As far as players are concerned Sissoko and Wijnaldum will be first out the door. Somebody will come in quickly for Townsend. Who knows with Mitrovic. He hasn’t really been all that good. Perez might stay. Shelvey can’t even make the starting 11 so he will probably stay. Some of the more expensive dead heads will have to be cleared out quickly. A sad mess that has been in the making for years now thanks to Ashley. This hurts. Brilliant comments by Shearer. He noticed we drew and Sunderland won.

Stating the bleeding obvious there Al!

the reason for this failure of a season is simply mcclaren, after 12 games we where in the bottom 3 yet the board did nothing, we simply stuck too long rafa was available back in febuary, sunderland will likely relegate us Wednesday everton are just poor and wont get a result at the stadium of light, this next window will define us for the next 10 years, will rafa stay? if he goes who will we get ? what players are jumping ship
? etc i just hope ashley fires charnley and sells up this time last season he said we would make our own luck and mount the horse to cart, mike mate weve just been relegated ! a sad sad day

not convinced there is a lot of ability…all season the players passing has been poor, decision making poor, shooting poor, control poor…..finishing poor,i know confidence is a big part of any players ability but look at leicester….worst percentage of posession of any champions but effective, not what you call a star filled team but graft, pressure and have desire to not get beat……they say if you dont have talent, then all you can do is work hard….our players dont…i think they believe they are better then what they are….some of them anyway….the term i like to use a bunch of big time charlies that think there it but are actually shit!

  • 5 manxpie // May 7, 2016 at 6:19 PM

With gini i feel it probably has been hard for him in a first season but to complain about not playing and then not show up is criminal
1st half he was nowhere to be seen and every away game this season tbh

if Shearer was goal just no one to bury it.

The same thing that happens once again that have finally kills us.

  • 7 Lilongwe Geordie // May 7, 2016 at 6:22 PM

Let’s not compare us to Leeds. There are massive differences between our situation and theirs. They crashed from Champions League Semi Finalists to league 1 in a matter of years. They had huge financial issues, which far outweigh our own current position, even if Ashley decided to call his interest free loan in – which he won’t. He doesn’t benefit in the slightest at this stage by doing that.

Leeds fell from higher, and dropped lower than we are likely to in our current situation. Our previous relegation was a much more closely aligned situation, and even then, our demise had been over a number of years.

Shearer’s right, he says very little that isn’t fairly obvious to most. He is hardly inciteful. A great goalscorer and a geordie footballing legend he is, a insightful pundit? not so much. Still, I am certain he feels it as much as the rest of us, even if his work occasionally means he can;t be at every home game.

To have start games with Cisse up front tells us a lot. It tells us we’re absolutely screwed. That man has the first touch of an elephant. Mitro is probably the slowest striker in the league. No way to build a successful team. Huge disappointments all over the squad. Doumbia = disaster, De Jong might as well have stay in the Netherlands. Same with Wijnaldum except for about 4 home games. No depth in defense. Saylor isn’t even Championship quality anymore. Shelvey just didn’t have it after the first couple of matches. Disasters everywhere. Good luck to whoever gets the job of rebuilding us. Especially if Ashley and Charnley are still around.

Without tempting fate it does look like we’re goosed.
I hope the various fan groups are having thoughts about issuing a collective open letter – for Ashley to clear off as well as his board.
One thing about sticking all the clots on the board it should ensure collective responsibility.
Tubbs might not even blink at the thought – but the City/Region should let their feelings known.
Cannot see Rafa staying – I’ll eat my hat if he does.

Some decent chances missed but that’s been the case for awhile.

A draw with the Mackems losing might have prolonged hope but even 2 draws for Mackems are now enough.

Still possible if they only get one draw from their remaining games but we would need to beat Spurs and on that display I honestly struggle to see us doing it ?

Ashley needs to start work on getting Benitez to stay from now not leave it a week.

If we are already down by Spurs game and no positive news the crowd’s reaction in game might surprise Benitez. Will they chant for him or against Ashley?

  • 11 SPRINGY // May 7, 2016 at 6:24 PM

he looked like he was a slower speed to everyone else today….that left hand side is not his psoition but you would expect better from an international player….tbh looks like hes had a lip on since he got moved the position he wanted to play attacking midfield behind the striker….he did’nt even play there for psv.

  • 12 Mister Tuff // May 7, 2016 at 6:24 PM

Oh – and our problems just do not relate to this season – it is the fruits of the last 5 years or so second rate management -from top to bottom.

  • 13 jane // May 7, 2016 at 6:24 PM

    “nufc messed up.”…against Vila

    irony from Alan Shearer.

does every Alan Shearer tweet warrant a new thread?

  • 14 manxpie // May 7, 2016 at 6:24 PM

Midweek our upturn recently has had a lot to do with town send and tiote 2 players McClaren hardly had
the players are to blame full stop

  • 15 jane // May 7, 2016 at 6:25 PM

    Leicester play like Barcelona.

  • 16 jane // May 7, 2016 at 6:27 PM

    we had better blame someone

  • 17 GeordieTwo // May 7, 2016 at 6:28 PM

Can we get back up with such disastrous ownership? That question will haunt me for a long time now.

  • 18 ToonHeart // May 7, 2016 at 6:28 PM

Looks likely I won’t be supporting them after 20 years. I’m sick and tired of the lack of structure and desire. We’ve been dodging bullets for far too long! I supported Newcastle since I was 11, I’m now 31. I’ve enjoyed the good times, but most of the good times in recent years have been followed by bad times! All credit to Rafa for trying, he done a great job, the team were ready months ago to call it a day, Rafa got them going again, we’re far too late bringing Rafa in. RIP you wonderful Newcastle fans. I#m off to enjoy life 😀

  • 19 TheToonKing // May 7, 2016 at 6:29 PM

I blame the players 90% and the rest McLaren. They’ve been poor all season, no application , no motivation, no passion, very few chances created , even those missed.

If it weren’t for Rafa leaving I’d be able to see the good side of the relegation. Hoping for a massive clear-out.

  • 20 davis_toons // May 7, 2016 at 6:30 PM

Shelvey can be of some use in Championship. Though he is shit.

If Cisse leaves, please get us a goalscorer. Spent some money on that please.

Someone that could blast a ball 30 yards out. that can really solve a lot of our problems.

    Is Shearer’s son ready?

  • 21 Lilongwe Geordie // May 7, 2016 at 6:31 PM

There is something in what you say. Not sure whether any of you saw the Guardians Incompetence Premier League table earlier this week. We misplaced passes in our own half more than any other side in the league. I think averaging 25/26 per game. Ourselves, Norwich and Villa were all in the top 5 based on their matrix (obviously not fool proof, or 100% reliable for incompetence) and Sunderland were mid table.

Still, the players have ability, and have shown it on occasion. Generally in big games against big clubs on TV. As I listed earlier, points home and away at Anfield and Old Trafford, a point at home against City and Chelsea (albeit neither in their finest fettle, although City were CL semi finalists at the time) and still a possibility to do a double over 2nd place Spurs. What has let us down is the lacklustre attitude against the lesser lights, the 6-2 mauling of Norwich aside – one of the worst defensive performances I think I’ve ever witnessed at any level by a player from Jonas Olsson.

Who would you take from Sunderland, Norwich, Villa – based purely on talent and ability, ignoring attitude? Picking a squad from those four on ability will give you a majority of our players I’d wager.

  • 22 banjax // May 7, 2016 at 6:33 PM

It’s looking increasingly gloomy for Newcastle’s stay in the Premiership and as I write this Everton who are Sunderland’s midweek opponents are being conclusively outplayed by Leicester who are leading 2 – 0 – even more reason for us to be gloomy. But the time for recriminations is after the Spurs game and we can just hope Sunderland mess up and we can get 3 unlikely points against Spurs. Let’s hope that regardless of what happens that Rafa will stick with us and Mike Ashley provides the funds to bring us back up and oh yes – that Lee Charnley and Co pay the price for their role in Newcastle’s relegation. Howay the Lads – Always !

  • 23 Lilongwe Geordie // May 7, 2016 at 6:33 PM

Leicester play nothing like Barcelona. They are complete contrasts in style. Would be great to see them come up against each other in a competitive fixture as both play in a way the other likes to play against.

  • 24 davis_toons // May 7, 2016 at 6:36 PM

The only person that could keep Benitez now is Ashley.

No matter what we do. Its does not matter much.

  • 25 Jib // May 7, 2016 at 6:41 PM

    Mr Tuff in his hat

  • 26 davis_toons // May 7, 2016 at 6:42 PM

We have to hope that Mike Ashley changes his tune of
“we have spent whatever that is left”.

  • 27 neverwin // May 8, 2016 at 3:05 PM

Getting weary of Shearer comments – would think he has short memory – Villa memory should haunt him- only needed a win then.
