Youngster Has One Year To Prove Himself At Newcastle

1:30 pm, Tuesday, June 7th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 41 Comments

Rolando Aarons has had lots of injury problems over the last two years and that has prevented the lad from developing because in those two years he’s played only 17 times for the side with three goals, including a terrific goal in the final game of the season – the 5-1 hammering of Tottenham at St. James’ Park.

Rolando’s contract runs out at the end of this month, but the club has picked up the one year option on it so his current contract has just one year to run.

Rolando Aarons scored brilliant goal against Spurs

Rolando was superb in the 2014 pre-season when he looked terrific out on the left wing, but injuries have curtailed his appearances.

Injuries are a big problem at Newcastle, but Rafa did give a two year extension to Kevin Mbabu, who has also been out with injury a lot in the three and a half years he’s been at the club.

We know Rolando has been good in training because Rafa had him on the bench a few times and he puts players on the bench who have impressed in that week’s training.

His late appearance against Tottenham when he looked on fire and scored one and made one will have done him no damage at all.

After scoring a brilliant goal, within a minute he had ran almost the length of the field in a quick breakaway to brilliantly set up Daryl Janmaat for our 5th goal of the game.

Rafa will introduce new procedures during the pre-season in an attempt to cut down on all the injuries the Newcastle players keep picking up – so we hope Rolando can stay fit.

If he can, then he has a great chance to show his skills and earn a long term deal at Newcastle under Rafa Benitez.

That’s what he will be hoping for next season.

Comments welcome.

    Ashley Out!

    From the beeb-

“Shares in Sports Direct have fallen 45% in the past 12 months amid falling sales and a barrage of negative publicity.”

Sooooo…it seems that negative publicity DOES have an effect, then.

  • 2 clinath@ed // Jun 7, 2016 at 1:46 PM

AC…agree on the disloyalty issue, though they are all mercenaries to me nowadays, it’s the fact he actively(?) contributed to last seasons debacle and now wants to Jump ship, claiming he’s too good!!!
Like everyone is saying, get the right price then get rid.

“Unite officers said there had been 110 ambulance callouts to the warehouse, including 38 times when workers had complained of chest pains. Five ambulances have been called to Sports Direct’s warehouse in birth and miscarriage related matters, including one worker who gave birth in the toilets.

MPs also heard that some staff were paid through a pre-paid card. Staff are charged £10 to get a card, plus a £10-a-month management fee, 75p to use it at an ATM machine, and 10p when they get a text message confirming they have used it.”

This is an absolute outrage. We cannot condone this behaviour in any way in our society. we must continue to protest, since we NUFC fans are the most visible in the media.

    Disgraceful shyster

Regarding this guy I’d like to know more about the nature of his common injuries. Is it bad luck or what? A Dyer or a Taylor, especially for one that young is bad business, despite any talent…

we have to sell Sissoko, Cisse, Collocini and bring players that want to be here and want to fight for the team. Sissoko is nothing special, good athlete, but that is all, he isn´t going to get goals or create chances or making tackles….get rid of him and bring someone with creativity and goalscoring midfielder…if Gini want to stay here, give him no 10 role behind Mitrovic….give another chance to Thauvin and try to bring some good players like Redmond….ideally sell Sissoko and use that money for Redmond…
    janmaat,mbemba,lascelles,haidara
    …………..tiote……..colback………….
    townsend….wijnaldum……redmond
    ……………….mitrovic…………………….
that would be my team with pace, power and brain….

    Agreed. Get rid.

The ridiculous club policy of telling players that they can use us as a stepping stone and be in the shop window of the premiership then move on to bigger and better things, coupled with the equally ridiculous purples policy allows for the attitude of the just don’t give a fcuk players we now have.

It still shouldn’t be plastered everywhere. Every 6 months or so. That’s my gripe.

I love you champions league. I love you arsenal.

    Keep dreaming moussa, keep dreaming.

They blokes a mountain yet acts like a fcuking lump. Of the genital variety.

Tell Arsenal to pay £30m for him, it wouldn’t surprise me if they haven’t been stirring it up with his agent already.

As for Armstrong of course we have to play him next season, pointless having him on the books if we keep sending him out on loan ’till he is ready’.

Whilst O totally agree with your sentiments on Sissoko, I think you need to borrow one of my trees, before that vein in your forehead explodes 😀

Ashley getting slaughtered on sky after his Q&A in london today , however one thing is very clear, he runs NUFC in thesame way he runs SD, he hasnt a clue what is going on in either of them – and i do believe that now

  • 11 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Jun 7, 2016 at 2:49 PM

    Stuart

He promotes from within, and ends up with clusterfcuks and dodgy characters running things. He seemed as if he didn’t know the half of what goes on. Was disgusted (i dont think he is that good an actor) about the sexual harrasment/predatory that had been going on. He needs to restructure hos business instantly or others are going to continue suffering.

Though it is nice to see a poster having a rant against the disloyalty of someone who did contribute towards our relegation, rather than ranting against people who didn’t.

  • 13 estechco // Jun 7, 2016 at 2:59 PM

Can I urge anyone who hasn’t seen this mornings interview with MA and the parliamentary panel to seek it out?

It makes for the most fantastically compelling viewing and explains so much about the last few years of grief at our club.

Although he comes across as strangely likable on one level, you also wouldn’t want him to manage your pub darts team on every other.

    …compulsive viewing!

  • 14 Munster Mag // Jun 7, 2016 at 3:00 PM

I would rather have seen rafa be more decisive here and put sissoko on the transfer list. He was never going to get a tune from moussa consistently in the championship. Poor player too, technically weak, poor tackler. why rafa was sticking him on the left was beyond me but it didnt work as i said at the time. Get rid and spend the money.

  • 15 Very Terry // Jun 7, 2016 at 3:03 PM

    Sissoko out

  • 16 Munster Mag // Jun 7, 2016 at 3:03 PM

I went to sleep the other night and didn’t see your reply until the morning then forgot to reply myself.

Basically I dropped a bomb then fcuked off lol.

All is well mate thanks for asking.

    How about you.

    On the vein throb.

The only thing I’m suffering from is heat exhaustion. Running around with the kids while the’re off. Not good.

Although I’ll concede he alone boils my pish the fcuking shithead.

  • 18 stuart no9 // Jun 7, 2016 at 3:08 PM

YCMU— Exactly , he has 2 very profitable business on the go , however they are both going tits up or gone tits up coz he never knew or dosnt know how to manage them SD as he says is probably to big for him now , he might need to sell before it totally goes tits up and loses the lot- somethin g to think about if i was him.
NUFC ? well we all kmow what went wrong there .
He just always seems to get the wrong people in the wrong jobs . silly man

  • 19 WWSBRD // Jun 7, 2016 at 3:21 PM

Haha Sissoko man haha bless his cotton socks where does he think he will fit at Arsenal haha

Good luck to the big numpty where ever he ends up

Aye, like i say, i agree with the sentiments, but wouldn’t want regular posters doing themselves an injury because of disloyal want-aways 😀

    A_C

I’m good, thanks. Early finish but paid for full hours so cant complain…. hopefully i can get my move to arsenal and the champions league soon 😛

    Stuart.

Well,he has promised to sort it out, starting with the most serious stuff. Lets see what kind of effort he makes. I think he has had a bit of a nasty shock. Serves him right in a way.

    The laundry room, maybe?

  • 22 Lee Charnley Bunga Party // Jun 7, 2016 at 3:26 PM

He would just be a bench player at West Ham or Arsenal and the only position would be on the right wing as he is nowhere near good enough to run the midfield !

Whats the bets he ends up at Palace or Stoke by the time the window closes ?

Haha aw bless him I don’t think he’s the sharpest tool in the shed and someone’s been in his ear haven’t they? Haha

Tbf I’d still keep him if given the choice because he’d get us back up but Arsenal man haha

  • 24 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Jun 7, 2016 at 3:29 PM

    Wws

If he remotely wanted to stay then yes but he just so clearly has no intention of kicking a single ball in the championship. Arsenal, though, yeah its both infuriating and hillarious at the same time

  • 25 Our Toon // Jun 7, 2016 at 3:36 PM

Interesting reading the articles today, Sissoko wants away….why would he want to stay? Unlike some people on here I won’t lose my mind over his latest come and get me please, I do have a question for those kicking off though:

Townsend recently joined up with England and Woy gave him assurances that he would still consider the player even if he played in the championship, don’t know why Woy would give such an assurance especially considering he’ll be out of a job after the euros. We’ve also offered townsend an extra 25k to try to keep him. Yet not one person kicks off about any of this, if Woy said no townsend would have left by now.

Sissoko has clearly been told if he plays in the championship he won’t get picked for the national team, he’s wanted to go for some time so let him go, reinvest the money but let’s have a little class about ourselves rather than the way we are behaving now.

Anyone who leaves I wish good luck to, they were lied to when they joined us as each player talks of the ambitious plans we have as a club, stepping stone etc.

  • 26 Spoof // Jun 7, 2016 at 3:39 PM

Rafa made him captain so he obviously rates him very highly, Rafa is in total control over who stays and who goes and if other clubs rate Sissoko as lowly as so many on here do then never in a million years will Rafa get what he feels is a reasonable offer for a player who he rates so highly.

This club has been a joke for far too long, hopefully with Rafa we will be a serious club again, and Sissoko is a very good player but not consistent enough, if Rafa can instil the necessary discipline to get the consistency from him then selling him would be crazy, even for £20m as that amount of money would never get a player of his potential, I hope Rafa stands firm and forces him to stay and then gets the best out of him on a consistent basis, if that happens then we have a monster of a player.

Tbh I am over my anger towards Sissoko these days but ur probably right Ged only be a distraction in the Championship. Not sure Rafa will be impressed with his interview though might get a shock when the euros are over

  • 28 Essex Geordie Bill // Jun 7, 2016 at 3:46 PM

How about a poll Ed, will he stay or will he go. Andross that is not Sissoko, I don’t think anyone is bothered about him.

  • 29 Essex Geordie Bill // Jun 7, 2016 at 3:48 PM

And as for Rolando, I think he will more the prove himself, providing he isn’t plagued by injuries.

  • 30 Bobbybee // Jun 7, 2016 at 4:00 PM

Not exactly news about Sissoko is it? He’s been agitating for a move for two seasons. We might’ve stayed up if we’d given him his wish. Clearly the dressing room is a happier place since Rafa arrived and we can do without him spoiling it. Just sell him and watch him fail, like so many others before him. If he does go on to be a success then good luck to him. I just can’t see it myself. Either way, he needs to go before he upsets the happy camp. We’re guaranteed to make a profit on him.

  • 31 Bobbybee // Jun 7, 2016 at 4:10 PM

Why would we kick off about Townsend? He wants to stay and we want him to stay. If Rafa has offered him a pay rise, that’s their business, not ours. Nowhere does it say Townsend demanded 20k to stay. It has zero effect on us, the fans, how much he earns. Someone has to be top earner and unlike Collo, Andros is worth it. To remove the get out clause a new contract had to be written up and that’s included a pay rise to sweeten the deal. Don’t see acproblem myself.

  • 32 Hail Wor Ashley // Jun 7, 2016 at 4:13 PM

Well Townsend is one of few who you could say earned their pay rise. If it is a rise of £20-25k from £50k then it’s about what I thought he were already on anyway.

  • 33 WWSBRD // Jun 7, 2016 at 4:22 PM

Townsend has said he wants to stay?

  • 34 JAMSHA // Jun 7, 2016 at 4:25 PM

idf sissoko wants to go let him go, overrated, has 1 good game out of 10, take 15 mil an invest on redmond, hughes

  • 35 geordie157 // Jun 7, 2016 at 4:25 PM

Sissoko can go, plus we’ll make sure we get good money for him as we have made it clear we don’t need to sell.

I think janmaat can go to, his attitude at times when we were up against it or a winger was running circles round him so he thought best to get sent off was shocking.

We need more lascelles type players who show passion for wearing the shirt. To be fair mbemba keeps a low profile.

  • 36 Our Toon // Jun 7, 2016 at 4:29 PM

    Bobby

Townsend signing a new contract won’t remove the buyout clause, it will just increase it. If townsend wants to stay then he should do so without a new deal unless he’s happy with removing his buyout clause which he clearly isn’t. We don’t know what townsend thinks because he’s not as vocal as one or two of the others have been. Time will tell won’t it

Let me get this right though, if a player wants to leave he’s a mercenary, if a player stays for more money he’s deserved it? I just don’t get it with fans.

As for highest earner I believe shelvey is quoted to be on 80k

  • 37 Bobbybee // Jun 7, 2016 at 4:30 PM

WWSBRD, according to several reports he’s been offered a 20k rise, taking him to 75g a week. Palace have allegedly offered him 80g so we needed to up the ante. Reports are saying he’s agreed to stay.

  • 38 Our Toon // Jun 7, 2016 at 4:30 PM

    Geordie 157

Agreed mate they both should leave but we need to desperately improve the defence

  • 39 Bobbybee // Jun 7, 2016 at 4:32 PM

Our toon, the whole purpose of new contracts is to change the terms of the old one. That would include the removal of the sell out clause or what would be the point.

  • 40 Our Toon // Jun 7, 2016 at 4:33 PM

    Wwsbrd

Townsend hasn’t said anything, we’ve tried to cover our asses by offering him more money (apparently) as palace are interested. I don’t know where the he’s happy to stay comes from though

  • 41 Our Toon // Jun 7, 2016 at 4:39 PM

    Bobby bee

I know about contracts mate and yhe purpose of them, I’m also not nowhere near naive enough to believe a contract between a player and a club is actually worth something, these contracts these days mean sweet FA. The supposed new proposed contract that’s been offered has increased the buyout clause not removed it, thats my understanding of it
