Matt Ritchie Keen To Join Benitez And Newcastle In £12M Deal

5:32 pm, Wednesday, June 29th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 20 Comments

Newcastle are preparing to bid a high £12M for Bournemouth midfielder Matt Ritchie, who Manchester United were rumored to be interested in half way through last season as the Red Devils looked to increase their attacking options.

Now it seems that Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez has zoned in on the impressive 26 year-old Scottish International and the Mirror is reporting Newcastle are in talks  with Bournemouth on his transfer – and it could happen as early as this week.

Sky Sports is reporting a deal is close.

Matt Ritchie – reported keen to work with Rafa Benitez

The Mirror is reporting that Rafa Benitez wants to compete this deal before he allows Andros Townsend to sign for Crystal Palace for the release clause of about £13M in his contract.

The potential loss of Townsend is not being taken well by the Geordie faithful, who are disappointed with the apparent loss of the talented winger – including us.

🙁

The Mirror is reporting that Ritchie is keen to work with Rafa Benitez and join Newcastle United, even though that means dropping down to the Championship.

Top Belgian goalkeeper Matz Sels was signed today from Gent for around £5M (€6M) and Dwight Gayle is in Newcastle right now taking his medical in a potential £10M move from Palace.

It looks like the next one through the door after those two could well be Matt Ritchie.

Hope so.

Rafa had talked almost a week ago of having three to four deals very close to being completed.

Comments welcome.

Would love to have both Ritchie and Townsend, they would rip up the championship!

Upgrades at Benton – not of much interest in the pics – cannot determine exactly how the facilities have improved unless there were before and after photos.

Matt Ritchie was outstanding in the SJP game that really sealed our fate. He’s a left footer who plays on the right and he scored a number of goals in Bournemouth’s promotion season and well suited to the Championship. He’s a real grafter as well an excellent signing.

Manu Rivére’s transfer to Nancy has hit the usual stumbling block – he’s got used to PL wages and if he wants a return to France he has to moderate his demands.

So are we satisfied that with Gayle signed there’s enough goals in the team. I don’t care how good some people are saying Armstrong is I don’t want him pressurised into being our main man, that seriously affected a young Mitro last season and it would be good if he was brought in slowly in games Rafa has down as easy.

oh and dwight gayle is crap. Not sure why we are putting 24M into two guys at the bottom of the PL table. WHy not win with what we have and wait till next year to buy. even Manu Manu the slender can score in championship

Gayle is low end prem striker who is better than what we currently have so for me it’s a positive and expect a big return in the championship.

Richie would be a great signing after he played so well against us I started whatching him closely and he is such a hard worker who really causes problems. I can’t believe he has not stayed in the prem.

On another note gutted to lose Townsend which looks like it will happen soon enough 🙁

    James
What other chapmionship club spends 24M on those two??

    Taco,
People moaned about Townsend, people scoffed Welbeck before Weiner made an impossible signing well out of our reach. We are in the Championship and the two outfield players we have signed (ing) have played and done well there and more importantly have shown they can also step up to the PL. In an ideal world we could snap up the players that the best non CL clubs could attract, unfortunately we are not in an ideal world and years diabolical mismanagement have us where we are and we have to make do. As for our current lot getting us back up, we need a fresh injection of leadership and mentality.

Although I believe in Rafa I cannot help think that Redmond and Dembele would have been better options if we’d moved quicker ? Both are young and have PL pedigree, not too sure about these two ?
