    Ed,

Can I kick the relegation issue RIGHT into the long grass by also starting an “Ed…will he, won’t he” debate?
    Song for Ed, anyone?

  • 2 manxpie // May 11, 2016 at 11:38 PM

The love in for the fat hippo headed tosser
is ridiculous he plays utter shite football that’s why he doesn’t get a chance at any top team

  • 3 Jib // May 11, 2016 at 11:39 PM

Mike Ashley blinked awkwardly into the camera and made a promise. “From this day forward, we will definitely be making our own luck,” the Newcastle United owner said and although this was never how he imagined it, the prophesy was uncanny. They have spent big and badly, entrusted inadequate people with too much power, played with fear and acted too late. Now, for the second time under Ashley’s stewardship, they are relegated.
Shambolic Newcastle have become a shell of a club overseen by pygmies
Demotion had not only been coming, but was practically inevitable given failed strategies, says George Caulkin in the Times

  • 4 magscar // May 11, 2016 at 11:39 PM

As I have posted in recent weeks the Blog did continue for some (if not all) of our last spell in Championship. Relegation alone won’t be Ed’s reason not to continue should he so decide and who could blame him?

  • 5 Blackley and Brownlie // May 11, 2016 at 11:41 PM

A horse, a horse. My kingdom for a horse. One of the biggest spenders in Europe – on donkeys. Would’ve been better off sending Carr on a scouting mission to Blackpool beach.

  • 6 beermonkey // May 11, 2016 at 11:41 PM

    silly question
    has the club said anything

  • 7 bettyswallocks // May 11, 2016 at 11:42 PM

Blackley….. It’s a bit inappropriate to gloat about your predictions. People are hurting. At least Back door man is original, bring him back.

No just Charnley. In a statement sweated over and polished before the Mackems kicked off. You may be surprised that he hasn’t apportioned any blame to himself at this stage but there is to be an inquest so he may yet stumble on the truth.

  • 13 Tsunki // May 11, 2016 at 11:48 PM

It appears the fabled horse did not have the necessary number of legs required to walk let alone pull a cart. We will need Pegasus next season to get back up.

  • 14 BandB // May 11, 2016 at 11:49 PM

    Jib.

    George is a visionary.

“We’ve got a bit ahead of ourselves.
“The target for last season was eighth.
    “It still is’

    Alan Pardew, Summer 2012.

‘There’s a rabbit off here. We are aiming to do WORSE next year? This will end in relegation sooner or later.”

  • 24 Belfast // May 11, 2016 at 11:56 PM

The only statement Charnley should be issuing is his resignation letter.

  • 25 manxpie // May 11, 2016 at 11:56 PM

I’m surprised that wasn’t in the statement tbh

The Rafa decision (made or up in the air) will need some careful stage management before Sunday. Unless talks have been ongoing behind scenes since last Saturday (or even before) it seems unlikely that such a complicated negotiation would be finalised for an announcement before Sunday. I, like many others no doubt, will not be surprised if negotiations are said to be ongoing even if they are not!

  • 34 Tsunki // May 12, 2016 at 12:07 AM

There will be solemnly on Rafa, because he will be quietly out the back door after the spurs game. There may be even a few weeks of erm-ing and ah-ing before someone pipes up that he’s actually not been here for a while.

    Dear God,

  • 43 Mister Tuff // May 12, 2016 at 12:15 AM

BandB I fear there may be a bit of truth in the plastic fan/suprfan debate rearing it’s ugly head yet again.

The Fans Forum and other supporter groups should get scribing an open letter demanding the resignations of the culprits and requesting Rafa stay – in the next couple of days – BEFORE the Spurs game.
Steal a march so to speach on the PR front.
Inset that we do not want you/ gross incompetence – let them be in no doubt that their future at NUFC is not tenable

  • 44 Tsunki // May 12, 2016 at 12:16 AM

Rob is a reformed badger gasser who has fallen on hard times since his dad got invalided out of the army and was forced to work in the asbestos factory, leaving his mother to support him and their fifteen children on a meagre income derived from knitting mail sacks out of her own hair and some part time wrestling.

  • 45 Mister Tuff // May 12, 2016 at 12:19 AM

Ian praised the hiring of McCardew as the dawn of a new era. He even penned some fly-on-the wall motivational treatises regarding the fantastic things McLaren and his cutting edge Team were going to implement, as if they’d written them themselves. How debilitatingly embarrassing.

I got a taste of it the other day Tuff.
The pint glass of outrage was still being lobbed, and the pool cue of retribution wielded, against anyone who dared to worry we’d go down.
The constant posting of Championship squads was only to show that only plastic fans didn’t believe we’d be straight back up, you see 🙂
    Yeah, I know…..

  • 54 manxpie // May 12, 2016 at 12:25 AM

Serious question Wat could mcclaren have done to change much with this squad?
Because let’s face it if he did the same as Rafa has done at the start of the season we wouldn’t have been happy!

I think Sissoko will be off pretty damn quick.
I think Mr T might follow shortly thereafter – shame as he was a fighter – he may want a final big payday.

Shelvey – massive disappointment – turned out to be a bad buy- I always thought he would be good but not so.

Any manager with these knackers/knobbers at the helm will fail. Tools implementing Mr Tubbs policies.

  • 75 Toonacious T // May 12, 2016 at 12:56 AM

    Laurent Robert 32
With all due respect mate. You are clutching at straws there. The acquisition of Defoe (proven to be worth 19 points) and Kirchoff has kept Sunderland up. At a snippet of what we shelled out for Mitro, Saviet, Doumbia, Wijnaldum Shelvey, et al.. Our recruitment and hiring Schteve and then failing to sack him when he was obviously not fit for purpose has sunk us.
At least for once we are not wasting our time squabbling about whether it is the manager or the players fault. The players are sh!te and we have overpaid for them. Moreover, the manager has the wrong motives and the club has went backwards under his stewardship. I will be shocked if Benitez stays, assuming the club has actually asked him, and I will be even more shocked if Ashley sells up.

How ideal and uplifting would it be if we had a full house v Spurs to sing with dignity purely in support of this beautiful Club and the retention of Rafa. Not for this undeserving group of players, and of course the inadequate owner and his senior management.

And if we don’t get Rafa, then to stand up, and stand firm, fans, citizens, diaspora, as one, to force Ashley out.

  • 79 Laurent Robert 32 // May 12, 2016 at 1:02 AM

Manx, she’ll have spoken to at least one more person at the club. Even if it was just her, she represented the whole club as she should have acted and responded accordingly. Kept quiet different reasons, one being to maximise the amount of points earned before he went to jail. Shocking.

That Aguero offside looks worse and worse now..

  • 80 Laurent Robert 32 // May 12, 2016 at 1:05 AM

Can we get back to that kind of standard?

Or at least be competitive with club like … Bournemouth, WBA, Crystal Palace, Swansea City, Stoke City, West Ham United, Southampton, Watford and not forgetting the Champ Leicester City? Club mention above are NOT THAT MASSIVE. (some might even disagree)

Can we? When? Once we are promoted AGAIN?
Give yourself another 7 8 years and you will be back down AGAIN? I though we are suppose to be competitive? Never mind. I hope the blog is still around…

  • 92 beefman13 // May 12, 2016 at 2:36 AM

Rafa, 10 points out of 27, shearer 8 out of 24,

And both Villa games of the highest pony.

Both brought in to do a job, both failed miserably, there was enough time for both, even though I know Mclaren should have gone earlier.

Did we look sufficiently motivated against that Villa team, did we hell, they just did not respond yet again when it really mattered just like most of the season.

And don’t even bother with the walk around the pitch patter at the end of the game, for me anyways i can’t stand the sight of them at this moment in time?????????

    Sod off.

  • 93 Mister Tuff // May 12, 2016 at 2:38 AM

Manx- it would be interesting to know what her pay off was. Doubt any true amount would be shown in their annual accounts. Could be disguised -payment to staff member X who later gives wad of notes to her.

This season was a farce before it even started the club couldn’t even get the exhibition games set-up correctly and that is a factual statement..

So how in the world would the club have any chance IF RAFA walks away to do their “review” of this disgrace that took place this season then time to find new manager who can sort out this sh#t show of players of who is going and who is staying and at same time manage to prepare for i believe a season which in Championship begins first week in August I believe?

This could go so wrong so so wrong so quickly and with these “custodians” as Joey would say running the club its still headed that way, worrying times : (

Good read except for the bit at the end that believes we are on a sound financial footing.

  • 98 Nufc-83 // May 12, 2016 at 6:31 AM

Is Ashley and Charnley really that bad as people are making out. Granted both have made massive mistakes that can’t be forgiven by some fans but looking at how they are changing their views I don’t think it’s the end of the world if they stay.

Ashley has been a complete disaster and the book stops with him as he overall makes the appointments. However when you look at it he has put the club on a stable ground financially and recently he has invested in the squad heavily (again some will say too little too late). I believe if he continues to put money into the club once we are back in the PL ( which I believe we will walk the championship again) then It won’t be the worst thing if he stays although I would like a billionaire to pump unlimited cash in but don’t think that will happen.

Charnley is the md who has gone out although a bit late and made the best managerial appt I can remember. The noises out the club suggested they were willing to give Rafa a lot of control over transfers and running of the club. Has he changed his tune for the better? I am not sure but people are focusing on him when in fact I can’t wait for all the useless idiots who actually played like rubbish and got us relagated to get out the door.

On Carr I think he should be sacked as he has not brought in a good player for years!!

Overall the management team have been an utter disgrace but there are signs they are changing for the better and coming into line with what the fans have wanted for a long time.

    Nufc-83,
I may well be getting you mixed up with another poster given your generic moniker but I’ve always thought you a moderate poster, however you say that Ashley has been a complete disaster but ask is he as bad as people make out? We have been relegated six times in 124 years, two of those have come just in his nine very long short years here. There has been five relegation battles in his nine years and an official statement that we don’t want to win a cup, I will spare the list of his other ‘mistakes’ as we are all too familiar. How can you possibly accredit Charnley with hiring Rafa, it was a desperate last throw of the dice to stave off an inevitable relegation. He left John Carver in charge while he chased, courted and waited for a sacked Championship manager to fail in his job before describing him ‘as the perfect fit for Newcastle United’ Googling worlds best available managers with ten games to go and thoroughly demoralised group of players does not signal change. Read Nufc.com, read that BBC link I posted earlier. Sound financial footing, do you realise what will happen if MASH holdings pulls in its loan. If you honestly think that leaving these two in charge might be a good thing you really need to give your head a shake!!

Just a quick word this morning to say to all my fellow NUFC fans – I love you all. Stay strong, and we’ll come out the other side. The club has faced heartache before and we’re still here, we were here long before Ashley and we’ll be long after.

The club never dies, and we are still United.x

  • 101 Jail for Ashley // May 12, 2016 at 7:15 AM

Come on bills son you fcukin coward. I know you’re reading, come on and defend our best ever owner, you’re quick to post when he does something you think you can gloat about.

  • 102 Nufc-83 // May 12, 2016 at 7:22 AM

Jail I agree with pretty much everything however without looking isn’t the loan to Ashley only something like 130m? Compared to most other clubs who are in debt for a lot higher amounts to other clubs, banks etc. That loan is not required to be paid back until the club is sold so it basically means we don’t have a debt at the minute.

As I said in terms of mistakes the list goes on and I agree with what you say but surely you can see the mentality is starting to shift for the better even if it was a last roll of the dice as you put it the noise was Rafa would be given full control next season which is what we all wanted. Ash invested heavily which is what we all wanted and was likely to invest again with the big cash injection and the financial footing we are on now.

The point I was making was the playing staff are bigger culprits for me and while the management have made major mistakes I can see a change in mentality.

  • 103 Ron Knee // May 12, 2016 at 7:29 AM

There were stories that Ashley was at NUFC earlier this week. Can anybody confirm this?

  • 104 Steel Dust // May 12, 2016 at 7:30 AM

I don’t see any change in mentality in the management. I see people reckoning that they can stuff even more money into their pockets and mattresses.

  • 105 Nufc-83 // May 12, 2016 at 7:31 AM

Steel strange considering we were one of the biggest spenders in Europe this season

  • 106 Steel Dust // May 12, 2016 at 7:34 AM

Nufc 83 you don’t really post like a fan whose team was just relegated 10 hours ago.

    http://talksport.com/football/revealed-top-10-premier-league-clubs-most-debt-150618149584?p=7
We’ve actually got the fourth highest in the PL and now probably the most by far in the Championship but lets not talk finances now, it’s the very last thing I care about.
How can you suggest they have changed, they simply had to agree to any demands Rafa made there was absolutely no guarantee they would have kept him. Yes money was spent but it was an investment in future profit not the future of the team.
We need Rafa to come out and tell us his plans before Sunday because Keith Bishop sure as hell won’t.

Will he stay or will he go? After the team’s gutless performance against Villa, I think the latter is more likely.

  • 109 firebug666 // May 12, 2016 at 7:39 AM

Well under this owner we are finding our level or should that be him dragging us down to his level.

We have had a losing mentality all season long, and poor old Rafa never really had a chance to save us.

I think like the fans; that fat idiot owner saw this coming and so distanced himself from the club. He has hidden away leaving his cheap lackey’s to take the flack.

Destined for disaster even before the season started, we all saw what was to come, most agreed to give them a chance, and before Christmas fans were calling for a change in direction, but the incompetence of the sleazy scum bags running the club, just kept on churning out all will be well, and not until the iceberg was looming large and unavoidable did they try to change direction.

Too little too late? That started in August 2015 when Charley was steering the ship, Carr was in the boiler room , Moncur monitored communications and McClaren found his way into the crows nest.

Doomed to disaster, and still sinking!

  • 110 Steel Dust // May 12, 2016 at 7:41 AM

Funny the media had to hire lip readers to find out what Ashley was saying and Ashley has to hire a PR consultant to tell him what to think.

  • 111 Jail for Ashley // May 12, 2016 at 7:48 AM

    Ron Knee,
I hope he understands and sympathises with us to realise that he has to tell us at least what he thinks before Sunday as that statement last night had nothing to do with apologies or the admission of mistakes. It was a pure firefighting exercise that surely everyone sees through now.
    Firebug,
As BandB pointed out last night, there has been a losing mentality since we finished fifth, a deliberate and calculated decision to make sure it never happened again.

  • 112 Ron Knee // May 12, 2016 at 7:51 AM

    Jail

If he has decided to leave, I doubt he’ll say anything before the Spurs match. No news is definitely bad news in this case!

  • 113 The overrated Frenchman // May 12, 2016 at 7:53 AM

It’s just a pity Ashley didn’t keep trying to push his way into Rangers.

  • 114 Nufc-83 // May 12, 2016 at 7:53 AM

Steel believe me I am more passionate than most but I made my peace with relegation a few weeks back so felt very little last night when it was confirmed. For me my anger vents towards the players not the board at the end of the day I couldn’t give a toss who runs or owns the club if they have someone like Rafa managing and we see investment at the correct level ( which if in the prem would be about 40-50m a season).

I can’t stand players like gini and sissokho who dragged this club down and hope they get thrown out the door and booed to hell on Sunday. They are players who were supposedly our top players and continued to hide and not want to contribute on the pitch while players like Townsend would ask for the ball and try make something happen and idiot fans would slate Townsend when he lost the ball!!

Biggest problem with relegation is losing Rafa and Townsend but the rest will hopefully rot somewhere else.

As for the 4th biggest debt that was a surprise however that full debt is owed to Ashley who only wants it back when the club is sold so it’s not as bad as that shows.

  • 115 Steel Dust // May 12, 2016 at 7:59 AM

Yes I expect bids have already been put in for Townsend.

  • 116 Veltmann // May 12, 2016 at 8:00 AM

So it’s comfirmed. No surprise, didn’t feel sad or anything as I accepted our poorness months ago.

  • 117 firebug666 // May 12, 2016 at 8:01 AM

    Jail

BandB is probably right mate, but this season in particular showed what we have become, from the first game of a disastrous pre-season, the team and Head Coach were never ready for the premiership, alarm bells were ringing from the start.

Like many on here I agreed to give McClaren a chance, but always knew that he along with the rest of the board was out of his depth.

If Rafa had been brought in a month or two earlier we would not have been relegated it’s that simple.

I have to say that it was not the players, or the manager that relegated us, they just played their part in the pitiful downfall of our club. the real culprits are Ashley and his incompetent board of directors.

Whilst they continue in their positions we will continue to sink, this is not finished by a long way, we are down, slipped beneath the waves and still sinking.

I don’t see us bouncing back up again at the first time of asking, and I fear the worst is still to come.

  • 118 Jail for Ashley // May 12, 2016 at 8:02 AM

    Nufc-83,
Jeezus man, it was the board who signed and told these players that we were a stepping stone, that they were commodoties that would be sold at the first decent offer, it was the board that gave our shirking, could not give a toss a new deal and implemented a bonus scheme for the grand prize of tenth. It was that ridiculous board controlled by Mike Ashley that has haphazardly assembled a bunch of mercanary misfits managed by lower league failures over the last four years, how do you expect them to play as a team.

  • 120 Jail for Ashley // May 12, 2016 at 8:08 AM

    Nufc-83,
I’m done “debating” with you, first we have a low debt compared to other clubs, when faced with the truth Ashley only wants that back when he sells, you are plucking ‘facts’ from the air to bolster your claims. You can’t debate with that.

  • 121 Average_Contents // May 12, 2016 at 8:10 AM

The loan isn’t payable upon a potential sale, it’s payable on demand as they’ve clearly stated previously.

Basically whenever he wants so no, it’s not good really is it.

He has and continues to have us over a barrel with our keks down waiting to get fcuked again.

Who knows, it might come to fruition what many have feared. He strips us bare of assets, not just on the field but off and decided to do what he’s done with his other failing businesses.

He might not but we are correct in fearing the worst because that’s all we’ve had is t
    It not.

    Fat slug out!
