West Ham, Everton and Inter Milan are reported to be interested in signing 22 year-old Newcastle forward Ayoze Perez, who we brought in from Tenerife two years ago for €2M (£1.54M using today’s exchange rate).
We would be very surprised if Ayoze would want to leave Newcastle, now that his Spanish compatriot Rafa Benitez is the Newcastle manager for the next three years.
Rafa Benitez talks to compatriot Ayoze Perez
But if Newcastle are to sell they want a reported £15M for him, which was the price on his head last summer when Spurs were reported to make a late bid for him last August.
The Spanish U21 international has already played 71 times with 13 goals for Newcastle and he is highly thought of at the club – and Rafa Benitez is now expected to get the very best out of him.
Unfortunately these stories regarding Newcastle players being wanted in the transfer market will go on until September, and we think if a club comes in with a stupidly high bid, then Rafa could sell one of the players.
That club could well be a Premier League club who will be flush with cash in the next financial year starting July 1st.
The new three year TV deal starts this summer and will give PL clubs anywhere between £100M and £180M next May – depending on how well they do next season.
If Rafa does sell, he will be given that transfer money to invest in the squad, either in the summer or in January.
Newcastle do not need to sell any players for financial reasons this summer, given our financial stability, so if we do sell we will want a really good deal or the club wont bother.
Also, Rafa will want to keep all the (good) players he wants to keep – and the transfer fees on those particular players will be suitably very high.
