There are reports in Italy that Newcastle have put a price tag of £30M on midfielder Gini Wijnaldum, with both Roma, Naples and Lazio said to be interested in signing the Newcastle midfielder.
Italian journalist Gianluca di Marzio is reporting Newcastle will only part with the player for more than double the price we paid for him last summer – £14.5M – which says to us Rafa wants to keep him at the club.
Newcastle could well get a very good price for Gini this summer, if only because there are also a number of Premier League clubs interested in him.
Gini Wijnaldum – £30M is the price being reported
The English clubs will be flush with cash and could well drive the price up for the player who scored 11 Premier league goals last season for a relegation side that struggled in the league.
So presumably Georginio could do a lot better if he joined a winning side.
We reported yesterday that Roma want Wijnaldum to replace Miralem Pjanic, who is on his way to Juventus and had his medical yesterday.
West Ham, Everton and Southampton are also tracking the midfielder, so if we do get a massive amount for him Newcastle will have to be ready to bring in a replacement.
Money in the bank doesn’t help us – especially for next season – when we must have the strongest side possible in the Championship.
We may not get £30M for the Dutch International, but we should ask a that for him given the manager does not want to lose Gini, who could be a big player for us once we return to the Premier League.
And if we let all our top players leave this summer, we will only have to pay big bucks to get that quality back into the squad next summer.
