Rafa – We Respect Teams – It Will Be Very Exciting – Level Is Higher

6:18 pm, Wednesday, June 22nd, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 94 Comments

Rafa Benitez has reacted to Newcastle’s 46 game fixture list released at 9:00 am this morning and the lads will kick off their Championship season with a televised game on Friday night, 5th August at Fulham.

Our first home game is 8 days later  on 13th August at St. James’ Park against Huddersfield Town.

Rafa Benitez – we respect all teams

This is what Rafa Benitez has  said about the fixtures and that first game at Fulham:

“I am not the kind of manager who is really worried about the fixtures and our rivals.”

“My idea is that you have to play against everyone, and when you will play against them doesn’t change too much in theory.”

“What we do have to do is to prepare our team in the best way possible, to make sure we are strong enough to start the season in a good way, and to carry on until the end.”

“You can say that we will play against Fulham in the first game, away and live on television, but it doesn’t change too much for me.”

“Will it be difficult? Yes. Do we have to respect them? Yes.”

“But the main thing is how good will we be this day, and how good we have to be during the whole season.”

“There are a lot of ex-Premier League teams playing in the Championship now, so the level is higher. I think it will be very interesting.”

“There is more quality around the division, so I think that you will see better games – and it will always be exciting.”

That’s typical of Rafa Benitez where it’s all about what Newcastle will do in the games.

Rafa will do his utmost to have the Newcastle side ready for every single game – and Rafa will be visiting 11 grounds he has never before visited.

See – there’s some advantages of being in the Championship – well maybe just for one season.

🙂

Timing is everything Ed. We’re on to the best game of the tournament here.

  • 2 Tsunki // Jun 22, 2016 at 6:20 PM

Slowly the tide turns to portugal, and we will face them.

  • 3 Bobbybee // Jun 22, 2016 at 6:22 PM

Best game of the Euro’s so far imo. It’s just mental. Look like scoring every attack – both teams.

  • 4 welshgeordie9 // Jun 22, 2016 at 6:23 PM

    Tsunki

Never mind best game of the tournament, this is one of the best games ever.

  • 5 Bobbybee // Jun 22, 2016 at 6:24 PM

Great minds tsunki, great minds… 😉

  • 6 clinath@ed // Jun 22, 2016 at 6:24 PM

Well said Tsunki, mate. Who does Ed think he is? 😉
I haven’t got a clue which this one is gonna go, but I’d prefer Iceland in the next round.

  • 7 welshgeordie9 // Jun 22, 2016 at 6:26 PM

If England do play Portugal then i think England will beat them, send the winking man back home.

  • 8 Bobbybee // Jun 22, 2016 at 6:27 PM

If we play portugal we can rip them on the break with Vardy. Set up for his game i reckon.

  • 9 clinath@ed // Jun 22, 2016 at 6:27 PM

Now I’d PAY to see that one Welshie…

  • 10 Tsunki // Jun 22, 2016 at 6:28 PM

Apart from the Wales v Russia game I haven’t thought much of this tournament so far but it looks like things are picking up all right.

  • 11 Bobbybee // Jun 22, 2016 at 6:32 PM

Clint, i’ll happily take your money marra, if you want to pay to watch it. 😉

  • 12 Tsunki // Jun 22, 2016 at 6:35 PM

Just goes to show two lousy defences can provide easily as much entertainment as two good strike forces 🙂

  • 13 clinath@ed // Jun 22, 2016 at 6:35 PM

    Cheque’s in the post Bobby…..honest

  • 14 clinath@ed // Jun 22, 2016 at 6:39 PM

    Sanchez…..50M?

  • 15 Bobbybee // Jun 22, 2016 at 6:39 PM

Clint, goal post i presume. 😉

  • 16 clinath@ed // Jun 22, 2016 at 6:40 PM

    Hungary knacked?

  • 17 clinath@ed // Jun 22, 2016 at 6:41 PM

Bobby…..oh dear. That’s 2nd class at best mate

  • 18 Bobbybee // Jun 22, 2016 at 6:44 PM

    Clint, touche! 😉

  • 19 Tsunki // Jun 22, 2016 at 6:44 PM

You’d think portugal would want to avoid us next.

  • 20 Bobbybee // Jun 22, 2016 at 6:45 PM

Can he resist a shot from there? Probably not.

  • 21 clinath@ed // Jun 22, 2016 at 6:49 PM

Not with that ego mate. I’m surprised he doesn’t take goal kicks.

  • 22 Tsunki // Jun 22, 2016 at 6:50 PM

    Iceland scored?

  • 23 clinath@ed // Jun 22, 2016 at 6:51 PM

Have Iceland scored? Yes…..we play Iceland next Monday..

  • 24 Bobbybee // Jun 22, 2016 at 6:51 PM

Get in Iceland! It gets better by the minute. 😉

  • 25 clinath@ed // Jun 22, 2016 at 6:53 PM

Well Tsunki, Bobby really enjoyed that lads. Great craic. Off to walk the dog and have some tea.
Maybe see you in the Eire/Italy game…..got a lot to live up to.

  • 26 welshgeordie9 // Jun 22, 2016 at 6:57 PM

Hang on a minute now guys, yes its great you have got Iceland instead of Portugal, but Iceland did draw with them in the first game, anything can happen.

  • 27 Average_Contents // Jun 22, 2016 at 6:57 PM

    How dramatic was that lol.

Thanks Iceland. Much prefer them over our bogey team.

Saying that they’ll probably beat us :-/

  • 28 Bobbybee // Jun 22, 2016 at 6:58 PM

Enjoy your walk marra, catch ya next game no doubt. Well, what a belting game that was. Capped nicely by a goal in the other game. So, big heed, watcha got to say about iceland now then? 😉

  • 29 welshgeordie9 // Jun 22, 2016 at 7:00 PM

Not being biased or anything but England better watch out for Swans top goal scorer when they both play.

    Ha ha ha

  • 30 GeordieTwo // Jun 22, 2016 at 7:07 PM

An interesting matchup. That Iceland defense is tremendous and we don’t score much. Hmmmm.

  • 31 GeordieTwo // Jun 22, 2016 at 7:09 PM

Us against the Vikings. We will de-horn them…..

  • 32 GeordieTwo // Jun 22, 2016 at 7:09 PM

We’ve pulled the horns of tougher nuts than them…. Harrumph.

  • 33 Jail for Ashley // Jun 22, 2016 at 7:11 PM

Missed that putting the bairns to bed, 3-3 and Hungary taking the pis$,I thought they must have heard the Iceland draw, Iceland won 2-1? So are Portugal out?

  • 34 Bobbybee // Jun 22, 2016 at 7:16 PM

Jail, they go through as one of the lucky losers.

  • 35 GeordieTwo // Jun 22, 2016 at 7:17 PM

3 points and you can be through to the second round. That’s what happens when you have 24 teams. Are there really 24 good teams in Europe? After watching this tournament I would say no.

  • 36 GeordieTwo // Jun 22, 2016 at 7:18 PM

I mean do you see any nuts with horns on them? No. That’s settled then…..

  • 37 GeordieTwo // Jun 22, 2016 at 7:20 PM

Still, it gets us a game against a fairly weak opponent so I shouldn’t complain.

  • 38 Jail for Ashley // Jun 22, 2016 at 7:20 PM

    Bobby,
    How?,
    Even if Sweden win?

  • 39 Bobbybee // Jun 22, 2016 at 7:28 PM

And so it’s over to Ireland to carry on with an upset against the mighty Italy. Need to play a lot better than last time around mind you, or they’ll be the only home side to go home early. Can’t help but want them to win, but it won’t be easy. You out there Munster? Give us the lowdown on your lads and their chances tonight. Come on you boys in green! 😉

  • 40 Bobbybee // Jun 22, 2016 at 7:31 PM

Jail, just going off what they said on the box. They’ve got three points, but not sure if a sweden win will change that.

  • 41 GeordieTwo // Jun 22, 2016 at 7:36 PM

Would love to see the Irish beat Italy. Unlikely, but you never know. Italy has re-built their squad fairly quickly and look like a powerful side again. Why can’t we do that?

  • 42 Bobbybee // Jun 22, 2016 at 7:38 PM

Jail, aye, portugal are through as a lucky loser, they’ve just confirmed it on the other channel. They play Croatia in the last 16.

  • 43 Jail for Ashley // Jun 22, 2016 at 7:38 PM

    So,
(c)arl Thorsson, Ian Carlson, Pushy Ianson, sackllambias Pushyson , and so it continues, very medieval !

  • 44 Jail for Ashley // Jun 22, 2016 at 7:40 PM

    Bobby,
Me and a lad at work, worked it all out earlier but never took this set of results in tow 😮

  • 45 GeordieTwo // Jun 22, 2016 at 7:41 PM

Don’t forget Gundar Bonefankerson Jail mate…

  • 46 Jib // Jun 22, 2016 at 7:42 PM

I think Jail is getting confused twixt Iceland and Sweden.

  • 47 Bobbybee // Jun 22, 2016 at 7:49 PM

Can Ireland and Italy really follow that last game though? That’s some tough act to follow! Settle for a scrappy 1-0 to Ireland, but Italy have got some decent players and should win. That said, who thought Iceland would qualify? Either way, cue some serious play acting from the boys in blue. Nobody does it better. 😉

  • 48 welshgeordie9 // Jun 22, 2016 at 7:58 PM

    Come on Ireland.

  • 49 clinath@ed // Jun 22, 2016 at 7:58 PM

    Howay Ireland.

  • 50 bettyswallocks // Jun 22, 2016 at 7:59 PM

We could do with our Scandinavian consultant for all this but he seems to have really got the hump .Shame really, so if you’re reading Jesp give us a look in mate.

  • 51 Jail for Ashley // Jun 22, 2016 at 8:05 PM

    JIB,
Sweden outlawed the habit in the middle ages.

  • 52 martoon // Jun 22, 2016 at 8:11 PM

The thing I don’t understand is how does a shop have a team in the Euros? 😀

  • 53 Bobbybee // Jun 22, 2016 at 8:14 PM

The sneaky corporations getting into football now martoon. Bloody NWO!! 😉

  • 54 clinath@ed // Jun 22, 2016 at 8:16 PM

Sports Direct will have a team soon…..oh, hang on a minute

  • 55 Bobbybee // Jun 22, 2016 at 8:20 PM

Clint, our derby is against Oldham – at the sportsdirect.com stadium. 😉

  • 56 clinath@ed // Jun 22, 2016 at 8:24 PM

Went to that preseason friendly 2 years back.

  • 57 Bobbybee // Jun 22, 2016 at 8:24 PM

Ireland certainly going for it. You just never know…

  • 58 Bobbybee // Jun 22, 2016 at 8:29 PM

Must’ve been confusing for Ashley. How does that even work? I bet he pays them to advertise, the knacker, so isn’t that involvement in another club? No doubt his lawyers will have sorted that out, but it sounds shady to me.

  • 59 Bobbybee // Jun 22, 2016 at 8:32 PM

How is that not a penalty ffs?

  • 60 clinath@ed // Jun 22, 2016 at 8:38 PM

Has he left is yellow card in the changing room?

  • 61 clinath@ed // Jun 22, 2016 at 8:40 PM

    …ah, there it is

  • 62 Bobbybee // Jun 22, 2016 at 8:41 PM

Apparently not! 😉 Good game so far. Ireland on top.

  • 63 clinath@ed // Jun 22, 2016 at 8:41 PM

Ireland are up for this…they can smell fear.

  • 64 clinath@ed // Jun 22, 2016 at 8:43 PM

Where do they find these refs from?

  • 65 Bobbybee // Jun 22, 2016 at 8:44 PM

If Ireland go through as well, it says a lot about the PL and Championship – even the lower leagues. If four teams can get through from basically one countries leagues! Penalty ffs!

  • 66 clinath@ed // Jun 22, 2016 at 8:44 PM

    It gets worse ref….?

  • 67 clinath@ed // Jun 22, 2016 at 8:46 PM

Good point about our league, and it’s representatives in this tourno mate.

  • 68 Bobbybee // Jun 22, 2016 at 8:47 PM

How can they all miss that? Outrageous officials, should hang their heads in shame. Bottlers.

  • 69 Bobbybee // Jun 22, 2016 at 8:49 PM

Clint, shows the strength in depth imo. Something to be proud of.

  • 70 clinath@ed // Jun 22, 2016 at 8:53 PM

    Bollox Wbb

  • 71 clinath@ed // Jun 22, 2016 at 8:54 PM

    Howard Webb

  • 72 Bobbybee // Jun 22, 2016 at 8:57 PM

Bollox webb sounds better mate. 😉

  • 73 clinath@ed // Jun 22, 2016 at 8:57 PM

Yeah, shouldn’t try and type while I’m screaming at the tele….

  • 74 ShirebrookToon // Jun 22, 2016 at 9:02 PM

    Come on Ireland!!

  • 75 Bobbybee // Jun 22, 2016 at 9:12 PM

Did ye catch the portugal game shirebrook? What a belter eh?

  • 76 ShirebrookToon // Jun 22, 2016 at 9:12 PM

Wouldn’t mind Hendrick playing for us next season 🙂

  • 77 Bobbybee // Jun 22, 2016 at 9:14 PM

Get into them… come on you greens! 😉

  • 78 ShirebrookToon // Jun 22, 2016 at 9:14 PM

No Bobby was working but watched the highlights mate. Who’s a small country now Mr Ronaldo haha

  • 79 Bobbybee // Jun 22, 2016 at 9:15 PM

You’re in for a treat matey. Best one up to now. 😉

  • 80 ShirebrookToon // Jun 22, 2016 at 9:16 PM

Got to have been game of the tournament so far though Bobby both teams just going all out for a win

  • 81 Bobbybee // Jun 22, 2016 at 9:17 PM

Whoops! WATCHED the highlights. Belter. Even better that iceland finished above them. What a mug eh? 😉

  • 82 clinath@ed // Jun 22, 2016 at 9:19 PM

Where did that centre half learn his football…..MMA?

  • 83 Bobbybee // Jun 22, 2016 at 9:19 PM

Both teams wanted it and it showed. Sign of things to come hopefully. This is a good game as well, with Ireland going flat out and Italy cheating! 😉

  • 84 ShirebrookToon // Jun 22, 2016 at 9:20 PM

To be fair Iceland have played surprisingly well and deserve to go through. Made the tournament that bit more competitive this 3rd best placed teams rule.

  • 85 clinath@ed // Jun 22, 2016 at 9:21 PM

It has shire rook, you are right

  • 86 clinath@ed // Jun 22, 2016 at 9:22 PM

    Sorry Shirebrook, didn’t check…

  • 87 ShirebrookToon // Jun 22, 2016 at 9:22 PM

Italy have always been dirty and sly dogs of the international teams.

  • 88 Bobbybee // Jun 22, 2016 at 9:23 PM

That said though, i would’ve loved Ronaldo to have gone home early. 😉 They might be lucky but they’re still losers. 😉

  • 89 ShirebrookToon // Jun 22, 2016 at 9:24 PM

    Clin
Most teams would have given up by now had this rule not been implemented. One of the best tournaments in years I think

  • 90 clinath@ed // Jun 22, 2016 at 9:24 PM

What annoys me in all football, is when pundits and commentators defend it. Matheus was saying at half time that “fighting” in the box was now part of the game….who is running our sport? The players or the ruling body ffs

  • 91 ShirebrookToon // Jun 22, 2016 at 9:27 PM

    Bobby
Cant see Portugal getting past Croatia TBH. They played fantastic against Spain and that was without Modric and a couple of other key players

  • 92 Bobbybee // Jun 22, 2016 at 9:27 PM

Iceland must be the most respected team after the group stage. Incredible effort from such a small population. Hats off to them. N Ireland as well. And Wales… Funny old game when you think about it! 😉

  • 93 ShirebrookToon // Jun 22, 2016 at 9:30 PM

He’s a toffee nosed tw@ clin. All he can see is Germany winning the Euros and all others teams are worthless svines!!!

  • 94 ShirebrookToon // Jun 22, 2016 at 9:32 PM

Ireland going through would top it off for me. All the home nations through to the knock outs and the likes of Iceland, Hungary etc
