Rafa Benitez – We Have More Players Ready To Come In

We reported last night that Newcastle could be in for Spanish U21 International full back Jonny Otto, who can play in either full back position and the news over the weekend was that Rafa wanted to bring in three new defenders this week and hopefully before the squad leaves for Ireland on Saturday.

Rafa Benitez has today said that Newcastle have more deals lined up and as we also reported last night he again reiterated the club do not have to sell this summer.

Rafa Benitez – brought in two players used to the Championship
Matt Richie and Dwight Gayle

Rafa was asked yesterday about any progress in the transfer market and this is what the manager told the local press:

“We were working to get some players ready, and then we did three in a row.”

“We are still working.”  “We have some players there and ready.” “

The difficult thing about the market is that you have to buy and you have to sell.”

“So that depends on if you receive offers for players that maybe we consider that they can leave, and after, also, try to find the right players for us.”

“It was important for me that we could bring in players that could understand English football.”

“The Championship is quite difficult.” “They understand what it means to play here and the physicality and intensity of the game.”

“With Gayle, it’s the pace, movement and finishing he can give to us.” “I think we have a good addition. He can increase the competition.”

“Ritchie is another player that knows the division. He has energy and quality.”

Newcastle have signed Dwight Gayle, 26, from Crystal Palace for £9M and initially we have paid £10M for 26-year-old midfielder Matt Ritchie from Bournemouth.

The first signing this summer was goalkeeper Matz Sels from Gent for around £5M and we sold Andros Townsend to Crystal Palace for £13M – via the release clause in his contract.

So that’s the state of things officially so far, although we expect Coloccini to be released as soon as we get a replacement in – and Remy Cabella will be signed by Marseille for around £7.3M.

If those deals happen then here is where we are with the transfers.

Even Mike Ashley has to be happy with those numbers. Hope the Otto rumours are true.

Two CB’s and a LB and I think we’re done. I like Lilongwe’s suggesting of someone like Wheater and a big fee quality one. People are arguing that if we get a stop gap like Wheater that we might as well keep Collo. I don’t agree, we have come to our natural end with him, he doesn’t want to be here and I don’t think many want him to stay. It saves him being stripped of the captaincy and will go a long way to ridding the defence of that losing mentality. He has been the one constant in one of the worst defences in the league over the past four years.

When Rafa was interviewed at Benton by Sky yesterday he could hardly stop grinning when talking about transfers in .
I think we have an earth-shaker waiting in the wings.

We could probably get Caulker and Hanley for about 5 million each both have experience of Premiership and Championship and have potential to be better under Rafas coaching !

Then get that Johnny from Celta Vigo before any of the big teams are aware of it!!

For me we still need a more wingers we have let 4 go this window and only brought in 1 !! We lack serious creativity from either side which we need more of to break teams down !

Aarons and Richie are good but wont be able to play 46 games in a row so we need other specialist wingers to play and rotate

Doesnt anyone else read into the following:

“The difficult thing about the market is that you have to buy and you have to sell.”

Meaning that he needs to sell before he can buy again?

There’s no way 3 defenders be coming in by the weekend if we have got to sell first, what happens to the ones supposed to be waiting to ciome in, they not going to wait for ever.

Also if we have got to wait for players to leave and nothing happens from now to the end of the window, then what happens to our defence because no one have left.
