Here’s Why Newcastle Will Try To Do Transfer Deals Early

The news today in L’Equipe is that Hamburg SV had bid around £9.6M for Moussa Sissoko and there have been later reports in some outlets that Newcastle have told the German club to up their bid by £2M to £3M and it’s a deal.

Where that later report has its origins from we have no idea, but the Chronicle is reporting today it’s their understanding there has been no contact with Newcastle from any club for Moussa Sissoko so far this summer.

That includes Hamburg SV.

Rafa Benitez – wants players in and out early

There have been enquiries for other players, but they do not include Moussa – who still has that burning desire to play for a top Champions League club like Arsenal – for instance.

His view is a world-class player should be playing Champions League football every season.

One of the problems Newcastle may have this summer is that with the Euros going on until July 10th, there will not be many players leaving the club early.

If some of our top players do leave, it’s likely to be in August and possibly late August at that.

One problem is if we do sell late in August there may not be time to bring in new players, which Rafa Benitez would insist on.

So in order not to get into that situation, Rafa will only accept offers for his top players if he can replace them this summer.

That hasn’t always been the case in the past, when money was king – but now the squad is king with Rafa in charge.

So if a deal for Sissoko, Wijnaldum or Janmaat is to happen this summer, presumably it will have to be in time for Rafa to bring in a replacement for the player leaving.

For players coming into the club, it looks like Rafa wants them in early and we’d be surprised if we haven’t signed our first new arrival by the time pre-season training starts in a couple of weeks time.

What do you think?

I’ve hesitated posting this because it seems too far-fetched but several recent links between Nico Gaitán of Benfica / Argentina and Rafa.

It could be old stuff from early last season when he was managing Real Madrid – just being regurgitated.

There’s a risk we might be stuck with those keen to get out, but we should get replacements in for Gini, Sissoko, Thauvin, Cabella and Janmaat before pre-season.

Are your Spanish Journo friends not around to clarify the situation?

Maybe a couple of glasses grappa might just help loosen their tongues?

Whilst checking out that Russian Ultra site yesterday I noted there was an image of an Englishman under the heading English Twitter Hooligan.
Reckon the Ultras must have compromised UK football blogs and discovered the picture . I reckon it must be Ian Toon/Carl/Jack Root. It was as I have always imagined him/them.

Anyone like to see kick-off countdowns at SJB
    as in the Euros?

Charlie in the Gallowgate – nah, not for me. I’ve been back to SJP only twice since I moved to the States in 2008 and hearing the theme from Local Hero right before kick-off still sent tingles down my spine. A Euro style countdown just wouldn’t be the same for me personally, but others will probably disagree!

There’s another link for those in doubt about clubs being able to sign players before July 1st. That’s the last one, I promise.

jazzyp – do you mean we haven’t made any concrete offers? Or that we haven’t received any? And how do you know for sure that neither of those things have actually happened? All sorts of contact could be happening between clubs via fax, phone or email that we have no idea about.

    Wrong again Lesh.

Getting a bit tedious this is.

    Well done Jail

Grappa is now a protected name in the European Union. To be called grappa, the following criteria must be met:
Produced in Italy, or in the Italian part of Switzerland, or in San Marino.

There is a version of Grappa in Spain called Orujo – it’s much cheaper, stronger, and better tasting.

£20 m each for Moussa and Gini from European based clubs – that has to be good business. If the Premier League clubs want then it will cost them more by our valuations because of the TV money.
Wonder what the players are thinking ?

Phil McNulty, BBC Sport’s chief football writer: – on Koeman

“Moshiri wanted to make an appointment that would demonstrate the scale of his plans for Everton and Koeman fitted the bill …….
…… there is now a “northern powerhouse” of managers within 40 miles of each other with Koeman at Everton, Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, Pep Guardiola at Manchester City and Jose Mourinho at Manchester United.”

And Rafa breathing down their necks from 100 miles further north !

Current market value of Shane Ferguson: 750K euros. Worth 1.5M euros in 2013. A decent left side utility player but probably not in Rafa’s target list.

It’s a fair point jazzyp. I would say Gouffran played more often but neither were exactly awe inspiring. Gouffy was played out of position quite often by Johnny C. and Steve McMuffin. Hard to say what can be done with either at this point.
