Sissoko Reveals The Thinking In The Newcastle Camp

9:31 am, Sunday, May 1st, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 15 Comments

Whatever Rafa Benitez does before the end of the season – two more wins in the last two games will surely mean we survive the drop – he has already transformed this Newcastle side and is busy internally transforming the club too.

Newcastle are now unbeaten in four games and have won two of them and collected 8 points and the next game is at relegated Aston Villa next Saturday.

Villa will not be an easy game however – and that will be what Rafa bangs into the players’ heads this week in training – but it is another must win game for Newcastle and we need to get all 3 points somehow.

Moussa Sissoko challenges Mile Jedinak yesterday

This is what captain Moussa Sissoko has said on the Newcastle web-site after the game:

“It was a crazy game. We scored, and then they had the penalty, then Karl made a big save – it was a fantastic game.”

“The atmosphere was good, and the fans were behind us from the beginning until the end.” “When you are a player, you like to play the game like today, so we are all happy.”

“The dressing room was very happy. “It was a tough game, but I think we showed some character. Andros scored a fantastic goal, and we keep going like in the last four games.”

“We played well, we showed some team spirit and we have more confidence now.”

“Today it was a massive game. With three games until the end of the season, we needed to win this game.”

“We knew Sunderland were playing away against Stoke City and Norwich would be playing against Arsenal.”

“We said if we win today, it would be massive for us.”

“We’ve got two games before the end of the season now, and we will do everything to win those games.”

“We need the fans. We know that this season has been very hard for us, for the fans, for the city – for everyone,” said the 26-year-old.”

“But now, we have two games left and we need everyone to stay in the Premier League.”

“They were behind us today, and that’s good. They will be behind us until the end of the season, and we need to keep fighting.”

“We need to stay focused on our job,” “We have another game on Saturday against Villa.”

“We knew they are already relegated, but I think in front of their fans they will try everything to win the game, but we will go there to fight and to come back with the three points.”

“We want to stay in the Premier League, so we need to give everything and win the game.”

You can see the Rafa Benitez mentality coming through in what Moussa and obviously the rest of the Newcastle players are thinking – it´s all positive and focused on doing the job.

If the lads can pull this great escape off, it will be remarkable to say the least, when all seemed lost after the Southampton debacle a short four weeks ago.

The worry next Saturday is it´s another away game – so we need to get our third away win of the season to match what we did at Tottenham and Bournemouth.

We´d even take the luck we got at Bournemouth to get this win – but if our lads play near the top of their game and fight like crazy like they did yesterday – a win is possible.

Just seen the highlights again on motd, Danny Murphy is right, why was Lascellas over-looked by Macca when Colo was so obviously poor, he is tall, strong, quick and a threat when we have a set piece, and an added bonus is that he will kick arse when others are slacking, this is the defender that we have been crying out for for many seasons and when we finally have him the numpty previous manager doesn’t play him, SM, hang your head in shame.

we need a win at Villa but remember its away. we have to fight the away voodoo or else am lost of confidence. but the fight is on lets keep going NUFC. I would keep Cisse on pitch there is some margic he does i dont get. We are attacked less wen he is on pitch.

For the No. 10 , what happened to De Jong no sub apperances nothing? Sissoko has a poor touch and vision but helps the the midfield wen we r being attacked. De Jong is my best option though.

What happendd to Wijnaldum but atleast he contributed in the first half of the season.

Mitrovic needs a partner it looked like he had got Perez but dont know wat happened.

Lasceles is my player of the season.

    Lindi@50 last thread

Third Sunday morning in a row where I have woken up without acting like a bear with a sore head can definitely get used to this feeling again!

One more please and then a Monday morning of blissful release . the previous Thursday morning (after the other 2 have played game on hand) is being unrealistic isn’t it?

Would Villa like us to be in the Championship with them next season ?

They would love to take us down but I am not sure if their chairman/board would.

If we drop I would imagine we would be favourites to come back up….Can’t say that about Villa Norwich or Mackems.

Cissoko for them should be missing (red card yesterday ) I think ?

The games just keep getting harder, how I would love Mackems and Norwich lose the next two games and we win at Villa….Leaving the last game a celebration.

I don’t think I could go through with it again. (Needing a win against Spurs)

Rafa has at least given us hope, I also hope we bloody sack Penfold !

Darlow, Townsend, Lasceles and Colback know what they r fighting for. The foreigners need to be reminded.

If WE survive and a big if, I keep Anita as my fullback with Mbabu as my back up. Pliz Rafa make Janmatt a winger, this guy cant defend.

Due to his age and relative inexperience, and that Mbemba is also young, Lascelles was fourth, maybe fifth choice at the start of the season. It’s not at all surprising he had to wait for his chance. He didn’t exactly grasp it either and only kept his place because of injury, before now earning it. Blaming McC is a bit wise after the event.

    Will die…
I have serious doubts as to wether we want to entertain janmaat at all. For me when the chips were / are down he looks to lack the stomach, the character to wear the shirt. I know,he’s not been alone in that, and he does have ability in him but he has a lot to do prove himself worthy in my view. I suspect he doesn’t want to be here and is looking for a move.

not sure why rafa brought taylor back in at all, but thankfully quickly saw how poor taylor is.

we need a win at Villa. crazy but i aint scared on Spurs we are at home and Spurs will give us a chance to counter which i believe we r good at.

Look at the City and Pool games. Villa will seat back and we aint good at possession football you saw yesterday.

  • 12 Nufc-83 // May 1, 2016 at 9:52 AM

Agree on lascelles Jimmy it’s easy to say when he’s performing like he is.

Jaanmat is not a wide player he is a modern day full back and had bad form this season but at the start most fans singing his praises so he either needs replacing or a another Fb bought just like lb. Anita played well last few games but not good enough there and mbabu is a CB by trade.

  • 13 jimmysmith // May 1, 2016 at 9:54 AM

Janmaat’s attitude and form will remarkably improve should we stay up and Rafa stay on. Anita and Janmaat would be good fullbacks in a well performing side.

  • 14 Nufc-83 // May 1, 2016 at 9:56 AM

Was meant to say either replacing with new fullback or given confidence again and starting. I think he is a good player but I must admit he has bottled the relegation battle big time.

Do it again against Villa and I’ll end up in a mental institution!
