This Defender Not Coming To Newcastle

We were really hoping that Newcastle could sign former 31 year-old Liverpool defender Daniel Agger, who will be a free agent this summer, but a report in Italy says he is going to join AC Milan.

Tuttosport are reporting that Milan officials have contacted Agger’s reps with a view to signing the free agent in the summer, and he will get a fairly hefty pay rise on what he’s been getting over the last two years at Bondby in Denmark.

Daniel Agger – report he’s off to AC Milan

Agger was signed for £6M by Rafa Benitez for Liverpool in January, 2006  from Bondby – at that time it was the record transfer for a Danish player.

Agger stayed on Merseyside for eight and a half years before moving back to Bondby two years ago, but now it looks like he’s taking a step back up in class – with AC Milan and presumably not with Newcastle.

Agger played 232 times for Liverpool with 14 goals and he is currently the captain of Denmark with 71 appearances and 12 goals.

On the personal side of things Daniel is trying to help children in need and he launched The Agger Foundation back in 2012.

That’s good for him – and very good for the children he is helping!

But we probably need to cross Daniel off the list – looks like he’s not coming.

Comments welcome.

Rafa or not we might have to accept that we’re a Championship club and that some players won’t accept a year in the second tier and that’s why I’m always changing my mind or at least unsure of what our priority positionso are.

Maybe we could convert Charlie Austin into a Championship Centre Back.
Cos he certainly ain’t a PL striker !

Driving obligations completed. BDM, i’m of the club before country camp myself and having lost two keepers to injury this season, whilst playing for their country, it would be a shame if it continued. It would’ve been nice to see Andros flying down the wings for England, but i won’t lose any sleep over the fact that he won’t be. For me personally it is, and always will be, Newcastle first, England second.

very true but if we dont try we dont get and rafa is a man we have to put all our faith in imo as he’s a far better manager than we deserve atm.

looking forward to the new season tbh but keeping a close eye on townsend/wijnaldum/sissoko/krul and janmaat situations.

and it’s great mbabu is signed for 2 more years just need rola to commit and get his chance and the same with arma.

We should find out soon if Rafa is genuinely interested in McCormack, or whether it is just paper talk. He has virtually sent out a come and get me to Rafa by saying he sees Newcastle as a way to PL football, ahead of Fulham. See how that develops.
