Report – Ashley Accepts All Conditions – Rafa Deal Close

10:37 pm, Monday, May 16th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 43 Comments

The Sun and other national papers including The Mail are reporting tonight that Newcastle owner Mike Ashley has accepted all of Rafa Benitez’ demands to become the permanent Newcastle manager for the next three years – and a deal is very close.

Rafa Benitez has held positive and productive discussions with Newcastle since Newcastle were relegated last Wednesday night,  and they reportedly have gone very well – and it now looks like a deal is close.

Rafa Benitez – a deal is close

It’s been reported that four of Rafa’s main conditions are the following:

  1. Full control of all transfers into and out of the club
  2. A complete overhaul of the Youth Academy
  3. A complete overhaul of the Benton Training Facilities
  4. Control of the medical department

They all make a lot of sense and it will be a complete change in which Newcastle are run – having somebody so experienced and successful and respected in the football world in charge of major areas of the Tyneside club.

The fans yesterday at the last game of the season when we took Tottenham apart 5-1 and scored three goals without reply once we had gone to 10 men, continually chanted Rafa’s name and pleaded with him to stay at the club.

Mike Ashley met with Rafa for two hours after the game last night and Lee Charnley has continued those discussions today – and we expect Newcastle would like to get the deal tied up this week and before other top clubs come in for Rafa.

Some of the reports are also indicating that Graham Carr our Chief Scout will be leaving the club – presumably that would suggest that Rafa will be bringing in his own people on the scouting side of things.

This would be fantastic news if we can sign Rafa signed up for at least three years and it will signal a new (very successful) era – a new dawn at the famous Newcastle United Football Club.

Here’s the Mail’s Craig Hope’s tweet on the news.

the fans will have nothing to complain about now

  • 2 YoungMagpieFromBurnley // May 16, 2016 at 10:42 PM

Unless it falls through at the final hurdle Jane.

  • 3 YoungMagpieFromBurnley // May 16, 2016 at 10:43 PM

Jane, what about relegation? Are we just supposed to forget about that overnight? Pffft, good one. Hahaha.

  • 4 Graeme // May 16, 2016 at 10:43 PM

    Further confirmation??

  • 5 jane // May 16, 2016 at 10:44 PM

a year in the Championship will be a price worth paying

  • 6 BandB // May 16, 2016 at 10:45 PM

    They will Jane.
It will be just the normal things normal fans at normal clubs complain about.
    Wouldn’t that be something?

  • 7 jane // May 16, 2016 at 10:45 PM

i answered your question before i even saw it

  • 8 JamesToon // May 16, 2016 at 10:47 PM

    Please Rafa stay on….

Graham Carr expected to leave according to reports as well!!!

Also, Bournemouth reject £25mil bid for Wilson and Ritchie from West Ham. We should follow west ham’s footsteps and buy more domestic championship proven players as they adapt quicker and know what the clubs mean to the fans.

    Sounds promising. If it’s true.
    Some further Blogger Rankings:
Jib: Hmmm. Tough one. Showing promise. Is this a kinder, gentler Jib/Jane/Jeff? We shall see. I’m assigning a one time ranking of 6/10 for a promising season.
GeordieTwo: Hmmm. Very difficult. The season was exhausting. Didn’t do well with the Official Blog Sage position. Having difficulties keep Blog End in order. Slowing down a bit with age. I would have to say I rate a 5/10 this season. Harrumph.

For concerned participants who are unhappy with their blogger rankings please feel free to send in your requests for another rousing round of ranking. This will be done by a completely impartial Blogger Ranking Review Board. This should cover any possible concerns. Harrumph.

Private comment to beermonkey. Right then lower your cone of silence beermonkey. This is top secret. We’ll get together and do the whole Blogger Review Panel thing and have a good pissup like last season. Heehee. Agreed?

I’ve already tweeted my congratulations to Ibizatoon on his “well-deserved triumph” at The Geordies. Though I won’t be attending his after-show party as he didn’t invite me.
    The talentless bars tad.

  • 14 GeordieTwo // May 16, 2016 at 10:55 PM

Ah yes Young Magpie from Burnley. Your ranking:
headstrong young’un with his heart in the right place. Comes on and gives as good as he gets. Good things to come I would think. 7/10.

  • 15 Novocastrian66 // May 16, 2016 at 10:57 PM

Cannot see Rafa staying. His level of ambition far exceeds our basket case of a club’s desire. He matches the fans, but unfortunately the club will never be as good as the supporters.

  • 16 JP...from The Rock // May 16, 2016 at 10:58 PM

If this is true it has made my day. I’ve been searching the web like mad trying to find any sort of news on Rafa staying. Please be true and we can have a proper manager build a team. Could relegation this time around be the real blessing in disguise?…I hope so and it looks like it.

    Happy days.

  • 17 GeordieTwo // May 16, 2016 at 10:58 PM

Ta BandB. Yes Ibiza is usually too scruffy to invite to the Gala event and accept the ultimate award. His Geordie will however be sent to him for a modest 7 euro fee.

  • 18 welshgeordie9 // May 16, 2016 at 10:59 PM

    Where’s my rating.

  • 19 Lindisfarne // May 16, 2016 at 10:59 PM

GeordieTwo loves a good rank all up over the blog. Those tissues are not for tears of sadness. Harrumph

  • 20 GeordieTwo // May 16, 2016 at 10:59 PM

This news is bringing a fair number of older bloggers on to comment. I hope it’s true. We desperately need some good news and Rafa would be it.

  • 21 YoungMagpieFromBurnley // May 16, 2016 at 10:59 PM

I’m flattered with the seven however I’m certain that you contribute to a much higher standard on this blog. If youre a five well then, that makes me… Yeah haha.

  • 22 welshgeordie9 // May 16, 2016 at 11:01 PM

    Hope these stories are true.

  • 23 Munster Mag // May 16, 2016 at 11:03 PM

Geordie two whats my rating? Jail, as usual you take an absolutist position,to the detriment of logic. I criticised rafa as i wud criticise any manager. I like rafa loads, but i wont fawn after any manager like u or others. Similarly, if ashley does something good i will praise him. Which you cant. I criticised rafa’s approach ro sunderland and norwich games. I loudly questioned his use of sissoko on the left (which he subsequently changed) and his usage of cisse over mitro in every game. I think those were fair. I dont go with the majority unless i feel they are correct. Lets hope rafa stays. He’s a top top boss.

  • 24 WWSBRD // May 16, 2016 at 11:03 PM

Would be amazed if this was true, seems to be a lot of positive news coming out of NUFC since we’ve been relegated doesnt there…odd ud think being relegated would be troublesome for a club but everything looks to be going swimmingly

I must be the cynical type these days

  • 25 GeordieTwo // May 16, 2016 at 11:05 PM

Ah yes. Harrumph. To continue with the rankins.
Welshie: had a tough year. His father has been ill and it’s shown in his postings, some of them being somewhat grumpy. However having said that still a stout (although some would say Welsh) supporter of the club. Keep up the good work. 7.5/10
    and as for you
Lindisfarne: can be cunning with his comments. Possible mockery but all in a good way. Has strong interdisciplinary talents. Possibly a candidate to handle my overseas Manly Men products. Well done Lindisfarne. 7.8/10 (I rarely give out 7.8’s).

  • 26 NoahJ // May 16, 2016 at 11:06 PM

If it’s true that benitez has been given full control of transfers, then it’s almost worth getting relegated for. this endless cycle of nonsense hierarchy policy will (hopefully) finally be over, even if it has taken the second relegation in 7 years for ashley to realise how not fit for purpose it is

  • 27 Lindisfarne // May 16, 2016 at 11:10 PM

    You have got to laugh

  • 28 BandB // May 16, 2016 at 11:10 PM

    George Caulkin is reporting it.
And the BBC is reporting that George is reporting it.
That ramps up the credibility a bit.

  • 29 welshgeordie9 // May 16, 2016 at 11:13 PM

    7.5/10 you’re having a laugh.

  • 30 bettyswallocks // May 16, 2016 at 11:14 PM

Looks a done deal now. Allelujah.

  • 31 BandB // May 16, 2016 at 11:15 PM

    Budget to be discussed tomorrow.

  • 32 wolfshead@toon // May 16, 2016 at 11:15 PM

    munster keepin it real haha

  • 33 GeordieTwo // May 16, 2016 at 11:16 PM

WWSBD: clear, cutting, and completely kosher. Brings a fresh view. I like his work this season. A very strong finish leaves you with an 8.1 mate.
Munster Mag: polished prose. Hard hitting, provocative comments. Willingly wakes us with well chosen bon mots. Munster Mag: 8.1/10
JamesToon: desperately wants to see improvement from his club. Works hard at his postings. Can be a bit crusty when we lose. 7.5/10
JP from the Rock: an old timer. Knows his stuff. Follows the club avidly. Suffers along with the rest of us. 7.9/10
Novocastriano: important contributor. Brings a sage, saltiness to an otherwise peppery pot of contributors. Ranking 7.6.

  • 34 BandB // May 16, 2016 at 11:17 PM

    Mood “very optimistic”
    Benitez “already discussing signings.”

  • 35 GeordieTwo // May 16, 2016 at 11:21 PM

This is wonderful if true. Bring Rafa over the line Mike. To continue:
bettyswallocks: excellent contributor. No nonsense approach. Recognizes Ashley bollocks when presented. Ranking: 7.6
wolfie. I didn’t forget you. Well chosen words for hard times. Some very interesting points of view. Gets some good dirt for us. Ranking: 7.2.

  • 36 Thump // May 16, 2016 at 11:21 PM

Go on then, G2 – give me a rating.

  • 37 GeordieTwo // May 16, 2016 at 11:22 PM

Oh all right then welshie. We’ll make it 7.0

  • 38 JamesToon // May 16, 2016 at 11:24 PM

  • 39 GeordieTwo // May 16, 2016 at 11:25 PM

    Ah yes Thump:
Beavers away. Has good instincts about the club. Been around quite a while so knows his stuff. Pensive, yet somehow also slyly sinister. Can get a quick one in on you before you notice. 7.8/10

  • 40 wolfshead@toon // May 16, 2016 at 11:26 PM

thanks i havent been around much lately hows things with you

  • 41 Laurent Robert 32 // May 16, 2016 at 11:26 PM
