Newcastle Willing To Take A Loss On Winger

12:03 pm, Friday, June 24th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 36 Comments

If at all possible Newcastle would like to sell French flop Florian Thauvin this summer and maybe the best deal for Newcastle is for him to move to Italy.

Marseille want to take the player on loan again next season, but they are extremely short of cash.

The advantage with Lazio, who are interested in the player, is the new manager there is former Marseille manager Marcelo Bielsa and he is keen on signing Thauvin and he got the best out of the winger when he managed Marseille for about 15 months from May, 2014.

Florian Thauvin – Newcastle want £10M to £11M for him

There is a report in Gianluca Di Marzio today that Rafa Benitez wants from £10M to £11M for the winger and that means we will lose between £2M and £3M on the player in a year.

We paid Marseille £13M for him last August and the lowered amount is an indication of Newcastle wanting to do a straight transfer for the winger in the summer.

It’s obvious Newcastle overpaid for Florian when he had a poor season in 2014-2015 and yet we paid a rather staggering £13M for him – a player very much like Remy Cabella who had just failed miserably the season before on Tyneside.

But that’s what the transfer business was like at Newcastle with Lee Charnley and Graham Carr in charge – very poor at best.

It’s still a question as to whether Lazio will want to meet Newcastle’s lowered fee on Thauvin.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

Law soon to be passed to “Britishify” any previously foreign residents names. Upon qualifying for British citizenship, the new dweller in Blighty must assimilate a British surname. This can be done by simply changing to “Smith”, “Robinson ” or “Johnson ” for example. However to aid transition hyphenated concoctions can be allowed in a short interim period, for example, Igor Solzhenitsyn could be Igor Cholmondely-Solzhenitsyn for a maximum of two years, after which he would be Ivor Cholmondely. Jean-Claude LeClerc could become Jean-Claude McLerc and, after two years, he would be John Carl McLean. Then he would be deported to Scotland.

Can’t wait for duodecimalisation. By rights, everything should be half price overnight, if decimalisation was anything to go by.

Well there’s reports saying we might have our first signing today but i think that nothing will happen today or next week, probably more rubbish rumours.

  • 16 Blofal // Jun 24, 2016 at 12:40 PM

I have a feeling from all the snippets I’m reading that the first signing might be Blackburn Rovers Captain Grant Hanley.

Let’s face it, we were never committed to the relationship. We still drove on the left and kept the pound.

Tsunki @ 2 above … name changing camouflage.

Straight out of the Saxe-Coburg and Gotha  playbook of 100 years ago.

For those who’ve slurped too much celebratory Mescaline this morning it’s a reference to Betty Windsor’s family changing their Kraut name to a Blighty one during that first big bun fight with Fritz.

If, in the fullness of time Brits’ll have to join the non-EU queue when coming into the country, you’d better watch your Ps and Qs otherwise you mightn’t be allowed into the UK!

  • 24 lesh // Jun 24, 2016 at 1:34 PM

    BDM….don’t mention the war!

  • 25 bettyswallocks // Jun 24, 2016 at 1:37 PM

If anyone is upset about Brexit blame the Welsh . They voted to leave in droves. As if they haven’t got enough to worry about with all those sheep to look after.

Holland and Denmark now want to leave. What say you Jesperfuglslang ?

  • 26 Jail for Ashley // Jun 24, 2016 at 1:47 PM

Denmark want to rotate their membership!

  • 27 welshgeordie9 // Jun 24, 2016 at 1:53 PM

Blame the Welsh, what a first class plonker you really are Rodney.

  • 28 bettyswallocks // Jun 24, 2016 at 2:08 PM

Welsh…… Have you ever considered a sheep rotating policy. It might be the way forward.

  • 29 lesh // Jun 24, 2016 at 2:15 PM

I think you’ll find it’s the far right groups of Holland, Denmark, France, Poland and Hungary that a stirring for out of the EU and playing the racist immigrant card as being the cause of unemployment etc.

This is not dissimilar to Germany post WW1 when the Jews and others were scapegoated as being the cause of unemployment and other problems. One Herr Hitler exploited that and we know what happened next don’t we.

  • 30 bettyswallocks // Jun 24, 2016 at 2:19 PM

Lesh….. You’re probably right . The whole EU could well disintegrate now. Maybe each country is better off controlling its own affairs.

  • 31 AncientC // Jun 24, 2016 at 2:27 PM

Article 50 hasn’t even been invoked yet, probably within the next 2 weeks; at that point it will be another two years before Britain leaves the EU.

I wouldn’t say it is over for “remain” quite yet.

  • 32 bettyswallocks // Jun 24, 2016 at 2:35 PM

It’s ok for the likes of Jib. Playboys on Spanish Islands won’t be affected by any of it. Not that I’m jealous of him in any way of course.

This is why politics don’t belong on the blog.

People feel comfortable throwing out comments, that they don’t deem to be an issue, but for others, they are. This isn’t the place to debate those issues, so it’s best they simply aren’t made at all in the first place.

Someone on a Spanish Island (Playboy would be pushing it).

It’s curious that when the steel plants shut down with massive job losses and consequences for communities in the north and Wales that it was all so quiet down in London.
And when BHS and Austin Reed close with 12,000 jobs at risk that had nothing to do with bad management from London.
Now Morgan Stanley have announced relocation of 2,000 investment bank jobs to Dublin and Frankfurt London’s hand wringing cringe worthy view is that it’s down to northerners voting to leave Europe. They could of course move those jobs to Edinburgh or Newcastle to show that they have a balanced perspective.
    Don’t make me laugh.

In football terms Arsenal and Chelsea are just the same – London pimps with no sense of the real world. So classy of Vardy to tell Wenger to go inspect his anal cavity.

Make Chesterfield the new capital of England , that’ll really change things.

It was best served as an Ashley bashing blog until he went an hired a top manager!

    Apologies for the early rant.
I’ll stick to football …..its less stressful, marginally anyway
