Benitez To Get Huge Transfer Budget At Newcastle

Rafa Benitez has agreed to remain as the Newcastle United manager and the news in the Telegraph today is that he will get a huge transfer budget in the summer and next January.

That’s in order to be sure the famous Newcastle club get promoted straight back to the Premier League and then the real business of making Newcastle great again can start.

Rafa will have total control of all transfers into and out of the club, but the other major agreement is the level of transfer funds he will receive.

Rafa Benitez – no wonder he’s smiling

Rafa will get cash to spend after Newcastle owner  Mike Ashley seems (very) willing to give Benitez carte blanche at the club.

Chief Scout Graham Carr will leave the club and Rafa will bring in his own scouting team.

The other news with transfers is that anything the club get in from transfers out – like selling Moussa Sissoko and Gini Wijnaldum – will be given back to Rafa in order to bring new (replacement) players into the club.

For that to be possible it seems that Newcastle must be in very good financial position  – at least for one year spent down below –  and we received just less than £73M from the Premier League yesterday for the season just ended.

And it could even be there will be no layoffs of the non-playing staff.

Since it’s completely the club’s fault we were relegated – that would be a good gesture.

And this all looks like a very good reaction to what was a very bad situation when we were relegated for the second time in seven years – exactly two weeks ago today.

Howay The Lads!!

Bobbybee – we wanted Ashley to stay out of football? When was that? Even if that was true, we certainly didn’t want him to take the football with him. The idea was that he should buck up his ideas and start appointing people who knew what they were doing in a business they knew all about. Ashley then waited until we got relegated twice and let’s not forget they waited until we were fairly certain to go down, to do something radical to save his business from catastrophic decline.

Faint praise is all that’s forthcoming, we would be yawning at the appointment of another also ran bod head coach or even retaining McCardew if we had scraped into staying in the PL.

Yeah I still cant believe we went down I assumed Mclaren would get us mid table like Pardew but a lot better to watch never thought it would be such a disaster !

Would be good to see us start giving teams a spanking at St James’s next season its been a while where teams no they are going to get a doing when they come to our ground !

It’s crazy we went down but not at all surprising.

Now I’m really exited for this upcoming season. The goal has to be to beat our 102 points total!

    OOT!

    Krul – £5m

    Colo – released
    Saylor – released
    Janmaat – £7m
    Haidara – £2m

    Sissoko – £12-15m
    Gini – £12-15m
    Thauvin – £7m
    Cabella – £6m
    Gouffran – £1m

    Cisse – £3m
    Riviere – £1m

£60m raised and with Marveaux and Obertan added you’re talking a wage bill £25-30m lower so I’d say £50m of that money could be used for transfers and £10m to fill any financial hole.

    Remaining players:

    GK: Darlow, Elliot, Woodman

    RB: Anita, Mbabu

    CB: Lascelles, Mbemba, ???????, ???????

    LB: Dummet, ???????

    CM: Tiote, Shelvey, Colback, Saivet

    RW: Townsend, ??????

AM: SDJ, Perez (would rather see him as a ST though)

    LW: Aarons, ??????, Sammy

ST: Mitrovic, Armstrong, ?????? (proven goalscorer)

6-8 players needed I’d say. £50m should be plenty for a rebuild especially if that includes 1 or 2 free agents.

Rafa is apparently allowed any funds fro player sales according to the chronic, that would be good, £30-40 mil for Sissoko, janmaat, cisse and Gini…..should be a few decent buys for that….I would go after Lee Hughes and see where we are in January, I think Rafa will be buying players able to step up in preparation, Rafa may want go keep most of the squad and save his powder till January, it starts now ?

Mike deserves no praise, he’s only doing this to save himself and his business. Wouldn’t suprise me if Ashley sacks him after we are promoted to get him off the wage bill. But, let’s see what happens.

Tsunki, the reality is nobody knows what happened and why. Not me, not you – nobody. All we know is that Ashley has agreed to everything Rafa wanted and the future looks bright. How we got to this position has been decided behind closed doors and couldn’t have happened without Ashley’s say so. Why anybody on this blog wants to search for reasons to be bitchy on this auspicious day is beyond me. For all the things he’s got wrong in the past – and rightly been lambasted for it – like it or not, he’s got this 100% right.

    HWA

Great reading of what needs to be done and fair valuations on those players. I’m not sure we’ll get quite that high for Janmaat, but I think some clubs would be willing to pay that for him as in the right side he would be quite good. 6-8 players is the right number as well. I think we’ll probably get a couple of free agents and 4 of the players that we need now and then keep filling things out in January and next summer.

    Highest priority holes to fill:
    1) a player who can play CB or LB
    2) a player who can play LW or RW
    3) a striker
    4) Another CB/LB
    5) Another winger

If we get versatile players for 1 and 2 then the flexibility that gives us for 4 and 5 is great. I rate a striker as farther down on the list as what we have (Mitro, Armstrong, Perez, SDJ) would serve us well without additions in the Championship IMO. We also have larger and more immediate gaps at CB and on the wings which should be prioritized.

Obviously we’ll need better than the current strikers in the Prem and getting someone in for a year to bed into the squad would be ideal but we also are unlikely to get a high-talent player to come play for us in the Championship. It’s more likely that we’ll get an up-and-comer (a la Mitrovic last year) which would be great. A speed merchant would be ideal as we don’t currently have that option with the current striking corps.

Anyway, I’m really looking forward to seeing what Rafa will do transfers-wise and rebuilding and am quite excited for the summer/start of next season. The only question I have is how am I going to watch any games living in the US?!?
