Unchanged Team For Vital Game At Aston Villa

aston villanufc emblem

Rafa Benitez has just announced the team to play Aston Villa this afternoon and it’s an unchanged side from the side that beat Crystal Palace 1-0 last Saturday – with Gini Wijnaldum holding his place in midfield.

Aston Villa (3-5-2): Mark Bunn; Alan Hutton, Ciaran Clark, Joleon Lescott (c), Kevin Toner, Leandro Bacuna; Ashley Westwood, Carlos Sanchez, Idrissa Gueye; Jordan Ayew, Scott Sinclair
Substitutes: Brad Guzan, Micah Richards, Jordan Lyden, Carles Gil, Jack Grealish, Rushian Hepburn-Murphy, Adama Traore

Newcastle (4-2-3-1): Karl Darlow; Vurnon Anita, Chancel Mbemba, Jamaal Lascelles, Paul Dummett; Cheick Tiote, Jack Colback; Andros Townsend, Moussa Sissoko (c), Georginio Wijnaldum; Papiss Cisse
Substitutes: Freddie Woodman, Daryl Janmaat, Steven Taylor, Jonjo Shelvey, Siem de Jong, Ayoze Perez, Aleksandar Mitrovic

Referee: Robert Madley (West Yorkshire)

Daryl Janmaat returns from injury and as expected takes his place on the bench with Anita continuing at right-back.

Rafa has gone with a team in form and our bench is strong for this game too.

This is what Rafa has said about the game today:

“It’s important, this message that we’re giving to them – no complacency. Concentrate,”

“We have seen Aston Villa’s last game and they were doing well against Watford. They did really well, so it’s really important.”

“We will play against Tottenham in the next game, but I think that the most important is this one.”

“If we win this one, we’ll approach the next one with the fans behind us and it will be easier to keep everyone on their toes and motivated.”

“But for this game, we need to be sure we’re focused and we cannot lose our concentration.”

“Villa are a good team, but they are in a bad position and they have lost confidence, but they still have some good players and the work rate is there.”

For us, that is the main thing – that we will play at our level.”

“If we win, it will be because the players are working as hard as they are working now. If we cannot, maybe it will be because Aston Villa have done well, but I have the confidence that we can win.”

There is real confidence amongst the fans that we can win this game.

I still haven’t seen much from Cisse to understand why he’s starting, but over the 90 minutes and with subs the team has been doing the job, so in Rafa I trust.

I guess it’s more to do with Mitro doing better as a sub, rather than Cisse being a better starter.

Pleased to see Anita starting and not Janmaat.

one fine day…I guess so. I just find him totally frustrating these days (well, for a while now).

Unless they’re going to serve balls to him in the box to shoot, he doesn’t generally offer a lot.

It has been working though, overall.

Not watching the Man U game. What a bunch of [insert colourful word here]! Still, go Man U!

Think we’ve been getting away with it for a few weeks now starting Cisse. Let’s hope it continues today.

Still can’t see why he’s starting though lol

Why change something that’s working. Like you, ibiza, i would like to see mitro start, but you can see his point. Let cisse tire them out, then bring on the big lad. I’d have liked to see Aarons get a run. Get in, manure!!!

Armstrong could be in for a lot of playing time next year, regardless of what division we are playing in. I think Benitez likes a forward who can turn defences and get in behind them.

United have done us a massive favour here! Get In!

Bobby…Personally, I’d think Perez would do that better than Cisse, plus offer something else.

I think we should keep this up tbh. Surely it’ll lead to Cisse scoring a worldly to prove us all wrong.

Bit odd that Aarons isn’t even on the bench.

    Thanks Man U!

As i was saying, before mata rudely interrupted me by scoring, Villa are vulnerable to pace and Aarons down one wing, with townsend down the other could’ve brought results. Still, in Rafa we trust. First hurdle looking good – can’t see norwich winning now. One down, two to go. Beat villa, chelsea beat scum and happy days. 😉

If Gini doesnt show up that Villa team then he should walk back to Newcastle

Their fans are not impressed by their team, I honestly dont see the thinking behind it but hey ho lets see what time brings…I dont see Townsend having much issue running at their defense though (also wouldnt be shocked to see a Hutton red card today because no way will he keep up with Sissoko or Townsend if they run at him)

Quite a few short fingernails in Middlesborough, Brighton had a good go with ten men.

Irony is that they may not go up via the play-offs, it always seems to be the un-fancied team that goes up, my tip SW

Excruciating waiting this last half hour. Lets get at em!! Carragher, I think it was, summed Rafa’s tactic up canny on sky. Tiote and Colback protect, nowt fancy – give it to the 4 in front of them and say ‘go and win us the game’.
    It’s the simple things…
