Newcastle Fans Win – Rafa Turned Down Big Bucks To Stay

It turns out Rafa Benitez – as expected – received some big money offers as he was deciding whether to stay on at Newcastle over the summer and heaven knows how much he was offered to manage a club in China – but he turned that offer down to stay on Tyneside.

It’s not that Rafa is short of money and the £5M/year he gets at Newcastle means he’s not a pauper, but it’s also true he could have got more elsewhere – there’s no doubt about that.

Rafa Benitez – went for the challenge rather than big bucks

Rafa doesn’t prioritize just making big money, but rather he looks for the challenge and he’s taken on a huge challenge at Newcastle – and he knows it.

He also loves it.

The Chronicle is reporting today that Rafa was offered multi-million pound wages by a club in the Far East to join them in May.

Big name managers like Sven-Goran Eriksson and Luiz Felipe Scolari are two managers raking it in over there managing Shanghai SIPG and Guangzhou Evergrande Taobao respectively.

Rafa has made no secret of the fact that the Newcastle fans were a huge part of his decision to stay – and his hints about love from the fans was important to him – resonated with Geordie fans.

He certainly didn’t get any of that at Real Madrid or Chelsea – that’s for sure – even though he won the Europa League for Chelsea.

Rafa’s first and most important goal now he has taken on the Newcastle challenge is is to get us promoted at the first attempt – and he has come out and asked the Newcastle fans for their help in doing that.

Geordie fans appreciate a man of principle who has on his own accord decided to stay at Newcastle United – even though we are a second division club.

Newcastle fans – we need you Rafa!

Alan Shearer for one was convinced Rafa wouldn’t stay, simply because he was too big to manage in the second division and he would be getting huge offers coming in.

But Rafa loves coaching wherever that is – and he has taken on the challenge of the Championship in typical style – working around the clock to ensure he and Newcastle will be ultra successful next season.

And hopefully in the (many) seasons ahead.

Geordie fans admire a man of principle – like Rafa Benitez.

Presumably the brexit will see the cost of imports, including football players skyrocket?

I’m just glad he has stayed. Everyone who sang for most of the game on the final day helped to sway his decision further.

Not a manager in the world that wouldn’t make more than he currently makes by going to China. With the exception of Carver maybe, though he’s not really a manager and no word on what they pay for interim head coaches out east.

Point is there’s a clear understanding what they’re giving up – or what they’re selling – when they choose that route.
