News that Newcastle are interested in signing former Manchester United and Tottenham striker Dimitar Berbatov, who at 35 has just been released by Greek side PAOK after one year at the club, when he scored 5 goals in 25 appearances.
There are various reports that the 35 year-old striker is in talks with two Championship clubs and since Newcastle have money and we found it difficult to score goals last season – we suppose it’s natural for journalists to bring up Newcastle as one of the possible suitors.
Dimitar Berbatov tackled by Cheick Tiote while the Bulgarian was at Fulham
The Bulgarian striker still has class but his style of play and age probably wouldn’t attract Rafa Benitez.
Rafa is building a squad for the future at Newcastle and wants players who can mature into good Premier League players once we are hopefully promoted next May.
Berbatov scored 48 goals in 78 appearances for Bulgaria and former Newcastle great Alan Shearer was his idol when he was growing up.
Newcastle have just signed 25 year-old Dwight Gayle for around £9M from Crystal Palace and we probably need one more striker brought in to challenge Aleksandar Mitrovic in the coming season.
But Rafa will not pay a massive £15M for Fulham striker Ross McCormack, who Newcastle have been linked with over the summer, but he turns 30 in August.
Local lad 19 year-old Adam Armstrong is also available and could make the Newcastle first team squad for next season.
Dimitar scored 46 goals in 102 appearances for Tottenham Hotspur and then scored 56 goals in 149 appearances after his big money move to Manchester United for £31M in the summer of 2008.
It’s a good story but we are sure Rafa is not interested – but we’ve been wrong before.

Comment #123I wouldn’t want a 35 yr old Berbatov but a free agent Robson-Kanu would be good

Comment #124Well. We are NEVER going to hear the end of it, but Wales totally deserved that. Playing as a team, with a couple of plans, and not bottling it as soon as they go behind. A team grown from the seeds that Gary Speed (rip) planted

EVERY Welshman acknowledges and thanks Gary Speed from the bottom of their hearts as we all know he started this journey for us. I wish so much he could see this day as he truly was a good man. Curse the black dog that took him.
Chris Coleman nearly jacked it in when we got beat by Croatia, but he has been brilliant in building a team, and he himself called a blinder – great decisions, substitutions, and great hwyl in the team, with no prima donnas.

Comment #129Goes to show we are not a one man team when Bale didn’t even score against a very good Belgium side with quality premiership players.

Don’t think he will go to Liverpool, he’s been moaning about wanting to play champions league football.

Comment #132Leicester city showed it this season and now we see it being shown by wales. A team performs best when each and every player works together and is well organised, hazard and cost had some problems last season and chelsea didn’t even make it into the top4. Man city were either leaking too many goals or failing to get back at teams and score they were too reliant on kompany and aguero. Manure were playing very boring football not attractive to the club but what could they play when they were so unorgatised as a team, rooney himself was used all over the place.
Football is called a team sport not an idivigual sport. You can have as many messi and ronaldo in your team as you like but without decent orgasiation and players will be left right and centre and not know what to do which is just what england did.
