I wonder which defenders Rafa has lined up. I would be happy with Skrtel. He called Klopp a dickhead so he’s okay in my book.

I hope we do get a CB and I hope he has pace.

The championship is a difficult league to play in and you need a bit of everything.

Lascelles will benefit hugely from an experienced CB. Really rate Lascelles and was worried a PL team may have come in for him.

Just hope Rafa gets his team sorted early, if you are leaving than hurry up and find a club. If not pick a peg and let’s get on with it.

Disappointed Townsend is leaving, can’t see why we can’t just loan him out for a season. Suppose if he doesn’t want to be here than its better for the team to allow him to go.

RB and LB to come in….Still think Janmaat might leave.

I think according to some reports Benitez wants up to six players, hopefully by sometime tommorow with Gayle and Ritchie signed up that would be 3, so that would a goalkeeper, forward and a winger signed, so three players left that should be two central defenders because there’s no Taylor and if reports are true no colo, so where would the last position be.

I reckon they are going to officially announce Gayle and Ritchie together, tomorrow to coincide with the first day of training. That should be a shot in the arm for the returning players.

Surely that should be the other way round. Klopp seems a top bloke, while skertel is a shaven headed, tattooed, neanderthal thug.

Novo, Skrtel’s a liability on set pieces though. Closest thing i’ve seen to a human-cross-octopus 😉

Biggest problem of all Benitez has got sort to out is that which players are we going to sign if sissoko and gini goes, hope he’s got players in mind.

Welshie, he had Ritchie in mind before we knew Andros intended bailing out, so it’s fair to assume he’ll have every angle covered. The guy’s a workaholic and leaves nothing to chance. The past has gone mate, this is Rafa. He won’t get caught out.

He doesn’t seem to be a top bloke to me. Obviously I do not know him personally, he just isn’t my cup of tea.

I’m also disappointed that Townsend has gone and can only think that it is personal reasons that he has wanted to move his lass is happier in London, it surely can’t be for footballing reasons as he is going to stagnate under Pardew. I won’t be wishing him well and saying I don’t blame him, he signed a four year deal preparing to live up here and I think he is a shallow pr!ck who is too thick too see the bigger picture. I hope Palace stay up by the skin of their teeth next year so he has to play in front of us lot.

Bobbybee – first attended SJP in 1965 if my memory serves me correctly.
Not really surprised at what players say – but when their utterings are all put together in a one time read it seems to have more impact upon the reader. Have you read the compilation yourself – I would be surprised if you did not agree with the author of the piece who suggested treachery. I can see his point.

May not be wingers as such we get, it depends how Rafa wants us to play and which formations he is going to employ.
Rafa may not know what he needs till he gets everyone back who’s coming back and sees them together

Have you considered getting a new pair of shoes.

Welsh @11 – I agree he definitely wants to get players in early so they have preseason to integrate and gel into the team. Really is a refreshing change instead of last minute panics on transfer deadline day.

Shame Townsend will head off to Palace. They have Bolasie and Zaha already. Will Bolasie play more centrally regularly?

I guess he didn’t read Alan’s 2 league wins in 2016 or whatever it ended up being. Happy stay as a full-back, Andros.

Looking forward to seeing how Matt Ritchie will do.

Mr tuff, when we first went there was loyalty, that was rewarded with a testimonial, but times have changed beyond belief. They don’t need a testimonial anymore, with their wages. It stinks sadly. The only loyalty nowadays is from the fans and the occasional local player. No doubt i would agree on the treachery, nothing shocks me re players anymore. I wasn’t having a dig marra, and i get your point entirely, i was just surprised you were surpried! They’re mainly money grabbing mercenaries and have been for years now.

Would still like to see us sign another striker / forward someone like Ings , Rodriguez or Mccormack as we need more goals and strength in depth

Also need more creativity in the middle especially if Wijnaldum and Sissoko are leaving as well as they do create lots of chances at home

So one down two to go. Sissoko and Gini. Sissoko wants out he should be let to go. Hope we can keep Gini, he’ll be amazing with Rafa. Now for a CB and one more speedy winger

Really should look to be getting Robbie Brady and Will Hughes

Should have got Brady ages ago when we had the chance hes getting better every season and was class at the euros

Also wouldn’t mind Pritchard from Spurs to add some depth

Bobbybee; Cannot blame the bloke for wanting to play in the top flight. I’m disappointed he has gone but he done his best for us while he was here, unlike some, even though he knew he had a get out clause. He could have took the money and not tried and bailed out. I believe money isn’t his motivation, he wants to play at the top level.

Well Palace are a London club, and also ambitious, and its a great atmosphere at Selhurst Park, so it’s understandable. Pardew likes his wingers, and there’s the money of course.

He is well placed to sniff the wind and so the decision may well reflect a strong wider desire among “star”players to go, and so he’s gone first, because it’s easier for him than others due to the release clause.

A clear out wouldn’t be the end of the world, but t’s most unlikely to strengthen us in the short term.

I’m cool on Townsend. He’s just an impact sub at prem level.

Do you think Rafa prefers your stand and deliver wide man (like Beckham, Nobby, Ritchie?) over runners like Townsend? Although Townsend comes inside and doesn’t get to the by line.

I dont think you will have to worry about that Rafa will get the defenders we need we wont be doing as much defending this year as we will hopefully be dominating teams ha ha

We do need better attacking options though because every team will park the bus at St James’s and our current lot struggle with that kind of game so we need people who can unlock defences !

    JFA @14
    Agree totally
decent player but is passing up the chance to play under a world class coach .Zero loyalty .
And we wonder why these members of England’s over pampered ” elite” get turned over by teams like Iceland ?
And why a Leicester eased up the premier as a proper team over teams full of superstars more interested on there Twitter accounts and other selfish agendas ?
I too hope we see him at st James again ,hopefully either back stagnating on the bench as per his Spurs days or even better playing left back

Novo, i can understand his wanting to play at the top level, but seriously? Palace? Not really top level and could easily get relegated. No, my point was about the bollox they come out with and kissing the badge one minute and asking to leave the next. Loyalty – or the lack of it.

I feel let down by him as it just doesn’t seem to matter what bollox they come out with. It will be very interesting to hear is reasons on joining Palace. If I could be arsed I’d like to do a one of those what he says against what he means. It can’t be for the money or trophies he has left,

A footballers career is short. Newcastle are three seasons minimum from reestablishing themselves as an epl club. Loyalty is a word bandied about by fans, but the club is to blame, mismanagement took us down, and Townsend did more than anyone to try and save us.
