Are Newcastle Really After This Reported Transfer Target?

8:52 am, Sunday, June 5th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 3 Comments

Newcastle United, Hull City, Norwich City and Bristol City are clubs said to be interested in signing Bournemouth’s Lee Tomlin in the summer transfer window,  and yet Lee couldn’t get his game at Bournemouth last season.

Tomlin signed for Bournemouth last August from Middlesbrough on a three-year deal for a fee of around £3.5M and played only 10 times for the Cherries before being shipped out on loan to Championship club Bristol City in January,  who now want to make the deal permanent.

City are said to be in initial talks with Tomlin about a deal, but a player who has spent his career in the lower leagues and couldn’t make it at Bournemouth doesn’t seems to be the type of player Newcastle should be looking at this summer.

The former Middlesbrough player is certainly versatile and can play as a striker, winger or attacking midfielder and he scored 6 goals in 18 appearances for the Robins while on loan this year.

Maybe Tomlin is just  a made up target for Newcastle this summer?

We would be very surprised if Newcastle are really interested in this 27 year-old forward.

Why would we be interested, especially with Rafa Benitez in charge of all transfers?

Comments welcome.

Rafa loves utility players whom he thinks he can improve.

An integral part of Liverpool’s drive to Istanbul was just such a player – who is hardly given a mention now – Luis Garcia – he was a player who played less than 80 games in England and was at a dozen different clubs but Benitez got some great performances out of him.

Can’t say am the sold on Tomlin surely Hughes is the better target (more expensive yes but as I said previously we should be getting our top targets)
