The Newcastle players not involved with Internationals this summer will be returning for pre-season training this week and we expect a number of them not to be Newcastle players come September.
Rafa will want to take a look at some of the players who were out on loan last season, such as Sammy Ameobi, Gael Bigirimana and Haris Vuckic, but it looks like there are at least eight players who are simply not in Rafa’s plans for Newcastle in the future and surplus to requirements.
Henri Saivet – signed while Steve McClaren was the manager
Yoan Gouffran, Henri Saivet, Manu Riviere, Florian Thauvin, Fabricio Coloccini, Sammy Ameobi, Gael Bigirimana and Haris Vuckic are those players.
Note that Remy Cabella will be officially sold to Marseille for £7.3M on Friday 1st July, when deals can officially be completed, since the transfer window is then open.
He would be the 9th player but we did not include him in the list.
Yoan Gouffran, Manu Riviere and Florian Thauvin are French forwards who are simply not good enough and there is interest in Thauvin from both Marseille and Lazio.
Newly promoted AS Nancy are said to be interested in taking striker Manu Riviere and they have reportedly already contacted Newcastle about the availability of the former Monaco striker.
Yoan Gouffran has one year left on his contract and could be sold or sent out on loan to get his wages off the wage bill this summer; he was signed in January of 2013 from Bordeaux but has been a failure at the club – especially over the last couple of seasons.
Rafa will want to take a close look at three of the younger players coming back from loans – Sammy Ameobi, Gael Bigirimana and Haris Vuckic – and maybe one of them can catch his eye, but it doesn’t look like either of the three are good enough for Newcastle.
Coventry City are willing to take Bigirimana, after he had a decent loan spell there for them at his former club last season, but only if he is made a free agent by Newcastle.
Maybe Rangers – now in the Scottish Premier League once again – will be keen to take Haris back, after his successful loan spell there the season before last or even sign him permanently.
One player we feel has been unlucky this year is Henri Saivet and he didn’t play one minute once Rafa arrived.
The Senegal International’s career at Newcastle may already be over, although he looked a skillful player when he did play for Newcastle.
So there are nine players who will be leaving if we include Remy Cabella – so there will be lots of players leaving as well as lots of new players arriving over the next two months.
What do you think?

Comment #4So we’re going to be recycling the same stories on a weekly basis, are we? Let’s see –
‘Players not in Rafa’s plans’
‘Players Rafa is looking to sign’
‘Rafa looking to improve injury record (including the table of injuries from last season)’
‘Rafa is improving our training ground with 4G pitches’
Am I missing any others?

Comment #6There’s always the old faithful…if only we had signed Charlie Austin stories…..its just a pity we lost the services of Craig Coozy, now he was on the ball, the number of players hiding in jesmond dene hotel until their transfers were announced ……some of which I believe are still there as Freddy lost the key to the room and went into hospital and forgot about them
