Benitez Explains Why He Is Confident Of 3 Points Today

9:35 am, Saturday, May 7th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 6 Comments

One of the big dangers when you face a relegated team that have lost their last 11 games in a row is complacency and over-confidence.

And we are sure that Rafa has been ramming that into the heads of the Newcastle players all this week – that it will be a tough game today and after all – we have lost 9 of our last 10 road games and won only two away from home all season.

Rafa Benitez – confident

And one of those was at Bournemouth when we won 1-0 with our only shot on target from Ayoze Perez – and we had to thank Rob Elliot for making at least five world-class saves in that game to get the win.

In truth, Bournemouth were all over us in that game – although that´s not what Steve McClaren said after the game.

Rafa seems confident we can do well today at Villa Park:

“I’m not worried – every game is different.” “We are talking about momentum, and we know we are doing well.”

“Four games in a row, we have confidence and we are mentally ready for this game.”  “We won’t go there with any complacency, but we can do it.”

“The history in this game does not count because we have had four games doing well.”  “The team is very close to doing well.”

“So what we have to do is start the game without making silly mistakes which can give the other team confidence.”

“We have to do that, and we will.”  “I can only talk about our away games under me,” “Before, I knew there were problems.”

“But in our games, we have made mistakes, but afterwards the reaction was quite good.”  “We were really unlucky at Norwich.”

“For me, Southampton was the worst.”  “In the first half, we were awful.”  “Liverpool, we made a mistake but were quite good.”

“You saw against Villarreal how good Liverpool are, but our reaction again in the second half was fantastic.”

Four in five fans think we can win this game.

A second win in a row would be fantastic at this stage of the season.

That´s what we are hoping for.

Our match is on Setanta in Ireland.
English commentary and up to the second goal flashes on all PL games.

Talking about Setanta made me think about one of their regular commentators over the years – Brian Little.
He’ll be in a cleft stick today.

Born in Newcastle and a lifelong supporter of the Toon.

Now acting CEO at Aston Villa !

A clean sheet would do us proud today, and the rest will take care of its self hopefully.

They say its the hope that kills you.Afew weeks ago I’d got
my head round relegation then Rafa gave me hope. Villa cant keep losing and they are the team that sent us down last time – surely not again

    Jib –

Just to add my thanks (in anticipation) regarding the Setanta link.
I was expecting to have to try a dodgy live stream but I should be able to pick that up with my Virgin package.
