Andros Townsend In Total Awe Of This Man

8:10 am, Tuesday, May 17th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 13 Comments

It’s obvious the Newcastle fans are not the only ones who have been enthralled and riveted with the way Rafa Benitez is changing the mood at the club both on and off the field over the last nine weeks or so.

The players also seem to be very keen that Rafa stay at Newcastle on a long term basis.

And in case there are any Spurs fans reading this we wont even mention how we took then apart 5-1 on Sunday with only 10 men for the last 20 minutes when we had been reduced to 10 men after Mitrovic again acted rather stupidly.

Andros Townsend and Rafa Benitez on Sunday

Andros Townsend was selected in the England squad of 26 by manager Roy Hodgson yesterday, but the 24 year-old has no intention of leaving Newcastle.

The former Tottenham winger has responded to the news that Rafa may stay long term at Newcastle:

“It would be massive for Newcastle to keep Rafa as manager.” “He is one of the best managers in the world.”

“If we can keep a manager of that caliber and keep doing the right things we will build.”

“We will not cut corners and we’ll build for the future and come straight back in the Premier League, and not just in the top flight, but up there challenging because that is what the manager wants to do.”

“For me as a 24-year-old to be able to work with one of the best coaches in the world, who has coached the best wingers in the world – is fantastic.”

“You have seen my performances improve since he came in.”

It seems that Rafa wants to keep most of the Newcastle squad for next season and it will be interesting to see which top players we can afford to keep – but two of our signings in January – Townsend and Shelvey will be going nowhere.

Whether that will be the same for Gini Wijnaldum, Moussa Sissoko and Daryl Janmaat remains to be seen.

But in the summer the Rafa train to greatness for Newcastle United will be leaving the station.

Why would you want the MD sacked?

  • 2 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // May 17, 2016 at 8:16 AM

Because he is a bespectacled roll-on deoderant who compounds his own and ashleys bad choices with further bad choices, maybe?

Townsend still using ‘we’. Maybe he is also considering staying for a season.

    Charnley “a good negotiator”?!!

How many transfer deals have ‘not crossed the line’?
How many overpriced and overpaid French players do we have that do not play?
How many times has he evaded a straight Fans Forum question with meaningless generalities?

    SACK HIM!!!

    What mark said lol.

You don’t think he deserves it?

He’s a spineless yes man who doesn’t know the first thing about running a football club and got promoted above his station a lot like previous appointments by the rotund one smply because they do as instructed.

Yes he’s just following orders but orders that have, in the end, resulted in us being relegated for a second time.

Ultimately the slug is to blame

Lochinvar@5 – good post, agree with it all. Also, I actually like us playing against a lot of the Championship teams we will be. Leeds, Forest, QPR etc. I remember them as proper teams from the ‘seventies and you really want to beat them!

And I didn’t mention biscuits once! Jib might be around and his delicate nature struggles with biscuits.

Danny Murphy said on TalkSPORT on 16th May, that Newcastle United need to be careful not to give Rafael Benitez too much money to spend.

Benitez is reportedly considering staying at Newcastle, but he wants full control over the transfers the club make.

Murphy believes that Benitez is the right man for Newcastle, but he does not believe he should be given a huge budget – as the quality is already in the squad to get the Magpies out of the Championship.

“Newcastle need someone like him, who’s prepared to do the lot,” Murphy said.

“If he stays in charge they come straight back up.

“I think you have to be careful on what you give him to spend. There can’t be a free rein. [They need] three players max. They have enough quality.”

You ever thought of taking up forecasting permanently ?

Rafa won’t stay in the Championship. The Ashley/Sd Criteria for Business.
A jolly buffoon and his grandad figure toting a cardboard cutout ex legend through the sjp halls.
The odds are stacked pretty high against.

Great post! If Rafa the gaffa signs up the good times are coming back! How can getting relegated be this good? As you say, no Stoke city, West Brom, Southampton and a future in the top 6 once we’re promoted. Mackems will probably be relegated next season as well! Can’t wait for the season to start!
