Alan Shearer is still not convinced that Rafa Benitez will accept the Newcastle manager position and manage the club in the Championship next season.
Well at least Alan is consistent and he’s sticking to his opinion, even though the news coming through seems extremely positive that Rafa could be signed up before the end of week.
Alan Shearer – not convinced
This is what Alan Shearer said on BBC Look North yesterday:
“I’d still be very surprised if he was to be Newcastle manager.” “I’m sure he’ll have many offers.”
“And I’m sure he’ll have many questions that he wants to ask the owner, and many assurances that he’ll want to ask: including about whether he will be allowed to manage the whole football club.”
“He’ll want all that down in black and white.” “I hope he stays but I’d be surprised.”
“The atmosphere on Saturday at St James’ Park for a team who had just been relegated was just unbelievable.”
“You looked at the players celebrating when they scored a goal, and the passion and commitment they showed – but where has that been all season?”
“I know there was nothing on the game, so really there was no pressure on them, but really the performance was baffling for me.”
It’s fairly easy to answer Alan’s question about where was has that passion been all season.
Rafa wasn’t with us earlier – but it still doesn’t show our players in a good light one little bit – that’s true also.
We hope Alan is wrong on Rafa, but it seems this interview was before the news broke late last night about how much closer Rafa is to accepting the Newcastle job.
Comments welcome.

Comment #41B and B most of the media are reporting we are agreeing to everything so it’s looking good.
You can meet many people who tell you they are the real deal and you might even believe them.
But once you do meet someone who is actually the real deal it becomes obvious really quickly that the others were jokers.
IMo and that’s all it is an opinion, I think Charnley convinced him that this triangle of power thing would work.
Alarm bells would have rung with me straight away that they were employing British managers (poor ones at that) to use a continental system and that it was a conflict of interests but I know my footy, Ashley doesn’t.
Benitez is a world class manager and knows how a club should be run, he has after all managed some of the best clubs in the world.
The experiences he has gained about the inner workings of those clubs are and always will be far far far superior ton any little pipe dream Charnley comes up with.
Above all he is the manager so we don’t want to dilute his time too much.
So give him what he wants, everything. His experience tells us its a gamble worth taking. A much better one than relying on a failed lower league manager who took up scouting.
Then tell Charnley, he keeps his title but Benitez is his boss and he is to do the donkey work. I.e. Benitez wants training ground facilities improved, Charnley improves them etc etc.
Thats how I see it happening

I reckon Jack was nearest with a prediction of 15th place, 39 points and leading goal scorer Wynaldum with 8 goals – he was a bit out with cup predictions. If you disagree let me know.

you’re hilarious, my sides are positively splitting.
I along with many, presumably Pochetinno too, thought townsend was a headless chicken, an english obertan if you will and I very quickly acknowledged he was on fire since joining.
secondly on Martinez when he went into everton first year they got 5th, into europe and scored the msot goals ever. Sadly it went downhill from there. I have to repeat this as you obviously didn’t absorb it before.
I don’t unlike you have a crystal ball, however, I can see throught the mists this very boring, repetitive, arrogant, smirking little prat dying to prove a point, when they are so obviously pointless. ‘The eyes are open, the mouth moves, but Mr Brain has long since departed, hasn’t he, Betty?’

I note the “ifs” and “maybes” in your post at 25 where you no longer think free advertising is an issue. Wow. If we can sign Rafa, all Tyneside may be free and the life of the Toon may move forward into broad, sunlit uplands. But if we fail, then the whole world, including the players and fans, all that we have known and cared for, will sink into the abyss of a new Dark Age made more sinister, and perhaps more protracted, by the lights of the perverted Makems.

Comment #45The major factor perhaps for Rafa is that he is being offered more influence than he has ever had anywhere and at a club which has clear untapped potential.

Comment #47B and B the only way they could negotiate a transfer budget would be to say you get x amount plus what you sell.
It would be very hard to know exactly how much is available until we know how much we are getting off some of the players and also taking into account the wages of the sold player and incoming one.
What I do know is that I would hate to be a fan of any other championship club. None of their stars are safe if Benitez wants them.
The draw of Newcastle United would be enough but then add Rafa to that mix and seriously, who would want to stay at the club they are at?
How many are hoping and praying as we speak that the toon will move for them?

Yes the team played well and yes if we’d been playing like that all season we’d be top 8. But to keep saying why did we not play like that all season is pretty obvious; we had Mclaren in charge. Shearer couldn’t galvanize them when he was in charge, it wasn’t until Hughton took charge that we started to look good.
The players can’t win. If they’d rolled over and got a hiding they’d have been crucified but they didn’t, they tried their best to put in a good performance (which they have since Rafa came in) and they are still being criticised.
Mclaren was totally out of his depth and should have been booted out months ago. It was his influence and tactics on the team that got us relegated. Rafa came in, got them organized, got them fit and instilled a bit of belief but it wasn’t quite enough in the end.

Comment #51Blackley Im a fan of many many years and have used this alias for well over a decade.
There were reasons at the time (work related) that I adopted an alias and won’t go into that and have just kind of gotten used to it.
It’s pointless changing it now though as so many people recognize the name.
Maybe not here, but other places definately

Glad I’ve caught you (if you’re still here ) – you were kind enough to offer advice on Sunday night when I was whingeing about Windows 10.
My issue was (and still is, now I’m attempting to post again) Windows 10 keeps freezing while I’m typing, it just froze completely while typing this and I’ve had to start again. Cursor control is erratic, too. I don’t recall this happening with my old Windows 7, or Vista, whichever, which I would dearly love to retain but this is a new laptop and Windows have decided they “no longer support” those editions.
Maybe it is because of adverts, though none pop up visibly during or after the freezes, but it’s helpful to know somebody is managing fine with 10 – thanks.

Comment #60Shearer has every right to question Ashley’s intentions. He did the same to KK and everyone else, other than Houghton, has been a hand picked crony willing to accept his model. Even poor Houghton got done over despite being a supremely successful ‘stand in’ .

Comment #61Essex, windows 10 is actually pretty good. Those that struggle either have a poor correlation between graphics card, cpu and in some cases even motherboard or they have a system full of viruses that they weren’t aware of.
First thing first though make sure your bios is the latest edition. After that use ctrl alt dlt and task manager and get rid of all of your background processes.
Do that and it should improve immediately. Then you can reinstate the processes you want.

Comment #62Essex I had better point out that your laptop could just be to old to use it effectively.
There are ways around it like reducing the processes in the background, turning off cortana and using adblocker with google that would improve it definately but the easiest way is just to go back to windows 7.

The free Windows 10 was basically a beta test to save a fortune on testing.
Even installed on a brand new PC it took a while to run completely smoothly. As FLE says, on a laggy buggy old thing it is going to misfire.
Windows 10 was Microsoft’s way of telling you to buy a new PC.

Comment #64Hail Wor Ashley, I had that recently somewhere else.
I forecast that Sunderland would lose their final 3 games.
He’s badgered me ever since. I am not bothered though, it’s water off a ducks back to me.
In fact I find it funny because he professes to be a toon fan and yet he can’t get his head around the fact that I actually EXPECT Sunderland to lose every game.
He keeps saying things like “no one listens to you, you proved you don’t know what you are talking about” etc, etc.
He just doesn’t get it.
I’m actually surprised he hasn’t followed me on here ha ha.

Thanks for your interest and advice, I presume it’s more directed at me than Essex, though. Sadly, being technologically illiterate, I can’t really understand your advice but thank you for the effort, sir.
The laptop was brand new in November, my old one was over 5 years old, so I don’t see how I could have picked up more viruses in 6 months than I did in 5 years but, hey, what do I know?

Comment #66press three keys together ctrl alt dlt
click task bar
you will see your processes.
Then you just temporarily disable them and see if it improves.
Forget updating bios as you might make a mistake if you don’t have basic knowledge and that could actually break it.
Install google as your browser because adblocker on that is the easiest out of all of them to use.
I’m free for a bit so can walk you through it
