While Crystal Palace are reported to be interested in Newcastle goalkeeper Tim Krul, it’s unlikely that Tim will be fit enough before the start of the season and it would be difficult for Newcastle to sell an injured player, before September rolls around.
It’s true that Newcastle are well off for goalkeepers at the moment, with Tim Krul, Rob Elliot, Karl Darlow and 19 year-old Freddie Woodman all looking very good, but it’s up to Rafa Benitez to decide which one of them will be his number one goalkeeper for next season.
And he will not be able to do that until they are all fit and playing and Rob Elliot will not be ready to play until near the end of this year.
Tim Krul – unlikely to be sold this summer
Both Tim and Rob are recovering from serious ACL knee injuries they picked up in International games last season.
With Tim’s contract running out in a year’s time, we would expect that Tim gets a new deal at Newcastle and if he is then sold in the future then Newcastle will get the top price for him.
Maybe that’s not until January when both Rob and Tim are fit that Rafa can decide who – if anybody – he wants to sell or send out on loan.
It looks like Karl Darlow and Freddie Woodman will be the two goalkeepers fit enough to start in the Championship in early August – and they will continue where they left off in the Premier League with young Freddie on the bench.
But Woodman really needs to be sent out on loan for next season to get some first team games, so it will depend a lot on when Tim is fit as to what exactly happens with the goalkeepers.
Tim also shows no sign of wanting to leave the club he has been with for 11 years since he signed on as a 17 year old from ADO Den Haag in 2005
After the final game of last season when we trounced Spurs 5-1 at home this is what Tim tweeted:
— Tim Krul (@TimKrul) May 16, 2016
It seems to us that Tim wants to be part of the Rafa revolution at Newcastle – and who could blame him for that?
Newcastle fans still think Tim is Newcastle’s best goalkeeper.
What do you think?
