The Newcastle home shirt for next season was initially leaked on May 23rd – just a week after the Premier League ended.

Here’s a clearer picture of the shirt, which has gold trim and the neck and the sleeves.

kit looks nice same for the away kit it looks nice

  • 3 Very Terry // Jun 16, 2016 at 5:36 PM

    Top one is way better

Woy does something well, that I like to see from a manager. He learns from his SUCCESSFUL ideas, not just mistakes. If something works, he uses it again. It was my biggest complaint about Negadew. On the rare occasion he got something spot on, he still reverted to type in the following game.

Hodgeson is not a spectacular manager, but he is well worth his place at the moment imo. He stuck to the youngsters. Ok, maybe one or two should not be there, but i would suggest the rest are the correct choices. I saw him compared to Pardew in a negative way on here after the russia game, and it sent me over the edge. Such a stupid, spiteful thing to say. He is way better.

I do like the top strip. Cant think why ๐Ÿ˜€

  • 6 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Jun 16, 2016 at 5:51 PM

So,aside from the obvious dropping of stirling, what would be peoples starting line up v slovakia

  • 7 WWSBRD // Jun 16, 2016 at 5:52 PM

I like that strip look forward to the official release wonder how long it will be sporting Wonga on it though

  • 8 ShirebrookToon // Jun 16, 2016 at 5:57 PM

How much is that top one retailing at? I bet it’s cheaper than the one with wonga as they are such a sought after company aren’t they!

  • 9 anthc // Jun 16, 2016 at 6:00 PM

Think the bit black collar spoils it personally. I’m a tight arse anyway so will wait till next season. Just bought last seasons for 15 squid!
45 quid for a shirt that’s not made to last is a rip off. The best shirts we had were the adidas granda style for quality and durability.

  • 10 ShirebrookToon // Jun 16, 2016 at 6:04 PM

Get in!! great goal For NI

  • 11 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Jun 16, 2016 at 6:14 PM

Bloody hell seen the hailstones in Lyon game stopped ref took players off

  • 12 welshgeordie9 // Jun 16, 2016 at 6:28 PM

That was a good match today, England deserved the win, difference between the two sides is that England have got strength in depth, where as we really our best is our first eleven, how sterling got in the squad and not Townsend only mcclaren the 2nd would know, no wonder he didn’t last long with Liverpool.

  • 13 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Jun 16, 2016 at 6:41 PM

    Welsh

I think you’re being a tad unfair to woy. McClaren the 2nd? He is way better than that.

That aside, you’re right, it was a good game. I think a neutral fan would have loved it, without having to deal with the nerves.

  • 14 Blackley and Brownlie // Jun 16, 2016 at 6:48 PM

I said before the game that Kane and Sterling are the weakest links. I stick by it.

  • 15 welshgeordie9 // Jun 16, 2016 at 6:50 PM

I don’t rate hodgson, quality England bench saved his arse today.

  • 16 ShirebrookToon // Jun 16, 2016 at 6:52 PM

    Go on NI 2-0 haha

  • 17 welshgeordie9 // Jun 16, 2016 at 6:52 PM

    Blackley

Totally agree, Kane had another shocker, Deli Ali didn’t do much either.

  • 18 Ron Knee // Jun 16, 2016 at 6:52 PM

    Crazy match!

  • 19 welshgeordie9 // Jun 16, 2016 at 6:53 PM

Well done to Northern Ireland, 2-0 win.

    Bring on Germany.

  • 20 Blackley and Brownlie // Jun 16, 2016 at 6:54 PM

Well done Michael O’Neill. I remember going to Derby where a very skinny O’Neill got our goal in a 2-1 defeat. When would that have been? A bank holiday weekend I think.

  • 21 ShirebrookToon // Jun 16, 2016 at 6:54 PM

Be nice if all the home nations got through to the knock outs

  • 22 welshgeordie9 // Jun 16, 2016 at 6:54 PM

What an excellent tournament so far.

  • 23 welshgeordie9 // Jun 16, 2016 at 6:55 PM

Would be nice all the nations get to the semi finals.

  • 24 Blackley and Brownlie // Jun 16, 2016 at 6:55 PM

    Welsh
I like Deli Ali. Got a bit of quality and attitude about him.

  • 25 ShirebrookToon // Jun 16, 2016 at 6:57 PM

Too right Welsh. Can’t say there’s a team that’s standing out at the minute. All games have been very entertaining

  • 26 welshgeordie9 // Jun 16, 2016 at 6:58 PM

    Blackley

Don’t get me wrong, I think he’s a good player but didn’t see much of it today.

  • 27 ShirebrookToon // Jun 16, 2016 at 6:58 PM

England V Wales final and Ireland v Northern Ireland 3rd place play off lol

  • 28 ShirebrookToon // Jun 16, 2016 at 6:59 PM

I’d say Kyle walker has been the standout player for England so far.

  • 29 ShirebrookToon // Jun 16, 2016 at 7:00 PM

    And Lallana closely behind him

  • 30 welshgeordie9 // Jun 16, 2016 at 7:00 PM

Looking forward to Northern Ireland against Germany, wouldn’t that be great if they beat them.

  • 31 ShirebrookToon // Jun 16, 2016 at 7:02 PM

Germany aren’t all that defensively. So anything can happen!

  • 32 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Jun 16, 2016 at 7:02 PM

    Welsh

So the bench that Hodgeson picked and used today, saved hodgesons arse? So he saved his own arse, with correct decisions. Isnt that what international managers do? You might not rate him, but bringing him down to mcclarens level is misguided at best.

  • 33 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Jun 16, 2016 at 7:04 PM

Anyway, never mind, England and Wales should qualify now. Hope NI do too.

  • 43 welshgeordie9 // Jun 16, 2016 at 8:00 PM

I compare him to mcclaren because it’s decisions like picking the likes of sterling, Wilshire and some of the others and not players like, Townsend, drinkwater and Defoe, not every national team have got strength in depth, he’s very lucky he’s got players like Varney and Sturridge to come off the bench, when he was with Liverpool he had a very good squad to pick from but he struggled any other manager would have had a field day, did he do well with Blackburn or Fulham.

  • 44 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Jun 16, 2016 at 8:07 PM

    Welsh

Thats 3 players at most out of 23. A fit wilshire is a quality player, it just rarely happens. We played russia and wales off the park, if you are honest, both those teams parked the bus for long periods. Hodgeson has lost 1 game since the last world cup. ONE GAME! And he’s done it with fans and media picking at him at every turn, AND with the youngest England side for a LONG time. I actually wonder what more the guy has to do. Then again, whoever the England manager is is ALWAYS maligned, by our own fans as well as others, its the sad culture that exists in this country. I am behind him, most of the players he is using have a long future.

  • 51 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Jun 16, 2016 at 8:19 PM

    Welsh

Aye, it was quality timing for the winner ๐Ÿ˜€

Wales are a lot better than some give them credit for. One of the breakfast show hosts predicted that both Wales and N.I. would not get a single point, which I thought was a brave statement at best, and a fcuking rediculous one at worst. You will beat russia. They sucked against slovakia, and only drew with us due to first-game syndrome. Thay are terrible.

  • 52 welshgeordie9 // Jun 16, 2016 at 8:22 PM

There’s a question for you all, is the squad we have got now in the championship this season is it stronger, weaker or the same as the squad that played in it last time we was there.

  • 53 welshgeordie9 // Jun 16, 2016 at 8:24 PM

I’m sure Benitez can get the best out the players this season that didn’t perform well or wasn’t picked last season.

  • 54 Average_Contents // Jun 16, 2016 at 8:46 PM

It reminds me of the kit when virgin money sponsored us.

Fcuking wonga shit’ll ruin it again.

  • 55 BandB // Jun 16, 2016 at 8:50 PM

There are four lessons we can all learn from last summer.

    1) The present failed squad is quite strong enough, thank you very much. It’s full of stars.

    2) We definitely don’t need to sign anyone. Getting rid of deadwood is more important than having reasonably sized squad. I’d start with Tim Krul myself.

    3) Our manager has a magic wand he simply needs to wave. Like that Supermac chap.

    4) Stick by these principles, and as every fan knows, we are in for a cracking season.

  • 56 Bobbybee // Jun 16, 2016 at 8:57 PM

Too early welshie, we don’t know who’ll be in the squad yet. I think we go into the Championship in a stronger position than possibly any other side since its conception, with no fire sale needed, money to spend, 50k every other week and the best manager to grace the league. Bring it on! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • 57 BandB // Jun 16, 2016 at 8:59 PM

Does this prediction carry any more weight than your “We’ll never get relegated, trust me. I know!” predictions bobby?

  • 58 Bobbybee // Jun 16, 2016 at 9:01 PM

Croftus, all went downhill from then for Thauvin! Such a promising start… ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • 59 Bobbybee // Jun 16, 2016 at 9:04 PM

BandB, or the one you wrote in the mag, that Rafa wouldn’t sign after all? Mine wasn’t a prediction, it was a refusal to give up until it was over. Big difference.

  • 61 BandB // Jun 16, 2016 at 9:08 PM

    You are right bobby.
We don’t know who will leave.
But if everyone who wants to leave does, we will have a weaker squad for all sorts of reasons than in 2009.
    I my opinion.

  • 62 Bobbybee // Jun 16, 2016 at 9:11 PM

YCMIU, brilliantly timed tackle matey – needed to be like, or it was a penalty for sure.

  • 63 Bobbybee // Jun 16, 2016 at 9:13 PM

  • 64 BandB // Jun 16, 2016 at 9:17 PM

    I will bobby.
Because it has a track record, unlike yours, which is fraught with hubris.
    I hope for the best.
    We need to sign players.
Ones with a better pedigree above half a season in League One.Not on loan. And not in August. Like last time we went down.

  • 65 Bobbybee // Jun 16, 2016 at 9:20 PM

  • 69 BandB // Jun 16, 2016 at 9:26 PM

If this present tournament proves one thing, it is that a well drilled and settled team full of “top flight” stars that don’t have people who can kick it in the goal, they are no better than Iceland.

  • 72 BandB // Jun 16, 2016 at 9:33 PM

England has mirrored the problems Newcastle had last season.
A front three of whom only one had scored many goals at the required level.
For Kane, substitute Mitrovic, for Sterling, Sissoko, for Townsend, Lallana.

  • 78 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Jun 16, 2016 at 9:58 PM

BandB is correct, Englands front 3 for the first 2 games is goal shy.
Next match, Front 3 of Vardy, Stirling and Llalana (because he beats players and at least creates chances, and is therefore a handfull). I would start with the same mf, unless Ali needs a rest.

  • 79 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Jun 16, 2016 at 10:02 PM

Germany look decidedly average. There are 5 or 6 teams that have looked better so far.

    Goodnight old bean.

  • 85 welshgeordie9 // Jun 16, 2016 at 10:12 PM

That group is wide open, Northern Ireland could win it if they beat Gernany.

  • 86 jimmysmith // Jun 16, 2016 at 10:14 PM

History doesn’t tell us much, because circumstances have changed. We do know Benitez has a great track record in management though, and did get this group playing like a top third team in the final six of his ten games. We also know the Championship is significantly inferior.

The problem we’ve so long had is depth and quality, though this group is better in that regard than previous ones, and we have a few extra games to negotiate. I think we need to replace Taylor, and any other player that leaves, so that’s three we need in so far and of atleast strong EPL potential, and in areas of weakness. At this stage that’s a CB and a winger. We are remarkably well placed by comparison to other Championship clubs.

  • 87 Average_Contents // Jun 16, 2016 at 10:16 PM

    Sorry one last post.

    Mark

Are you suggesting he’ll start with Stirling or is that who you’d pick in your front 3?

Surely the former? Basically because he’s shite.

Sturridge Vardy Lallana for me. Wilshire for Deli Ali.

  • 88 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Jun 16, 2016 at 10:16 PM

    BandB

Sorry, i should have said “on this occasion i happen to agree with BandB” ๐Ÿ˜€

  • 89 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Jun 16, 2016 at 10:18 PM

    A_C

My mistake. I meant to type Vardy, Sturidge and llalana. Not stirling.

I got my “Sts” mixed up :-O

  • 90 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Jun 16, 2016 at 10:20 PM

    And yes, wilshire for ali.

  • 91 jimmysmith // Jun 16, 2016 at 10:21 PM

Happy to see Sturridge come on and do the business. He is such a gifted player. Kane and Vardy are very good, but a front three of Sterling, Sturridge and Lallana oozes paced class, even if Sterling is struggling a little for form at this stage.

The midfield of Rooney on the left and Alli on the right with Dier holding is also very good, as are the fullbacks. It is dependant on Roy setting them up right and getting that bit of luck when you need it, but England can do well.

  • 92 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Jun 16, 2016 at 10:21 PM

    I wouldn’t pick stirling if I was playing a front 6, never mind a front 3 ๐Ÿ˜€

  • 93 BandB // Jun 16, 2016 at 10:22 PM

I think Lallana is doing the Alan Ball job.
He’s the dog that chases the sick, as Sir Alf kindly told him.
But Alf had Hurst, Charlton, Peters and Hunt to score the actual goals.
So we need four with the composure and guile to score getting into positions to score.

  • 94 BandB // Jun 16, 2016 at 10:24 PM

    Stick.
Chasing sick would be horrid, obviously.

  • 95 Mister Tuff // Jun 16, 2016 at 10:24 PM

Stirling has not played well for months – on his current form he does not deserve a start.

  • 96 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Jun 16, 2016 at 10:24 PM

    Jimmy

I know stirling has been better in the past, but he is struggling badly for form, and i think giving him another chance is a risk to far. We were almost playing with 10 men in the first half today. Vardy is no slouch, ditto rashford, so there is plenty of pace knocking around the squad.

  • 97 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Jun 16, 2016 at 10:26 PM

Hahahahaha @ “chases the sick”. Thats hilarious and horrifying at the same time!

  • 98 Mister Tuff // Jun 16, 2016 at 10:27 PM

I would not drop Alli – and would start with Vardy, Sturridge and possibly Rashford.

Wilshire – does not warrant a start either.

  • 99 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Jun 16, 2016 at 10:32 PM

    Tuff

Its more a case of ‘resting’ ali rather than dropping him altogether. He looked off the pace today for sone reason. He is a class player. As far as creative replacements go, wilshire (if fit) is preferable to milner or horrendouson. Barkley is out of form.

Having said that, if he went with your front 3, then he could play lallana in ali’s place. He’s playing well so far

  • 100 jimmysmith // Jun 16, 2016 at 10:36 PM

Vardy and Sterling have great pace and movement, and so very hard to defend against. Sterling a natural left winger though. In terms of balance and potential threat I like it when he plays, but yeah you do need to perform. Roy might gamble on him running into his best form though. He is certainly a match winner of the highest order when buzzing

Kane seems a bit out of sorts in this formation, which is a shame, but you need to find your best formation, and he might start to miss out.

  • 101 jimmysmith // Jun 16, 2016 at 10:37 PM

    Vardy and Sturridge sorry.

  • 102 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Jun 16, 2016 at 10:39 PM

    Jimmy

Yeah, Kane might end up as an impact sub if we need to change something in the last 20 mins. He is still a natural goal threat so if he gets the ball in front of goal, hes likely to get on the score sheet.
If stirling starts a couple of games on the bench, and comes on later in the game,it might help him find a bit of form.

  • 103 Mister Tuff // Jun 16, 2016 at 10:41 PM

YCMIU – I suppose it is best not to forget that these days it is widely acknowledged that these tournaments rely on a rotated squad rather than sticking to one set of players.
Woyb got plaudits for his subs today which to my mind is a load of bollicks he picked the wrong team initially.
He ballsed up the subs in the last game trying to protect the 1 -0 lead.

Roy is a gentleman I suppose with great European football knowledge – probably now dated by ten years – he needs to retire.

  • 104 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Jun 16, 2016 at 10:42 PM

We have to consider Hamsik in the next game. He will posibly need man-marking. Who would be best for that job?

Yeah, it’s all very interesting. But really this is a pretty decent England side, and Roy seems to be figuring it out. I can see it doing a bit of damage.

    Tuff

He is getting on i agree. Close to the end of his career maybe. I just don’t think he is quite as ‘dated’ as is made out. He has stuck with the kids, even after the poor show at the world cup. He has only lost one game since then.

You have to give him credit for figuring out how to get Rooney into the team and make it better, and for the emergence of Alle and Dier at the right time, although of course the greater credit lies with the players themselves. The pieces do seem to be there and falling into place just at the right time, albeit in the knowledge you are always one game away from being mugs in tournament football, particularly England.

    Jimmy

Every team has one unlucky game. Hopefully ours was against russia. We are playing well enough to win the group. Better than we have in tournament football for ages imo.

Anyway i am off to bed.

In alphabetical order to the people i have spoken with tonight….
A_C, BandB, Jimmy, Tuff and Welshy, the debate has been enjoyable and polite tonight, so cheers ๐Ÿ˜‰

Yeah, best of luck to them. Nice group of by and large young players, all of them willing and able, and a gent looking after them. They are representing the nation very well. Goodnight all.

I can’t understand all the endemic slating of Woy. What more could he have done ffs. Give the guy a break. We have won all ten matches leading up to these championships and suffered an unlucky draw against Russia after completely outclassing them. We went a goal down today after a goalkeeping error and he made positive substitutions which helped to win us the game.

    Because he’s lester lesh.
I know what bobby is about. I understand him.
    But I can’t stand mealy-mouthed off-piste posters like yourself.

Sadly Lesh, I have to go back to work.
I would have loved a quiet off-piste reckoning with you.
    But it will come.

BandB – I’m surprised to hear you compare Lallana with Alan Ball. Maybe I haven’t seen enough of Lallana – they just seem like totally different styles of player to me.
