Rafa Benitez Upbeat About This In Pre-Season

The Newcastle players will start reporting back today in stages, as they undertake their initial fitness and conditioning tests this week.

Training will begin in earnest on Friday, July 1st which is a short five weeks before our first game at Fulham in the Championship.

And with Holland not qualifying for the finals of Euro 2016, it means we don’t have Daryl Janmaat, Georginio Wijnaldum and Vurnon Anita involved in the tournament.

And Andros Townsend didn’t make the England cut of 23 players, although he make it into the 26 man squad for the friendlies.

Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez thinks it’s good we have only Moussa Sissoko (I want to play for a  Champions  League club) at the Euros and Moussa is not starting for France.

This is what Rafa has said:

“It’s much better just having one player away, especially for the coaches, so we can start working with our ideas.”

Most of the first team squad will be back at the club’s Benton base on Friday when the team returns for pre-season training.

The squad will have a very busy pre-season and will be travelling to Ireland on July 9th, for a week-long training camp and they finish the week with our first friendly game on July 16th against  Bohemians in Dublin’s fair city.

And it will be (very) important for Rafa to convince our best players to stay at the club.

There was a disturbing report last night in France that Andros Townsend will join Crystal Palace after Palace invoked the release clause in his contract (about £13M) and that Andros has even agreed terms with the London club who have new American owners.

If that’s true it would be an early disaster for Newcastle.

    Misquoting the Bard.

Jib Jibberish -disgraceful – the worlds most famous playwright – William Shakespeare – and you misquote his words,
    ““into the breach”

You will find that the correct words are”unto the breach”

    (Henry V, Act III, 1598).
