The Sun and other national papers including The Mail are reporting tonight that Newcastle owner Mike Ashley has accepted all of Rafa Benitez’ demands to become the permanent Newcastle manager for the next three years – and a deal is very close.
Rafa Benitez has held positive and productive discussions with Newcastle since Newcastle were relegated last Wednesday night, and they reportedly have gone very well – and it now looks like a deal is close.
Rafa Benitez – a deal is close
It’s been reported that four of Rafa’s main conditions are the following:
- Full control of all transfers into and out of the club
- A complete overhaul of the Youth Academy
- A complete overhaul of the Benton Training Facilities
- Control of the medical department
They all make a lot of sense and it will be a complete change in which Newcastle are run – having somebody so experienced and successful and respected in the football world in charge of major areas of the Tyneside club.
The fans yesterday at the last game of the season when we took Tottenham apart 5-1 and scored three goals without reply once we had gone to 10 men, continually chanted Rafa’s name and pleaded with him to stay at the club.
Mike Ashley met with Rafa for two hours after the game last night and Lee Charnley has continued those discussions today – and we expect Newcastle would like to get the deal tied up this week and before other top clubs come in for Rafa.
Some of the reports are also indicating that Graham Carr our Chief Scout will be leaving the club – presumably that would suggest that Rafa will be bringing in his own people on the scouting side of things.
This would be fantastic news if we can sign Rafa signed up for at least three years and it will signal a new (very successful) era – a new dawn at the famous Newcastle United Football Club.
