ashley has for the first time spent some money, granted Penfold allowed the wrong man in Graham Carr to spend it but it is quite possible that Penfold has realised the owner’s and his own limitations and has realised what we all knew, that being that Carr was a tosser so he has acted and is prepared to hand all footballing matters over to Rafa who is obviously a very good and knowledgeable manager, we now have a good manager and an owner who will spend, hopefully Penfold hasn’t left it too late when replacing SM, but if we do survive and keep Rafa which is what both club and fans seem too want then surely we have to take our hats off to Penfold, it is quite possible that he has played a major role in transforming our club into the type of club that we long for.

Can’t fully agree on Cisse though Ed. he’s shown a few glimpses but not enough to guarantee him a place in any decent team. It’s just we have little else to put ahead of him. Tiote is a different matter. He was way out of it until Rafa arrived, but has been a key man since!

His good form sorry but I disagree he gives the ball away as his first touch is non existent his passing is shocking and he still does not know the offside rule I have no idea why Benitez keeps starting him ahead of mitrovic who offers a lot more. For 6 million we should rip there hands off.

Very rarely if ever see me defending Mclaren as I can’t stand him. But to be fair on his not selecting Lascelles, even Rafa chose Taylor ahead if him at first.

Cissé was jabbering away in French at Cabaye as he was placing the ball for the pen , then Dean shooed him away, I’d love to know what was said.

Cisse chases lost causes and tries to defend from the front, that has always been Rafa’s preferred type of striker, I fear for Mitro if Rafa does stay as he isn’t really in the Rafa mould, but I would and do hope that if Rafa stays then so will Mitro as an alternative but even though Cisse may be his preferred striker at present I would expect Cisse to be moved on as I am sure Rafa would insist on a Cisse upgrade, he may be the right type for Rafa, but is he good enough, I don’t think he is.

Besides the obvious candidates, I think any of Dummet, Tiote, Colback, Anita, Krul/Elliot, Haidarra, Saivet, Thauvin and Cisse could be moved on, if we stay up. I’d expect at least half to go if serious offers come in.

Rafa likes to keep it compact, he likes defenders who can defend, Dummett will not be going anywhere but Haidara and Janmaat whether they want it or not will be shifted as they cannot defend, as will Colo and the now past it Taylor, but Jetro Willems will not come if Rafa is in charge as he is another Santon, an absolutely abysmal defender.

Rafa picked Janmaat when he was fit, who is very much a wing back, and then Anita, who has looked to get forward as much as possible, and looked very good doing it. Dummet may stay, but not as first choice left back.

Why would you want to move on our only two left footed left backs (Dummitt and Haidara) in addition to our three defensive midfielders (Colback, Tiote and Saivet) and our first and second choice keepers but keep Colo and Saylor ?

Whoever goes will be replaced with better. I’d put Taylor and Colo among the likes of Gouffran, Riverre and Obertan, as very likely to go. Siem De Jong is another who would be sold should a decent offer come in. Half the squad is probably open to offers.
