The Mail is reporting that Newcastle are interested in bringing 19 year-old West Ham defender Reece Burke to Tyneside this summer.
The defender is out of contract with West Ham in the summer and there appears to be a number of clubs interested in him other than Newcastle – and they include Southampton, Leicester and Manchester City.
The Mail report is that it is Newcastle who are the keenest club to sign him, although West Ham are said to rate the England U19 International highly.
Reece Burke – 19 year-old England U20 International
West Ham seem to be hesitating on giving the 6’3″ tall youngster a new deal – and he will have a difficult task of breaking into the West Ham first team.
Newcastle are looking for some good young center-backs with Steven Taylor having just been released today and Fabricio Coloccini almost certain to leave the club this summer too.
So the 19 year-old may see Newcastle as a good club to join where he will get first team opportunities, especially with Rafa Benitez as the new manager.
While center-back is Reece’s main position he can also play at right back.
Rafa is building a new team at Newcastle in the hope that we get straight back up to the Premier League this season, after our disastrous campaign last term that saw us go down after spending a cool £80M in the transfer market.
Burke played 36 times with two goals during a loan spell at Bradford City this past season and he was voted the club’s Player of the Year, so outstanding was he during the season.
He has played for England at the U18, U19 and U20 levels and turns 20 in September.
The 19 year-old has made 10 appearances for the West Ham first team and he looks like an excellent signing for Newcastle – if we can get the lad to Tyneside.
What do you think?

Comment #3Anyone else notice the article about Sep blatter and his cronies profiting by £55m over 5 years…….I’m shocked, I never thought in a million years mr blaster was corrupt, I mean, how could this happen in such a huge organisation…….anyone would think they were self governing ………who’d have thought?

Comment #5These 19 year olds are good for the future, thought we were done with that. Right now we need gritty experience.
Look at what those Portuguese geysers, Alves and Carvalho (combined age 71), did to the young England prospects. They ruled them, for most all of the game, despite the fact that there was just one left after about 35’….

Comment #6Our toon….. I have to agree with you on Mitro. The lad is still coming to terms with English football and is trying too hard to impress. Putting himself under pressure is obviously causing him to snatch at some of his goal scoring opportunities. In my opinion he has more qualities than inadequacies and is always fully commited, sometimes overly so.
He is still young enough to improve and a season in the Championship with plenty of goals under his belt, can only serve to boost his confidence and maturity.
The fact that Rotonda has condemned him as not fit for purpose can only be a positive and will work in his favour as Rotonda’s judgement and predictions on all footballing matters are more often than not proved wrong.

have to agree about experience ..if collo goes it leaves a very young defence …need an experienced dominant left sided centre back …any ideas….it seems like a very young squad that need captain/motivator cannot see one in squad colback seems likely as tiote/siem/shelvey have issues and sissoko and winal may not be there…hope to see rafa the gaffa ideas thru signings

We probably need more experience at the back, however I do think Lascelles and Mbemba will just get better and better so wouldn’t mind sticking with them as the cb pairing with a couple of new cbs brought in as competition/cover.

Totally agree, if your good enough your old enough, both Lascellas and Mbemba in my eyes are good enough for the PL, all they lack is experience, especially Lascellas, so a full season with them as first choice pairing would give them that experience.

Comment #11I see that Ashley has pulled out of the meeting with MP’s, he’s playing a dangerous game, if he continues they could do an investigation and deem him inappropriate to run a business, he could very easily lose Sports direct and us !!!!!

I don’t have hatred for Mitro, that’s a very strong and emotive word. It’s just I would prefer to see Arma, as he is fast, mobile and skilful and knows where the net is, plus he is not likely to attract however many red cards Mitro has already picked up.
I was a Perez fan but admit he has gone off the ball last season. At least I have the ability to recognise these things. If only I had Betty’s inate talent spotting abilities where no one ever played or managed poorly, ever!

Comment #19Rotonda……… There are many on here who have high hopes for Arma and now that you have given him your blessing that would appear to have put the kibosh on him. I hope he doesn’t read your post and realise he has been Rotondaed. Only teasing lol.

A passing thought
I wonder how many BHS employees would take one of Mike Ashley’s wicked zero hour contracts this morning ?
Ashley gets summonsed before Parliament and Sir Philip Green is blithely unmolested and left to his own devices.
Well done you MP’s !!!
JIB, you are clearly a political know nowt. Green has been summoned to appear before two committees by Parliament, as has his wife and Chappell, and like Ashley, all have resisted.
Please don’t make political comments on this blog – your views are as repulsive as many of your other opinions.

Comment #24arbeloa would be a great signing. His experience would be valuable for our younger defenders, not to mention his winning mentality. could even be captain material.

Comment #26I wonder where these stories come from? As far as i was aware, Rafa said he’s not going to discuss transfers until he knows who is staying, which makes total sense. Yet again we’ll be conected with every player and his dog between now and the end of August. Gonna be a long summer. 😉

Comment #27Graeme, nice link, but how true is it? Would be just what we need like, a steadying hand at the back for the younger lads. Ideal. Actually sounds like it might be true, but it might well be just another rumour. In this case, let’s hope it is for real. 😉

Comment #28A month or so ago, at the height of the Gallowgate Witch Trials here on the blog much opprobriousness was directed at Taylor – understandable, given our predicament. I wrote, and I quote:
“A couple of those appearing on posters’ shit lists deserve some recognition for being faithful servants of the Club, namely, Coloccini and Taylor.
Their failure to become standard bearers to our cause this season shouldn’t warp memories of their contribution over the years. Getting old, getting crocked, must affect what they’ve been able to offer lately.
I’m reluctant to heap them with the rest of the discarded wet-wipes but I agree with most here that their time is up; but let’s not jeer too loudly.”
Now that Taylor’s been demobbed feelings on here are beginning to mellow towards the fella, there’s even talk of a testimonial. I’d support that.

Comment #29He’s earned a testimonial, I don’t see why he shouldn’t get one. 13 years at one club ain’t to be sniffed at and his favourite charity will benefit from it. I’d buy a ticket myself.
