Rafa Benitez has agreed to remain as the Newcastle United manager and the news in the Telegraph today is that he will get a huge transfer budget in the summer and next January.
That’s in order to be sure the famous Newcastle club get promoted straight back to the Premier League and then the real business of making Newcastle great again can start.
Rafa will have total control of all transfers into and out of the club, but the other major agreement is the level of transfer funds he will receive.
Rafa Benitez – no wonder he’s smiling
Rafa will get cash to spend after Newcastle owner Mike Ashley seems (very) willing to give Benitez carte blanche at the club.
Chief Scout Graham Carr will leave the club and Rafa will bring in his own scouting team.
The other news with transfers is that anything the club get in from transfers out – like selling Moussa Sissoko and Gini Wijnaldum – will be given back to Rafa in order to bring new (replacement) players into the club.
For that to be possible it seems that Newcastle must be in very good financial position – at least for one year spent down below – and we received just less than £73M from the Premier League yesterday for the season just ended.
And it could even be there will be no layoffs of the non-playing staff.
Since it’s completely the club’s fault we were relegated – that would be a good gesture.
And this all looks like a very good reaction to what was a very bad situation when we were relegated for the second time in seven years – exactly two weeks ago today.
