Adam Armstrong will be reporting to pre-season training this summer and it’s likely to be brought forward to late June this year, with the Championship games starting on August 7th a week earlier than those of the Premier League.
Adam is one of the best young players we have had at Newcastle for many years and his is fresh from scoring 20 goals in 40 appearances last season on loan at Coventry and it will be at least one positive next season for the Magpies.
There will not be too many of those in the Championship.
Adam Armstrong – back in the summer for pre-season
And Adam and the fans must be hoping the great Rafa Benitez will stay on Tyneside and who better to bring this talented local lad through the club than Rafa Benitez?
Adam has played for all the England Youth sides through U19 and in 36 total games for England he has 23 goals.
He is a player we need – somebody who can put the ball into the back of the net and being a Geordie his commitment to his home town club is guaranteed.
This is what Adam has said about next season:
“Obviously, being a Newcastle lad, I want to try and get in the first team,”
“If you ask any footballer, they want to work hard in pre-season to try and get in the team, and if that doesn’t work out, then loan is probably going to be the option again. I’m just going to wait and see, train hard and see what happens.
“I’ll be going back to Newcastle for pre-season and will see how that goes. I’m also going away with England U-19s in July for the Euros.”
“I think my confidence and all-round game has improved. I think I won’t be scared to try stuff now when I go back to Newcastle.”
“Being such a young lad, I think I’m more confident on and off the pitch. It’s been a good experience all round.”
We expect Adam will be part of the first team squad next season and will be pushing for a starting position.
He has made 19 appearances for Newcastle so far with no goals – but that lack of goals will be fixed early next season.

Comment #2Colo, Taylor, Gini, sissoko, colback, Cisse, janmaat doumbia riviere, saivet, gouffran, ameobi and shelvey can all go for me and no doubt some others. This is an opportunity to clear the decks and get the board out too. 80k a week for shelvey, what a disgrace. Colo’s contract probably makes him get that too.
I’d hope townsend, Mitrovic, mbemba and lascelles form the backbone of our team with a new midfielder maybe even give de Jong a shot. He couldn’t do any worse than tug the arm colback or shelvey.
However, no doubt they’ll want to leave this sorry excuse of a football club.

Chipper thanks for asking, despite my decrepit PC five second time lapse. It occurred to me the other day that it would be very amusing if you were Louis Taylor, but then I realised my misogyny and that there are more than one female follower of football in the NE.
I need to get out more – how are you?

Comment #4Regarding to my earlier comment about Ashley saying “the bank is empty”.
Firstly Jib, I don’t appreciate the snide remark “It seems strange to have to explain this to a “fan” ” and you proceed to quote incoming figures reaching £120 million.
I am not as ignorant as you assume. I’m aware that money will be coming into the club at the end of the season.
Perhaps you missed my point or perhaps I didn’t explain it clearly enough.
My point is Ashley is going to be EXTREMELY reluctant to net spend a similar amount to what he spent this season. His mentality suggests to me that he will want to recoup the ~£80 million he wasted on dud transfers.
I expect the incoming transfers will not cost more than the amount we get for the outgoing players. I’d be very surprised not only if Rafa stays, but if he is given a budget of over £25 m for transfers

Comment #6One hope the lad can rise another level. Looks like he needs a supporting cast to get the best out of him. Will a new manager be able to find the bodies that can do that? Will there be a new manager, or will we see a interim appointment till MA has a man he can afford when we are down in League 1, and playing at the International Stadium?
