Italian Club May Help To Solve A Newcastle Problem

There’s a report today in the Football Italia web-site that Newcastle’s Florian Thauvin could be a transfer target of Inter-Milan.

If Newcastle are relegated then the club will try to sell Florian if they can – or else they will try to loan the Frenchman out to lower our wage bill for the coming season in the Championship.

However, if we do stay up then Rafa Benitez will very likely want to take a look at the 23 year-ld in pre-season before deciding whether he can be sold this summer.

Florian struggled mightily when he first arrived in August, but a lot of that was due to Newcastle struggling in the league table right from the start under mediocre coach Steve McClaren – and Rafa Benitez is in another class as a football manager – world-class.

So we feel sure Rafa would be interested in the youngster who has loads of skills but the question on Florian is whether he has the mental strength – but we wouldn’t put it past Rafa to be able to bring out the best of the French youngster.

Thauvin singed a five year contract at Newcastle last summer and we paid around £13M for him so it would be tempting to Newcastle if an offer came in for Thauvin where we could get our money back on him and the club may want to take it.

But if Rafa is still around it will be his decision to make, since he will have total control of transfers in and out of the club.

Thauvin played 13 times for the Newcastle first team with one goal and three assists, before returning back to Marseille in January on loan through the end of the season.

Florian is a will-o’-the-wisp player much like Ben Arfa, who are much better playing in a good team that is winning where they can use their skills to very good effect.

It will be interesting if we stay up what Rafa does with Florian but he will likely have him in pre-season – to take a good look at him.

If we do stay up it could be another great chance for Florian to come good on Tyneside – maybe.

Comments welcome.
