West Brom Make Move For Moussa Sissoko

6:34 pm, Wednesday, June 15th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 38 Comments

News today that West Brom seem to fancy their chances of signing wantaway Newcastle midfielder Moussa Sissoko, who at the moment is with the French squad preparing for tonight’s game Albania and Moussa may even get a start for France tonight.

Moussa had made it clear he wants to leave second division Newcastle United and move to Arsenal, but no move from the London club to sign Moussa yet, but West Brom are interested.

The Birmingham Mail today is reporting that West Brom are hoping to take advantage of his desire to remain in the Premier League this summer and give him an option to leave the Magpies.

Moussa Sissoko – West Brom interested

West Brom are not a Champions League club – but it could still be a good option for Moussa – so at least he doesn’t have the indignity of having to play in the second division of English football with Newcastle.

At least he could stay in the Premier League at the The Hawthorns.

Newcastle will not accept anything less than £20M for Sissoko – well to put it more accurately – we hope Newcastle will not sell him for less than £20M.

In truth this may not be a particularly good option from the player’s perspective, since Moussa considers himself world-class or at least very close to it.

Moussa could just wait over the summer for Arsenal, Tottenham,  Manchester City or even Leicester City to come in for him – so he can play Champions League football next season and stay in the Premier League.

He may even accept a bid from Manchester United if they come in for him – even though they are not in the Champions League next season.

If no top Premier League team comes in for him we understand Moussa would even consider a move to Bayern Munich and be prepared play in the Bundesliga and leave England.

We think there’s a 2% chance of anything in the above three paragraphs happening this summer.

But Moussa will think the chances are a lot higher than that.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

I bet Ed enjoyed writing this piece.

  • 5 Jail for Ashley // Jun 15, 2016 at 6:48 PM

Would be absolutely hilarious if the only people who went in for him were WBA, Palace and Stoke or a few mid table German or Portuguese teams.

  • 6 ShirebrookToon // Jun 15, 2016 at 6:49 PM

Really attracting the big clubs now Sissoko. Might be and idea just to keep your gob shut and earn a move to a big club rather than just expect it

  • 7 G // Jun 15, 2016 at 6:52 PM

@3, Berhadino has 12 months left on his WBA contract, worth 5m tops, him and 10-15m would seem fair?

  • 8 Toonmania // Jun 15, 2016 at 6:57 PM

And they calls the fans deluded, didn’t want to play in the Championship this season but maybe he’s happy to the season after eh.
So I wonder where all of these Champions league clubs are that are coming in for him “The beautiful Arsenal” to the slippery West Brom

  • 9 Shadow_Shearer // Jun 15, 2016 at 6:58 PM

Sissoko saying he wants to play champions league, but he’s gonna have to choose between mid table premiership or championship.

  • 10 ToonTiger // Jun 15, 2016 at 7:01 PM

15 & Berahino would be fair but unlikely lol

  • 11 ShirebrookToon // Jun 15, 2016 at 7:04 PM

I’d chuck rivière in for nowt for that deal lol

  • 12 Shadow_Shearer // Jun 15, 2016 at 7:04 PM

Berhahino & sissoko straight swap. No cashed needed. You would think there would be no problems, but sissoko will bring another problem.

This interest doesn’t come out of the blue.

Agents are generally the driving force behind a club thinking they have a chance of a signing.

Sissoko changed his narrative this week from – needing a CL club – to – needing a 1st tier club to maintain his selection for France.

West Brom are still wanting in the region of £20 million for Berhahino due to the fact he was there as a youth player and they have brought him through, not sure haw that actually works but the only way he could leave for free next season was if he moves abroad apparently

  • 16 Jail for Ashley // Jun 15, 2016 at 7:15 PM

The Berhahino claim was a joke mind, there’s no way he’s dropping down a level and will fancy his next wage being a 100K a week which he’d get if he hangs on for a free transfer.

Bet Moussaka can’t wait to move to the outlands of Birmingham in the mistaken believe that it’s a suburb of London and that the Champions League beckons.
Hilarious ( as someone said earlier )

According to L’Equipe NUFC are one of several clubs to enquire about Alexandre Mendy – the young striker from OGC Nice not the old left back at Saarbrucken.

Albania are playing some decent football

  • 21 Back Door Man // Jun 15, 2016 at 9:02 PM

As Ivan wanders the cobbled boulevards in Frogland hunting down fat English blokes to slap UEFA decends into a typically disorderly farce by threatening the chop to Putin’s gang.  They really didn’t think this through … as if these off-duty Spetsnaz goons would retreat back to the Motherland just because their team gets hoyed oot by the rump of Platini’s bagmen.  Even if the team get dumped out on the field of play I suspect the Moscow thugs will remain behind causing mischief and mayhem in town squares across the land.

Woe betide anybody going to the Ruskie World Cup … a country run by nationalistic gangsters.

  • 22 Back Door Man // Jun 15, 2016 at 9:06 PM

think Krul’s positioning in his goal became a bit suspect in the last couple of seasons.  Often he’d be well off his line when crosses came in and would have to furiously ‘back pedal’ to recover;  I can’t recall this bad habit in earlier seasons.  So perhaps it’s time for him to ‘re-educated’ by one of Manuel’s coaches or be shown the door.  I think Darlow was excellent at the arse-end of last season and I’d be more than happy for him to continue as top dog.

I wonder if the bleeding obvious has occurred to Sissoko that he can be the main man under a resurgent Newcastle under Benitez, and that might well be his best bet by some margin.

  • 24 jimmysmith // Jun 15, 2016 at 9:11 PM

try again = ” captaining a resurgent Newcastle under Benitez.?

  • 25 clinath@ed // Jun 15, 2016 at 9:12 PM

Glen Hoddle’s ability to state the bleeding obvious and call it insightful is fkn astounding..

  • 26 jimmysmith // Jun 15, 2016 at 9:12 PM

haha still can’t get it right. pathetic

  • 27 lochinvar // Jun 15, 2016 at 9:19 PM

Sissoko continues to entertain. From tonight’s Express .
Sissoko has also talked up a potential move to Premier League giants Arsenal, who are thought to be long-term admirers of the former Toulouse man.
On Arsenal’s interest, he added: “It is very flattering. Arsenal is one of the best European teams.
“The beautiful Arsenal. We will see. I cannot tell you if I am going to go to Arsenal. For the moment, I am focused on the French national team and the Euros.”
But French publication L’Equipe report both Chelsea and Liverpool are now showing an interest in the France international, who is currently with his country at Euro 2016.
The Sunderland Echo claim Magpies boss Rafa Benitez will hold crunch talks with Sissoko after the tournament, but will demand at least £20million for his services should he still want to leave.

  • 28 jimmysmith // Jun 15, 2016 at 9:20 PM

Krull at 28 is a legit top 8 keeper with many years ahead of him. Darlow and Woodman very capable up and coming understudies. I think it’s Elliot who is most vulnerable should one need to be moved on.

  • 29 ShirebrookToon // Jun 15, 2016 at 9:31 PM

Hoddles comment about Girouds header that hit the post. “If it’s inside of the post its in”. REALLY!!

  • 30 jimmysmith // Jun 15, 2016 at 9:32 PM

It’d be a shame to breakup this group unless entirely necessary. We went into last season shy of a quality manager, and essentially 3 key players, in 3 key positions. We now have the best possible manager, a most improbable manager, and good additions in Townsend, Shelvey, along with very good young players like Mbemba and Mitrovic with a full EPL season under their belts. We still need a striker, a CB, and a LB somewhere along the line, but at it’s core this is a very decent group, under a first class manager.

  • 31 Jail for Ashley // Jun 15, 2016 at 9:32 PM

Somebody agrees with me at last on Krul,
a few on here today happy to start the season with just Darlow and Woodman.

  • 32 zimtoon // Jun 15, 2016 at 9:44 PM

seems like our world class sissoko isnt even getting game time for france

  • 33 jimmysmith // Jun 15, 2016 at 9:45 PM

It’s astonishing though that we can have a squad that includes 4 number tens of the calibre of Sissoko, Widjnaldum, De Jong, and Perez, with Armstrong coming through, and only two left backs of only the calibre of Dummet, who isn’t even a specialist, and Haidarra, who is much more of a wing back. That surely is directly down to Carr, Charnley and the dregs of a woefully inadequate transfer policy. Benitez does of course have some reshaping to do.

  • 34 jimmysmith // Jun 15, 2016 at 10:05 PM

Yes Jail, although he’s not without his shortcomings. “Skinny feet” as Geordie Two pointed out. Very long thin boots, which explains his kicking ha ha. Elliot has an amazing throw on him. I don’t think there’s too much between them on balance, other than Krul having his best years ahead of him, more time and room to improve, and more of the aura of a top keeper about him.

  • 35 Bobbybee // Jun 15, 2016 at 10:09 PM

I can’t believe Krul is even under discussion. How quickly people forget the number of times he’s kept us in games. He’s loyal and classes himself a geordie and has never even hinted he wants to leave, not to my memory anyway. The other two did remarkably well when called upon, but seriously? Better than Krul? Funny old game innit, as Greavsie used to say. 😉

  • 36 jimmysmith // Jun 15, 2016 at 10:28 PM

In light of what’s now going on in Lille, and having already kicked Russia out in principal, if more violence occurred. How don’t they now send them home, and so England too. I’m still a fan of England, despite being an expat of over 40 years, but I wouldn’t mind both being made an example of, so dismal, tiresome and deflating all this has been for so long now.

  • 37 carl // Jun 15, 2016 at 10:56 PM

The best goalkeeping performance I’ve personally seen by a Newcastle goalkeeper was krul’s against Spurs away in season 2013- 2014 where we won 1-0. We were under constant pressure and Krul’s second half performance lives in the memory. Any Toon fan there will remember it.. He is for me our best goalkeeper and hopefully will make a return between the sticks before too long. I hope he will be around for some seasons as the best is still to come.. He can improve his kicking but a strengthening of the defence in front of him will make for a more solid overall unit.

  • 38 TheBoss // Jun 16, 2016 at 9:25 AM

The boy is delusional to even think he is a good player never mind world class. Has no ball control . I said earlier in the season and again the other day he would struggle for game time at Euro’s.. Well that’s 2 games for France & he has managed 2 mins TOTAL.. World class ego , nothing more…
