Please Help Gallowgate Flags Make Newcastle Great Again

7:13 pm, Saturday, July 2nd, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 51 Comments

Gallowgate Flags are starting to get the attention they deserve.

On their own initiative some season ticket holders in the Gallowgate end have taken it upon themselves to create and produce flags that will be used during the Newcastle games.

They have already met with Newcastle officials and have received the club’s blessing and support to go ahead with their exciting project.

gallowgate flags

But here – let the Gallowgate Flags guys explain:

We are a group of season ticket holders from the Strawberry Corner looking to build on the positivity from the appointment of Rafa Benitez as Newcastle United manager.

Our sole aim is to improve the atmosphere at St James’ Park through positive support and visual displays to aid the team.

We’re normal, match going fans, like you. We’ve established a positive relationship with NUFC and are grateful for their understanding and support.

We’re raising money to play for the flag designs and will continue to do so all season. The money raised will also go to the costs of the website we created –

We aim to communicate with fans as much as we can to help choose flag design and various displays we have planned.

You can follow us on twitter @gallowgateflags and the same handle on Instagram.

We’re massively grateful to anyone who can pledge what they can – the results will be spectacular.

Come on United.

Help spread the word!

This is very worthwhile cause.

Just  think in a couple of years we’ll need those flags and banners as we will be back in the Champions League and the fans will be traveling all over Europe as we have long cup runs both in Europe and in the local cups in England.

Well that’s Rafa’s plan anyway.

We can practice this coming season in the Championship as a forerunner to the Champions League!

Please see if you can support the Gallowgate Flags with donations which they will need to create and produce the flags – let’s help make Newcastle great again.

Here’s where you can donate to this very worthy cause.

Here’s their web-site

Here’s their Twitter account.

Let’s work together as Rafa Benitez has asked us all to do – for the good of Newcastle United.

Great Idea. I loved it when we had flags!

  • 2 carl // Jul 2, 2016 at 7:38 PM

Great idea. The dinosaurs at NUST are livid. Sleeping at the wheel.

  • 3 Jail for Ashley // Jul 2, 2016 at 7:40 PM

We have just bought three players the ‘manager’ has identified that might not have sell on value. The training facilities have been massively upgraded. The manager has rang a radio station off his own back without KB telling him what to say and Munster is banging his Rafa snare drum that all is not well. I bet he wishes Rafa would do one so he can get his great big steel band Carr drum out the cupboard and give that a good sounding!

Please Ed and I think I speak for everybody when I say cut it on the “Champions League in a couple of years” stuff. It makes us all look like deluded twats.

On subject I really like the idea of more flags and scarfs swirling around the ground on match days again. It would be great for the camers to see a gigantic flag being passed along from one end of St James’ to the other.

  • 5 Belfast // Jul 2, 2016 at 7:43 PM

Creating my own one at the moment.

“Have you seen Jesper about ??”

  • 6 Belfast // Jul 2, 2016 at 7:46 PM

    Flying it at Aarhus.

  • 7 carl // Jul 2, 2016 at 7:50 PM

Just don’t let Jail be responsible for getting flags into the ground. I remember reading of stewards at Goodison Park doing a strip search and making him leave his flag outside.
    Jesper has already donated.

  • 8 jane // Jul 2, 2016 at 7:51 PM

wonder if Leicester would have won the Premier league without noise makers. these things make a difference.

  • 9 jane // Jul 2, 2016 at 7:52 PM

these things can make a difference.

  • 10 Jail for Ashley // Jul 2, 2016 at 7:55 PM

Ian you can’t help but mess up can you, the only other person to mention NUST on her other than Jib is Ian Toon who has quite a thing about having a go at them, Ian also seemed to glory in the fact that flag was taken from me at Goodison. Strip search?? It was in my hand you multiple goon.

  • 11 carl // Jul 2, 2016 at 7:56 PM

Certainly seem to an Anfield under Klopp.

  • 12 Jail for Ashley // Jul 2, 2016 at 7:57 PM

Well as my ST is in the Strawberry Corner I have e mailed them and will be donating.

  • 13 Jail for Ashley // Jul 2, 2016 at 7:58 PM

    Ian, (c)arl,
Will you stop addressing me. You’re goose is cooked everyone worth his or her salt knows you’re game. Give it up.

  • 14 Belfast // Jul 2, 2016 at 8:00 PM

Aye I’d heard that story Carl.

Was he wearing his purple Adrimal shell suit that time?

  • 15 DG MAGPIE // Jul 2, 2016 at 8:02 PM

Great idea! I will be participating , sharing , donating & rocking up to SJP making noise this season 🙂

  • 17 carl // Jul 2, 2016 at 8:02 PM

Where’s your sense of humour sunshine. I am a long time reader and someone invited to represent NUST. That was before I realised they weren’t operating for the good of the club but themselves. Treating mp’s like royalty but not recognising 30 year ST holders with respect.
You are always mentioning Ian Toon but some of us read the blog and have powers of recall.

  • 18 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Jul 2, 2016 at 8:04 PM

Pity the TOON or England couldn’t have something like the Italian national anthem – brilliant knocks the spots of the dirge ‘God save the Queen’

If that don’t rouse the fans players – nowt will

  • 19 carl // Jul 2, 2016 at 8:05 PM

I don’t remember that but sounds highly likely. You wear loose gear so you can wrap flags / banners around its standard toon army practice.

  • 20 carl // Jul 2, 2016 at 8:08 PM

I assure you I won’t be donating for anyone but myself.

  • 21 Jail for Ashley // Jul 2, 2016 at 8:11 PM

    (c)arl/Ian etc.
Keep kidding you’re self. You’re goose is cooked.

  • 22 welshgeordie9 // Jul 2, 2016 at 8:14 PM

Pleased with the signings but we are now worse off than where we were, having lost townsend and set to lose krul sissoko wiji janmaat etc. Rafa has failed to shake up the hugely underperforming coaching set up at nufc but at least carr isnt wasting our resources on mondial jessies.

I disagree we worse off, we have added a goalkeeper so we’ve got 5 goal keepers so at least one can go we’ve added Gayle to our forward line and so far we have got 6 so one can go, Townsend has been replaced so will the others, our priority right now is defence, how many do we need, once that’s done then as long as know one else leave we will be fine, cisse, gourffran should do well if called upon as well, would be nice if rivière could do it but might be asking a bit too much there, those players have struggled in the prem but might get a way with it in the championship.

  • 23 welshgeordie9 // Jul 2, 2016 at 8:16 PM

That was a comment for Munster from previous article.

  • 24 welshgeordie9 // Jul 2, 2016 at 8:17 PM

Now we have got 3 players in, I think we don’t need many more, just add a few defenders without anyone leaving we will do very well this season.

  • 26 Yo-yo // Jul 2, 2016 at 8:20 PM

Goose is a very fatty fowl. Best to skim the roasting bird, give it the odd baste then do yer roasts in the hot goose fat.

  • 27 welshgeordie9 // Jul 2, 2016 at 8:24 PM

Was reading an article about how Dwight Gayle can get 20-30 goals this season if you put him in the right formation, basically this guy said that the best formation for him would be 442, apparently he struggles with 4231, if that’s the case then if sissoko and Gini are still here then you won’t get the best out of them because they will be on the wings.

  • 28 welshgeordie9 // Jul 2, 2016 at 8:26 PM

I’m sure Gayle would do well anywhere on the pitch.

  • 29 jane // Jul 2, 2016 at 8:28 PM

Gayle and Richie are suited to the Championship IMO.

  • 30 bettyswallocks // Jul 2, 2016 at 8:32 PM

Jail……. Did you manage to get the flag back or did they keep it?

  • 31 Lindisfarne // Jul 2, 2016 at 8:35 PM

    I’m already flagging.

  • 32 Jail for Ashley // Jul 2, 2016 at 8:39 PM

England would have been torn apart if we’d scraped a win against Iceland!

  • 33 Jail for Ashley // Jul 2, 2016 at 8:40 PM

I got it back after the game.

  • 34 bettyswallocks // Jul 2, 2016 at 8:44 PM

Jail…. Ok well done. Be careful with that goose , it could have escaped from prison which would make it a loose goose and a jail bird.

  • 35 Jail for Ashley // Jul 2, 2016 at 8:44 PM

Ian Toon made a big deal of it, nobody else mentioned it or has remembered it,it was three years ago. (c)arl remembers a steward actually took it off me. Howay!!!

  • 36 bettyswallocks // Jul 2, 2016 at 8:49 PM

Jail….. @13. The goose isn’t really a game bird more a domestic fowl. It does need the salt though.

  • 37 bettyswallocks // Jul 2, 2016 at 8:51 PM

Maybe Ian Toon and carl are the same poster. What say you carl?

  • 38 Jail for Ashley // Jul 2, 2016 at 8:54 PM

It is without doubt, OJ Simpson and Oscar Pretortious look less guilty!

  • 39 Belfast // Jul 2, 2016 at 8:57 PM

There’s definitely a shed somewhere with a lot of photographs of Jail getting his flag confiscated. Probably pinned on a dartboard. 🙂

  • 40 Jib // Jul 2, 2016 at 9:02 PM

If you think Geese are not game birdsYou don’t kmow the Northumbrian coast

  • 41 bettyswallocks // Jul 2, 2016 at 9:04 PM carl….. Is this your latest disguise?

  • 42 Mister Tuff // Jul 2, 2016 at 9:04 PM

no maybes’ about it Ian Toon = carl (the little c).
Not only is his goose cooked it’s lying at the bottom of the oven cooked to a crisp.
Strange he mentioned Jail getting strip searched – clearly he has homo-erotic visions when he appears on the blog. Very creepy.

Looks like SJP will have a cracking atmosphere next season. I’m trying to resist the urge to come and see a game…haven’t been since Keegan left for the second time and Ashley’s game was revealed to be one of money making and not the best interests of the club. Do I break that now to add my support to the players for our promotion push?

The optimism around the club is contagious.

  • 45 Mister Tuff // Jul 2, 2016 at 9:07 PM

Geese are not game birds you dope.

  • 46 bettyswallocks // Jul 2, 2016 at 9:09 PM

Jib…… Ok, I will concede that the wild geese depicted are game birds.

We were discussing the farmed goose I thought without wanting to split feathers.

  • 47 carl // Jul 2, 2016 at 9:09 PM

    Sorry getting a drink won!!

  • 48 Jib // Jul 2, 2016 at 9:14 PM

Van Morrison is on tomorrow evening and Monday too at the Slieve Donnard Hotel at the other Newcastle .

  • 49 bettyswallocks // Jul 2, 2016 at 9:17 PM

Jib….. It would appear that Mr. Tuff’s comprehensive list has proven that geese are not in face game birds. It seems you would like to categorise all birds as being game which could lead us into troubled waters again if we’re not careful.

  • 50 Jib // Jul 2, 2016 at 9:25 PM

Of course wild geese are game-birds so are ducks – wildfowl but also game.

  • 51 Jail for Ashley // Jul 2, 2016 at 9:30 PM

Vorsprung durch Technik. Unbelievable football from the Gormans!
