Benitez Unlikely To Be After This Premier League Player

10:40 am, Thursday, May 19th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 11 Comments

In the last few days we have seen lots of reports that Newcastle are linked with a move for 27 year-old Bournemouth forward Lee Tomlin.

Tomlin played 10 times for Bournemouth last season with a single goal and was sent out on loan in January to Bristol City where he scored 6 goals in 18 appearances.

There are also reports the relationship between Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe and Tomlin is not good and that he will be sold for around £3M in the summer.

Lee Tomlin in action for Bristol City

It’s The Sun is reporting that Rafa Benitez is interested in the player, but we’d be very surprised if that has any truth to it.

The truth is we expect Rafa to bring in players a lot better than Tomlin, who has been a journeyman player in his career playing for Rushden & Diamonds, Peterborough and Middlesbrough in the past.

That’s assuming Rafa will be our manager for the next three years and he will come in and build a team not only good enough to win the Championship next season, but is also be  the basis for a future top team  in the Premier League.

That’s what Rafa is on record as saying he wants to do at Newcastle – to win trophies.

Lee Tomlin would not fit into that manifesto.

However, if Rafa doesn’t come and we continue to run Newcastle as in the past then yes – Lee Tomlin could be a target and yes – the managers Lee Charnley will be going after could well be the likes of Steve Bruce and Neil Warnock.

That’s only one reason we are so desperate to get Rafa Benitez  at Newcastle long term.

Lee Charnley’s ambitions for Newcastle are about 10% those of Rafa – at best – and that’s  being kind to Lee.

not going to break it down for you. Figure it out yourself. This blog is full of people longing for an argument, I almost went into that mode myself, given my team’s plight.

    Onwards and upwards.

I’ve broke it down and think it is an odd thing to say, congratulations for a man who sent us down. Whatever floats your boat.

I’ll help. Congratulations to that individual for his success, he was brought in to do a job, he did it magnificently.

Settle down man. We’re both old-timers here, no need for this, you’re bigger than that.

Yes, patience is down all round, but the essence of this blog is a little fun, some banter and team support. Remember your humorous statements?

If I met him and I’d congratulate him on his individual success, yes. Old timer meaning we’ve been blog members, and I dare say both key contributors, for a while, no need for us to squabble.

Disagreeing is part of football, even heated arguments.

    Anyway, no hard feelings mate.
