There’s a report today in Spanish newspaper Marco that Southampton are in advanced negotiations to sign 21 year-old Tenerife striker Nano (full name Alexander Mesa Travieso) for €3M, which is the release clause amount in his contract.
Newcastle were expected to make a move for the youngster this summer, if only because Ayoze Perez was signed from Tenerife for €2M two years ago, and the 22 year-old has been a success on Tyneside and brought in at a bargain basement price too.
Rafa Benitez is also expected to bring some Spanish players into the Newcastle squad this summer.
Nano – signing for Southampton?
The news is that Nano has already flown to England and has to agree personal terms with the south coast club, so if that news is correct, it’s almost a done deal for the Saints as long as Nano passes his medical.
Aston Villa were also said to be interested in the 21-year-old.
The news is that the Saints are willing to pay the youngster a rather high initial £24K/week in wages on a four-year contract.
The young striker had a very good seoasn last term and scored 14 goals in 35 total games at the Spanish second division club.
Hopefully, Nano is not one of the four imminent signings Rafa talked about last Thursday.
We thought Newcastle would sign this youngster in the summer, so this is a bit of a surprise if the news is true.
