It’s Today – Benitez To Be Announced As Newcastle Manager

11:56 am, Wednesday, May 25th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 35 Comments

Sky Sports and other outlets are reporting that Rafa Benitez and Newcastle have struck the deal and all agreement have now been fully documented – with the great news that his appointment as Newcastle manager for the next three years is now expected to be announced later today at a press conference.

Rafa has been adamant he needs  written assurances to have 100% control of all player recruitment and budgets for the coming summer and winter transfer windows.

Rafa Benitez – Newcatsle manager

It’s now exactly two weeks since we were officially relegated so we look forward to having Rafa at the club for at least the next three years and his goal is to bring a sleeping giant called Newcastle United back to life.

Rafa is on record as saying that he wants to win trophies at Newcastle and since it’s been 47 years since we last won a trophy – the Inter-City Fairs Cup back in 1969 – another trophy soon for the famous Newcatsle club would be fantastic.

We hope the press conference is long enough to give Rafa an opportunity to lay out his future vision for the club and some of the things he will be doing as he prepares for life in the Championship – hopefully just one seoasn before we back with the big boys in the Premier League.

Here are the various items in the agreement.

  1. Full control of all transfers into and out of the club
  2. Significant transfer funds to enable the building of a very good squad quickly
  3. A complete overhaul of the Youth Academy
  4. Significant upgrading of the Benton Training Facilities
  5. Control of the medical department
  6. Control of all scouting and recruitment activities

Comments welcome.

A proper manager and plan in place well before pre-season.

    A lesson has been learnt.

I wonder if it will be fully revealed what the concessions are to Benitez and also any new structures involving the board members.
After he is confirmed I think we’ll see more action on the player front – departees initially.

“It’s expected that this will be the end of Graham Carr’s time at Newcastle as well. Benitez wanted assurances and he’s got them.”

And who says he wouldn’t come?

Shot in the foot comes to mind!

  • 9 davetoon // May 25, 2016 at 12:06 PM

I must admit that I never thought it would happen so big ups to all those involved.

Maybe the picnic is at the bottom of the hill?

If this is true, and it looks very very promising now, then this could be the start of something very exciting for newcastle.

unlike basically all managers since Bobby Robson, I haven’t felt truly excited about a manager, but benitez excites me. The way he instilled quality in a poor squad over the last few weeks has been admirable. And, the terms of him signing his contract act as the catalyst for change- a concession by the hierarchy that their ridiculous managerial ways are flawed. He could be the transition to significant upturn in fortune for this club!

  • 12 NezzaNUFC // May 25, 2016 at 12:07 PM

Newcastle have HUGE potential compare to a lot of other clubs and Rafa knows this as it is shown.

And who was it that said I was deluded and know nothing about football because I stated that Rafa would stay regardless if we stayed up or down?

I’ll keep the name(s) to myself for the moment since it’s going to be the greatest month(s) to come.

  • 13 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // May 25, 2016 at 12:09 PM

    I think i might have came 😮

  • 14 Bobbybee // May 25, 2016 at 12:10 PM

So, all those who stated catagorically – and oft repeated – that Rafa would definitely not stay – WHOOPS!!! 😉 Jobs a goodun and the Toon Army marches forward. What a great day to be a fan of this great old club. I imagine we’ll sell more ST’s than we did for last season. 😉

Maybe the footballing gods will give us a break this season if we’re doing things the correct way, a new club ethos and a man with the ability to carry it off, a new direction and a new attitude ,make the club as good as it can be, give it the best chance to succeed, part one done, keep the players who are willing and able to push us on, recruit well and get rid of the ones who don’t want to be on the good ship Rafalution.
Tighten your britches ladies and gentlemen………there’s a storm coming to the championship and its gonna be explosive

Name and shame, because i am damn sure they would.

  • 17 Jail for Ashley // May 25, 2016 at 12:11 PM

Queue bills son to come on and tell us how gutted the Ashley out crew/mob/rabble will be that we’ve got a top manager and a bit of hope for the future.

  • 18 lochinvar // May 25, 2016 at 12:12 PM

Just hope there’s no delays because they forgot to give Rafa power to appoint the new Tea Lady.

  • 19 NezzaNUFC // May 25, 2016 at 12:12 PM

I can imagine the scums faces when they hear Rafa is staying lol

Who’s got the last laugh now eh!

  • 20 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // May 25, 2016 at 12:15 PM

Yeah, because this makes everyone who is against ashley wrong, and it suddenly makes ashley our saviour. It’s like when a catholic gangster repents on his death bed and suddenly all the killing doesn’t matter!

  • 21 Ibizatoon // May 25, 2016 at 12:15 PM

Come on guys, we’re still waiting for official announcement and already people are having a dig at those who didn’t think he would stay.

This is good news. Let’s enjoy it.

It’s not like people said they didn’t want him to stay, just that they didn’t think he would.

  • 22 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // May 25, 2016 at 12:17 PM

Does Charnley STILL have control of the biscuits!?!?!?

  • 23 JP...from The Rock // May 25, 2016 at 12:17 PM

Oh my word it’s actually happening today! Yesss!! I never thought I’ll say this but I am gonna look forward to seeing us in the Championship. Happy days! 🙂

  • 24 andrew84 // May 25, 2016 at 12:17 PM

Have to say….thanks Ashley & Charnley. Didn’t think you would pull it off but credit has to be given where it’s due.

Biggest thanks of all to Rafa though 🙂

  • 25 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // May 25, 2016 at 12:18 PM

Its the ones calling others deluded for saying rafa might stay. You have to accept there will be a little bit of ‘told you so ism’

  • 26 Jail for Ashley // May 25, 2016 at 12:19 PM

Are we about to see an avalanche of gloaters because Rafa has signed. I hope they’re not the same gloaters that said fcuk all while Ashleys stewardship guided us through humiliating defeat after defeat.

  • 27 Bobbybee // May 25, 2016 at 12:20 PM

We’ve all rightly had plenty to say about Ashley over the years, but finally he’s got something right. It’s taken plenty of pain and time to get it right, but by george, i think he’s got it! 😉 He’s accepted he got it wrong in the past and has now laid the foundations to rebuild the club from the bottom up. Although this won’t repair all the damage, just a quietly whispered ‘well done mike, you finally got there’ might be in order. BUZZIN’ 😉

  • 28 giimps // May 25, 2016 at 12:21 PM

i wonder who he’s decided to keep and who wants to leave, I can’t imagine any of the squad not wanting to play for Rafa, after all they’ll be getting the same money but playing winning football and will be on a roller coaster.
I would imagine Rafa has done his homework and decided on a main formation and the players he needs for each position…….imagine that……preparation and not stabs in the dark on Players who might increase in value……players who fit into the formation, the best players available……..its gonna be mint

  • 29 Munster Mag // May 25, 2016 at 12:21 PM

Bobby and fellow Geordie mates , I am so happy. This is a great day , a proper manager at last. WELL DONE MIKEY BOY!

  • 30 Ibizatoon // May 25, 2016 at 12:22 PM

YCMIU…I accept it. I would have hoped that with this confirmation, it might be a chance for some to be the bigger men (or women) and just enjoy this good news.

Given the clubs track record, I find it hard to criticise folk for being skeptical. However, there was no need to call anyone deluded for thinking he would stay either. The deal was there on the table.

Thankfully it looks to have gone well. At last, a chance of hope.
