Matz Sels Picture At St. James’ Park Leaked

9:28 am, Wednesday, June 29th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 26 Comments

Belgium paper Het Nieuwsblad have just published a photograph of Newcastle-bound Matz Sels at St. James Park as we wait for the official unveiling of Rafa Benitez’ first signing for Newcastle United.

Matz passed his medical last night and will sign a five year deal which will leave the way for Tim Krul to leave the club – probably to Everton although the Smoggies are also interested but we doubt he would want to join them over the Toffees.

The headline in Dutch says “Sels is already in Newcastle,  Gent has substitute in Sweden.”

    Welcome to Nufc Mr Sals

That Flemish (i think?) headline looks like one of my ‘drunk texts’

  • 3 Spoof // Jun 29, 2016 at 9:35 AM

Have Everton not turned their attention away from Krul and are now focusing on Joe Hart instead, I could be wrong but I’m sure I heard that somewhere.

Just looking on the official site for confirmation when I noticed this:

I’m surprised nobody has commented on this devastating loss 😀

Got to admit that it’s a strange move for him, Champions league to Championship, unless they are past their best you would expect a player to be going in the opposite direction.

    Fair point B.

Still, it shows poor Elliott that a ‘player of the season’ was for nought and that it is assumed Krul will continue to sustain injuries and won’t be improving. And that Darlow isn’t good enough.

I just really hope Rafa can pull off the lofty expectations. I mean, Ed is talking of top 6 in a different league to ours, and that is great, optimism. But, one step at a time.

He needs to now buy players who can win games.

I will be the first to praise performance, anyone’s, ON the field. I’ve seen too many false dawns at this team.

More worried about the Dwight Gayle link.
Even Bristol city pulled out of a deal last season for him

  • 10 Mister Tuff // Jun 29, 2016 at 9:50 AM

We did have problems with the goalkeeper situation – not least because of the injury situation with Krul and Elliot. (perma-crocks).
This signing does make sense I suppose and looks like it will facilitate Krul leaving.

Gayle – be very surprised if this is true – recently he signed a new contract – he is not really a prolific goal scorer – at best a one in three return. Surely we can do better.

Townsend – did he not recently buy a house in the North East. His old man was making favourable noises a few weeks back.
Cannot see this being true either – if it is I’ll be a bit disappointed.

You can tell the club has sacked its photographer.
    Good news on Dounbia, Martoon.

  • 12 expatmag // Jun 29, 2016 at 9:52 AM

    Simple matter of fact

If they dont wsnt to play for us, sell them for as much as we can get and buy players who do want to play for us.

    Morning TUFF

Did you see your pal muckraking earlier?

    Welcome to the toon Sals.

I rate Krul but Benitez builds his teams from defence so a commanding keeper is needed and Sals is one of the best at commanding his box.

The whole Gayle arbument between fans shows the referendum type split between fans.

On the one hand you have the fans that like centre forwards that can play with their back to goal (like managers such as Pardew and Pullis) and on the other hand you have fans that prefer speed and trickery.

I am with the latter camp on this so look forward to seeing Gayle in a black and white strip. We need pace up front and that guy will score goals for fun in the championship.

Lets face it, if that OAP we were looking at is valued at, at £15 million then 10 million for Gayle is an absolute steel and we will make a profit on him if we decide to get rid once promoted.

Can’r really comment on Doumbia, as no fan really can, as he wasn’t given a proper chance. Had one good shot that could’ve gone in. Good luck at a better CL team than ours.

Same goes for Saivet. Think of the chances Shelvey or Obertan, etc. were given.

    steal not steel ha ha

  • 16 Veltmann // Jun 29, 2016 at 10:09 AM

Tuff – fair and good points there. But you forgot that there is a ‘Pardew influence’ on the Townsend move 😀

  • 17 Mister Tuff // Jun 29, 2016 at 10:10 AM

    expat – morning.
I agree if they do want want to play for Newcastle/whine on with doubts – get rid of them and make some money.

I did note the input earlier wanting to know what I did for a living – very strange behaviour.
Why would these multiples be interested in somebody else to that extent.
Their motives have me puzzled must be more than just causing bother on the blog.
I can only think that it may be some sort of homo-erotic behaviour – getting some sort of thrill.
Or possibly practicing/honing their deceptive skills on an ordinary fans blog in order that they can go to other sites to groom other people for erotic or even more sinister purposes.
Anyway that’s enough of that from me as I’m sure ordinary bloggers are put off.

“Okay Matz, a few side steps to the left, little bit more…. perfect!”

  • 19 Mister Tuff // Jun 29, 2016 at 10:13 AM

Veltman – surely another factor could be King Percy recently slagging off the Toon – not going anywhere etc.
With this as a background surely NUFC would tell King Percy to clear off.

BandB – I see what you mean about the photographer – probably Charnley just uses his camera phone now – good cost saving that!

  • 21 martoon // Jun 29, 2016 at 10:30 AM

    It’s official now!

Is Carr still chief scout or is Benitez finding his own players?

  • 23 Lee Charnley Bunga Party // Jun 29, 2016 at 10:35 AM

Townsend had his most productive period in his career under Benitez in terms of assists and goals ! I was one of the people who were happy to be proved wrong as he looked a bit useless at Spurs !

Gayle has always looked decent when I have watched him play despite being played out of position so we may well be proved wrong if Rafa gets a chance to work with him !

The boy is rapid , can finish and works hard he will be a severe step up in squad depth from Riviere , Gouffran and Doumbia!!

  • 24 G // Jun 29, 2016 at 10:36 AM

I cant believe Dembele has signed for Celtic, way too good for the Scots league, expected him to go to Spurs or Gooners.

  • 25 Veltmann // Jun 29, 2016 at 10:41 AM

What’s that? Tss Tss,smelled something and sneezed.Something is wobbling left and right.
    Laters..

    morning all
glad to see we are finally making a move in the transfer market…i think the townsend rumours must have some legs unfortunately or the club, manager or player may of made a statement to deny the paper talk…he maybe just sounding them out to get newcastle to make a counter offer but we’ll have to wait and see…..gayle…he’s quick and never played many full games so could say he didnt have a chance to prove himself or he’s not good enough…undecided on him to be honest.
