Surprise – Southampton To Beat Magpies To This Striker

3:34 pm, Monday, June 27th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 60 Comments

There’s a report today in Spanish newspaper Marco that Southampton are in advanced negotiations to sign 21 year-old Tenerife striker Nano (full name Alexander Mesa Travieso) for €3M, which is the release clause amount in his contract.

Newcastle were expected to make a move for the youngster this summer, if only because Ayoze Perez was signed from Tenerife for 2M two years ago, and the 22 year-old has been a success on Tyneside and brought in at a bargain basement price too.

Rafa Benitez is also expected to bring some Spanish players into the Newcastle squad this summer.

Nano – signing for Southampton?

The news is that Nano has already flown to England and has to agree personal terms with the south coast club, so if that news is correct, it’s almost a done deal for the Saints as long as Nano passes his medical.

Aston Villa were also said to be interested in the 21-year-old.

The news is that the Saints are willing to pay the youngster a rather high initial £24K/week in wages on a four-year contract.

The young striker had a very good seoasn last term and scored 14 goals in 35 total games at the Spanish second division club.

Hopefully, Nano is not one of the four imminent signings Rafa talked about last Thursday.

We thought Newcastle would sign this youngster in the summer, so this is a bit of a surprise if the news is true.

Comments welcome.

I suspect if Rafa really wanted him, then he would already be a done deal. The link to us was press speculation at best.

Thought he had signed for some low end Spanish outfit? But am not fussed either way we’ve already got a Spanish wonder kid to bring on just fitting him in the team is the problem. Nice to see him planning on staying though he needs to up his game after last season

  • 3 Tsunki // Jun 27, 2016 at 3:40 PM

    Isn’t he a bit small?

  • 4 Mister Tuff // Jun 27, 2016 at 3:43 PM

Tsunki @3 – classic quote of the bride Jane aka Mrs Jib Jibberish on their wedding night.

No surprises here then. After all, Charmless would be lost negotiating a single million quid deal for a player. He needs to be sure that he doesn’t sign off any more big money signings that flop.

Anyway, he’ll be negotiating with Greggs to supply Spanish flavoured nibbles for Rafa!

  • 21 Mister Tuff // Jun 27, 2016 at 4:53 PM

Jib Jibberish in answer to your question – no. Just I’m on top form today -quality gags.

  • 22 Mister Tuff // Jun 27, 2016 at 4:56 PM

Tonight 4 – 0 to England providing Woy plays the best team which includes Vardy and Sturridge and does not include Wilshire and Henderson.
I would not start Harry Kane either sub with Rashford.

  • 23 Jail for Ashley // Jun 27, 2016 at 4:58 PM

This could be a cracker if there’s an earlyish goal.

  • 24 Jib // Jun 27, 2016 at 5:00 PM

Woy has to play de yoofs

  • 25 AncientC // Jun 27, 2016 at 5:03 PM

“The news is that the Saints are willing to pay the youngster a rather high initial £24K/week in wages on a four-year contract.”

There is absolutely no way Nano would be on those type of wages coming from a club like Tenerife, which tends to make the whole story look made up.

Perez who turned down Real Madrid, showed form in the Premier League to earn a new contract, is still probably not even on 24k a week.

Tell you what Spain have been shocking today.

  • 49 Tsunki // Jun 27, 2016 at 6:49 PM

That’s the one there. So much for tiki taka. Spain needed to be hoofing that ball forward, their best chance was a route one.

  • 50 manxpie // Jun 27, 2016 at 6:52 PM

well thats 1 of the favourites gone
and conte is definitely morphing into barry manilow

  • 51 Tsunki // Jun 27, 2016 at 6:53 PM

Italians did a good job on them there. They’re going to be a tough nut to crack.

  • 52 Jail for Ashley // Jun 27, 2016 at 6:55 PM

Sterling is starting again tonight, I wouldn’t be thinking about Italy just yet.

    Something like that…

  • 55 Tsunki // Jun 27, 2016 at 6:58 PM

Great. The most expensive headless chicken act going. He should confuse the Icelandiclanders he does me I haven’t a clue what his purpose is.

  • 56 Mister Tuff // Jun 27, 2016 at 7:04 PM

Woy has picked Sterling and Kane on reputation and not current form.
He is clearly hoping they hit previous form – good gamble if it comes off.

Woy – out – retirement home awaits.

  • 57 Jail for Ashley // Jun 27, 2016 at 7:08 PM

The most dangerous we’ve looked in the three games was the second half against Wales. Why not go with that team. Two strikers who he won’t play together yet drops the one who has a goal to his name. I think the nearly seventy old has fluffed his lines again. Time will tell. Who’s next though, Allardyce or Pardew?

  • 58 Belfast // Jun 27, 2016 at 7:22 PM

Woy is just trying to sabotage my 4-0 bet. Don’t worry.

  • 59 Mister Tuff // Jun 27, 2016 at 7:34 PM

    Belfast – I’m going for 4 – 0 as well.

  • 60 dannitoon // Jun 28, 2016 at 7:56 AM
