Fans Take To Twitter After Sissoko’s Performance For France

10:37 pm, Thursday, July 7th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 61 Comments

France hung on in the first half tonight in the semifinals of Euro 2016 when they were outclassed by Germany,  but then a rather stupid penalty was given away by Bastian Schweinsteiger just before half time as he handled the ball from a corner.

Antoine Griezmann scored for the penalty spot and that turned the game.

Then Griezmann got a second goal in the second half after sloppy defending from Germany and after that the Germans just couldn’t score and looked frustrated against a France team that defended very well.

Moussa Sissoko played well against Germany

Moussa Sissoko had another good game and his value will have gone up in the transfer market and even more so if he starts in the final on Sunday against Portugal and France are favorites to win and become European Champions.

And just case anybody didn’t know our commentator for the game Ian Dark on ESPN  said a few times that Moussa wants to leave Newcastle this summer.

Here are some tweets from Newcastle fans after the match – and some of the frustration comes out because he hardly played like that for Newcastle last season.

It’s amazing what a player can do with confidence and the teammates to back him up. At least when you have raw talent he does.

  • 2 martoon // Jul 7, 2016 at 10:47 PM

Sissoko worked hard and did put a shift in but he did nothing going forward. He seems too frightened to make one his runs for France and always stops and then passes backwards or at best sideways.

  • 3 Wayayman // Jul 7, 2016 at 10:53 PM

Same old same old. He catches the eye of those who just look where the ball is. The other fans who watch the actual game can see how he just doesn’t have the killer instinct it the skill to make it at the top level. Real shame cos I actually do think he’s a good lad, he just hasn’t got a football brain. It’s possible he is actually overachieving with what little football talent he has. He’s more like a 400 m runner who can run with a ball.

  • 4 Laurent Robert 32 // Jul 7, 2016 at 10:59 PM

Manx, the tactics of the team then didn’t help one bit. I sit right in front of his line of attack at the front rows of the stadium and he’d sprint forward and make his way back as he got his breath back. He’s not super human, he can’t sprint 3/4 of the pitch and sprint all the way back again and do it all game. Impossible. Other teams do it because they have balance around the pitch as a unit.

If the team was better organised, he could have attacked in a more balanced way whilst the winger does the main crossing of the ball (although Jonas was shocking at crossing). Coached to concentrate on his defending and improve him. He’s not getting that under under your mate Pinocchio. Under Rafa, he would be much improved.

Santon, full back, acted as an attacking winger, yet Jonas, a winger acted as a fullback. Needless running and energy exertion whilst the team sat back. Crap.

  • 5 manxpie // Jul 7, 2016 at 11:08 PM

lol you do know hes now going to sunderland says it all really
    he wasn’t very good
i said a couple of weeks ago i’d much rather have dummett at LB than some pleasing on the eye player that does nothing except that
    i.e santon
colo went down hill when santon played aswell as hiadara as he was always in no mans land
i’d rather a defender was 1st and foremost good at defending i think rafa does too

  • 6 manxpie // Jul 7, 2016 at 11:14 PM

is debuchy super human he managed it fine
so did enrique even anita in the last few games

  • 7 Belfast // Jul 7, 2016 at 11:20 PM

Watched Santon on a number of occasions from he left and he’s been very poor, especially one of the Milan derbies when he was terrible.

I actually always liked him, but I don’t think we’re missing out on much.

  • 8 Belfast // Jul 7, 2016 at 11:23 PM

And let’s face it if he was pulling up trees in Italy he wouldn’t be for sale and especially at that price.

Leeds full back a much better option imo.

  • 9 Laurent Robert 32 // Jul 7, 2016 at 11:23 PM

Debuchy was a good defender in a lot of games, good going forward. I liked him a lot. Enrique did a lot better after being in Championship and people found it difficult to get by him as he’d do his block and slow down tactic. Both would also get their breath back as they went back slower. I watched them.

I liked Santon, but there are better players. He’s certainly not crap.

  • 10 Laurent Robert 32 // Jul 7, 2016 at 11:26 PM

I haven’t seen him in Italy, Belfast, as I don’t have BT Sports. But if that’s your opinion, OK.

Again, there are better and worse players out there.

  • 11 Belfast // Jul 7, 2016 at 11:27 PM

I could be just choosing his bad days by accident Laurent lol

  • 12 manxpie // Jul 7, 2016 at 11:28 PM

nah its all pardews fault belfast so was brexit and the iraq war
looking forward to an ashley vs the leeds nutter tho should be pay per view

  • 13 Our Toon // Jul 7, 2016 at 11:29 PM

    Wayayman & Martoon

Sissoko was very good tonight, really worked hard, helped Sagna no end, the fact he stayed on and they took off a massively ineffective Payet shows just how well he played. Wayayman sissoko off the ball was better than on the ball so if anyone was ball watching it was you. What a semi final that was to watch, the atmosphere was unbelievable under the roof, noise was unreal

  • 14 Laurent Robert 32 // Jul 7, 2016 at 11:35 PM

    Belfast, maybe!

Manx, 2 league wins in 2016 for your man I think it was. Who knows what monstrosities he could infect. The King – of spin.

  • 15 Belfast // Jul 7, 2016 at 11:37 PM

I said today I fancied Leeds to have a good season if the mad Italian kept his nose out and from then they’ve agreed to sell their best player to Bournemouth and the mad Italian has fallen out with their full back lol

  • 16 Laurent Robert 32 // Jul 7, 2016 at 11:37 PM

If Sissoko has to leave, then France’s advancement will help with his sale value and negotiation leverage for sure.

  • 17 manxpie // Jul 7, 2016 at 11:39 PM

laurent i just find it funny that you still blame pardews tactics about an ex player who is now going to the scum
he wasn’t very good at his job and its now getting realised
couldn’t give a damn wat pardew does now

  • 18 manxpie // Jul 7, 2016 at 11:45 PM

funny how sisko wants to be a number 10 and constantly spouts it as his best position
and then gets rave reviews playing as a RWB
20 mill + bite there hands off

  • 19 SPRINGY // Jul 7, 2016 at 11:46 PM

always thought santon should of been tried at rb or right wing back….never really liked him at left back, looked uncomfortable defending and very predictable going forward.

  • 20 Laurent Robert 32 // Jul 7, 2016 at 11:51 PM

Shoddy tactics and manager were there regardless of whether it affected Santon.

We have a proper manager now. One guy, and look at all the positives and good that has developed since his arrival.

    Yours sincerely,

Crew, mob, gang, rabble, unit, team, group aka Nostradamus.

  • 21 Munster Mag // Jul 7, 2016 at 11:53 PM

Please guys, get this right. Santon is a crap defender, end of. Please dont demonstrate your football ignorance by saying he was good. Or blaming pardew. The man is just not very good. Sunderland can have him.

  • 22 manxpie // Jul 7, 2016 at 11:59 PM

pushing it a bit there aren’t you laurent?
we had mcclaren and carver and by the greatest bit of luck rafa came as he thought he could save us
    we got relegated
the whole of the fan base made him stay not the rabble mob or crew

  • 23 Tsunki // Jul 8, 2016 at 12:04 AM

Back passage man post 65 previous article – have you been buying herb from a dodgy shaman? What was your incoherent ( more so than usual anyway) about, exactly? I’d leave the varnish in the shed next time pumpkin.

  • 24 manxpie // Jul 8, 2016 at 12:09 AM

watch it tsunki you’ll have tuff on ya i think ya mean 68 lol

  • 25 Laurent Robert 32 // Jul 8, 2016 at 12:09 AM

The want and need for change from a mug to a proper manager for the benefit of the club. It’s what the crew, rabble, mob, unit, group wanted all along. That occurred, the development starts. No brainer.

  • 26 Our Toon // Jul 8, 2016 at 12:13 AM

On Santon, I wonder how much of this move is driven by his lass, she would most likely want to return to the north east and Sunderland makes sense for him, her and their child. Good luck to him, we’ll see just how bad a defender he is under fat sham.

Manx – yes sissoko sees himself as a no10 and prefers to play centrally but it’s a no brainer between him and griezmann as to who plays that position, the fact he played so well tonight both defensively and in terms of carrying out tactics shows he is more versatile, griezmann was ineffective playing out wide earlier in the tournament…..good luck to him to, he’s made noises to leave but didn’t go to that massive club named Palace like someone did recently, a player I was constantly told wouldn’t leave as he loved this club, the manager and the fans!!

  • 27 Laurent Robert 32 // Jul 8, 2016 at 12:18 AM

Townsend going there is ridiculous for the sake of (hopefully) a season.

  • 28 Mister Tuff // Jul 8, 2016 at 12:20 AM

Payet being substituted means Sissoko played well – do not get that at all.
Whilst Sissoko did not disgrace himself – he did chase back several times helping out the defence -but off the ball he is terrible.
I specifically watched him tonight and when the Germans had the ball he floated into no mans land not marking anyone – whether he was instructed not to tightly mark but to get between available players (opposition) to hedge his bets and close down using his speed energy when appropriate. But to say he was better off the ball is very very debatable at best and incorrect at the worst.

  • 29 manxpie // Jul 8, 2016 at 12:27 AM

laurent ya cant deny the unbelievable luck tho as i said it was the WHOLE fan base that made rafa stay and i as a fan give my many many thanks to ALL stadium goers

ourtoon i didn’t think andros was that stupid tbh but it really shows how footballers think
i mean we saved him from nothing 6 months ago got him close to the euros (he should have gone) and thats wat he’s done ridiculous
    he’ll regret it no doubt
on sisko strange how imo he’s played best for us out wide but totally inconsistent (which we were warned about) but people still say he should be central where he has been shocking
would rather have a player that wants to be here with specialist skills for their posistion and consistant tbh

  • 30 Our Toon // Jul 8, 2016 at 12:31 AM

    Mister Tuff

I was at the match, France were being over run so allowed the fullbacks of Germany to bomb on with Payet and Sissoko staying narrow to ensure no runners got through. When the ball went wide which ever was defending that side went out to close full back down. This was mainly because muller wasn’t going to be threat from crosses and because Gomez was missing. In France more people were discussing the work rate of sissoko and his something he didn’t have for us at any point…..his willingness to fight for the cause, he stayed on the pitch because defensively he was brilliant, strong on the ball and defensively, sensible in picking times to run with the ball, covering for the full back as and when needed. That’s why Payet was taken off and sissoko was kept on.

Matudi was struggling, in fact he was awful, yet payet Frances 2nd best player this tournament was taken off as he was ineffective. Let’s not forget everyone thought sissoko was going to make the numbers up, he was 3rd choice for that position when the tournament started and has fought for his position in this team, I think hatred of sissoko plays into fans opinion of what they see unfortunately

  • 31 manxpie // Jul 8, 2016 at 12:34 AM

infact against spurs i thought rafa did the wrong sub thing on purpose to show the little %&&&&*^^ how much support he had and to chuck it back in his and our faces is unbelievable

  • 32 Our Toon // Jul 8, 2016 at 12:35 AM

France weren’t closing down players but sittong deep and closing down the space centrally so Kroos and Ozil couldn’t cause problems, occupy an area rather than close down and leave gaps to be exploited

  • 33 Our Toon // Jul 8, 2016 at 12:46 AM

I honestly don’t think many ambitious players would want to be with us, for the record I don’t like Sissoko because of his attitude bit that’s on the pitch. I have no issues with a player coming out saying they want CL football, I’d never ridicule a player for that and I have no problem with him using us as a stepping stone because that’s what we are, I would however be surprised if he chose to leave us for a team like Palace.

Under Ashley I honestly think we entice players by telling them they can get a move to a bigger club or CL team by playing for us. If you want to win things you don’t join nufc. He needs to prove on the pitch that he’s worthy of a CL team which he hasn’t done in my eyes but he’s showed fight in him over last 2 games which is a real disappointment as he hasn’t done that for us. I’m still not bitter towards him though, Ashley has turned us into this type of club of is going nowhere

Let’s not forget players leave CL teams in France for mediocre teams in PL and I class us as one of those former mediocre teams in the prem as we are now a strong team for the championship. Fans need to be realistic and get a grip without taking things personally… the townsend joining palace, as you say we pulled him from playing for u21s and he repayed it by jumping ship before any of our other players

  • 34 manxpie // Jul 8, 2016 at 12:46 AM

ourtoon my point is and many many others is he doesn’t ever do it consistantly tho so its not blind hatred just that we know he has the ability but hardly ever shows it

  • 35 Mister Tuff // Jul 8, 2016 at 12:49 AM

Out Toon – thanks for your further update. I do not doubt Sissokos’ work rate at all – I really do not think he is truly an international player.
I’ve posted many times about Toulouse fans saying he was a fifty/fifty player – decent game then poor game.
He scored about 20 goals in 6 years at Toulouse and 11 for us and one for France. not an immense return for a forward.
Superb athlete but I think we could get a better player easily out of the dosh we’ll get for him.

  • 36 Our Toon // Jul 8, 2016 at 12:49 AM

Only 2 players in the world are consistent, Ronaldo and Messi. The rest have peaks and troffs throughout a season. Anyway I’m off to enjoy the party atmosphere. Have fun all

  • 37 Mister Tuff // Jul 8, 2016 at 12:51 AM

Our Toon – certainly agree players were sold a line to entice them to sign.

  • 38 Mister Tuff // Jul 8, 2016 at 12:53 AM

Our Toon – are you going to the final in Paris – if so lucky s*d.

  • 39 Our Toon // Jul 8, 2016 at 12:54 AM

    Mister Tuff

Before I go, I think it’s very unlikely in today’s market we can get a better for the same price or less…..especially in the current climate of massively over inflated prices. Today Ibe left Liverpool for 15m, Leicester were knocked back when they offered 25m for the mighty Troy Deeney that’s just 2 examples. If he goes I won’t shed a tear, if he stays I won’t spit my dummy out unless he shows no fight at all. Take care mate catch up soon

  • 40 manxpie // Jul 8, 2016 at 12:59 AM

i actually think thats changed under rafa ourtoon
we’ve seen player drop a league to be here which is brilliant
ritchie was a huge part of bournmouths success
sisko came for a very cheap price and was nowhere near champions league so i cant take his arrogance tbh
i agree previously ashleys mandate was we will get you your big move
but unbelievably he seems to have learnt his very long and drawn out lesson (failure)
it shouldn’t happen again under rafa

  • 41 Our Toon // Jul 8, 2016 at 12:59 AM

We have 2 corporate tickets for final, left the missus and rewarded my 2 best employees, I will pay over the odds to get a ticket to sit with the fans, if I can’t get a ticket then I’ll watch it on the big screen in the fan zone and let the 2 employees enjoy the atmosphere. They’ve worked incredibly hard over the past 2 years and it’s only right they get rewarded ahead of my selfish needs. Come on France and come on the toon looming forward to this season. In answer to you Mister Tuff…. I hope I get a ticket to watch the game

  • 42 jimmysmith // Jul 8, 2016 at 1:02 AM

Santon is “utter shite”, “crap”. Dear me. He’s battled injury throughout his career, and still managed 150 first team appearances for Inter Milan in Serie A, and Newcastle in the EPL, and over 40 appearances for Italy, 8 at full International level, and he’s still only 25.

He’s one of these better players we’ve had over the Ashley years, that’s been a victim of too few quality players on the pitch with him, and in too few positions, much like Sissoko or Collocini, who also attract a disproportionate level of criticism, at least on here.

He’s no Paolo Maldini, but c’mon, like Janmaat will this season should he stay, he’d have more than done the job for us at LB under Benitez.

  • 43 manxpie // Jul 8, 2016 at 1:07 AM

even in todays market we could get alot better for a much better price as we are in the championship
that 6 foot 6 defender scored more goals than sisko in far less games in the championship lol (in jest) but surely ya see my point

  • 44 John Tudor // Jul 8, 2016 at 1:09 AM

yes, certainly sissoko knows of this trough

  • 45 Mister Tuff // Jul 8, 2016 at 2:19 AM

Our Toon – good stuff – hope you get your ticket.
There were some news updates from the fans zone in front of the Eiffel Tower – the atmosphere looked tremendous.
Will be electric in Paris on Sunday enjoy your trip.

  • 46 jimmysmith // Jul 8, 2016 at 5:50 AM

That’s it for Sissoko. He’ll do the same in the final, which will show for certain he’s worth a place at a Champions league club. Our loss, but we will be well compensated.

  • 47 Mitrogoal // Jul 8, 2016 at 6:31 AM

Of course he played well. He was on TV.

  • 48 lesh // Jul 8, 2016 at 6:33 AM

Let’s hope Sissoko has a blinder in the final, attracts interest from the Spanish giants and draws massive bids.

I’m not keen on the notion of him going anywhere in the Prem apart from the big three of Citeh, Man Utd or Arsenal. I’d hate to think of him giving a leg up to the likes of Liverpool who’ll (hopefully) be among our opposition in 2017-18.

  • 49 jimmysmith // Jul 8, 2016 at 6:49 AM

Well he’ll go to a better team than us, and should tell you something.

  • 50 Toon_Barmy // Jul 8, 2016 at 7:15 AM

Can’t believe the fans who say they don’t want this guy near our first team. Imagine if we were just signing him on the back of the Euros, we’d be dancing in the streets. Absolutely unplayable against Spurs. Worked his nuts off. That’s what Rafa can get out of him. If he stays he will tear championship defences to shreds

  • 51 Ron Knee // Jul 8, 2016 at 7:19 AM

He can use his power to amazing effect, but how often does that happen?

  • 52 Jib // Jul 8, 2016 at 7:35 AM

One of the Chronicle’s sister papers is saying Spurs are being asked £25 million for Wijnaldum.

If we get a similar amount for Sissoko – fifty million into the coffers for those two is brilliant business.
They are both the type of hot and cold showy poser that would get found out big style in the Championship

  • 53 expatmag // Jul 8, 2016 at 7:37 AM

    Spot on

  • 54 Jib // Jul 8, 2016 at 7:44 AM

  • 55 The overrated Frenchman // Jul 8, 2016 at 7:45 AM

I get as frustrated as anybody with Sissoko, but really he has only ever been part of a very poor Newcastle team and played (mostly) under utterly dismal managers. No doubt he has weaknesses but how many players don’t? And his strengths are pretty phenomenal. In a top team (with a top manager) his mistakes can be compensated for by the good players around him which hasn’t been the case at Newcastle. In a curious way he’s probably right when he says he should be at a better (eg CL) club. Even with Rafa we are still a Championship team after all.

  • 56 expatmag // Jul 8, 2016 at 8:06 AM

Of course he is right. He is a CL player and proving it right now with his national team.

I dont think there is any doubt at all that these lads have been led down the garden path by plethra of lies promises and false dawns by a clearly corrupt management system. I include the likes if Cabaye HBA Debuchy Ba etc in this. We were and are never more than a stepping stone to better things.

I would be more than happy to see Sissoko and Wijnaldum go and prove themselves at the top level as long as we get top dollar for them and we also get that money to spebd rather than seeing it go into the slimeballs back pocket

  • 57 expatmag // Jul 8, 2016 at 8:08 AM

So, when does the squad leave for Ireland?

If it us today, lets hope Gamez and Hanley nay be on biard too

  • 58 Lilongwe Geordie // Jul 8, 2016 at 8:21 AM

Sissoko played well last night. He worked hard, and defended well. Ineffectual going forward, but that was in a large part due to Germany’s dominance. The few chances he had to deliver good balls into the box, he fluffed his lines, but they were few and far between. It was a hardworking functional performance from him, something that he rarely, if ver produced for us when we were under pressure in games. Still, he did it well, and congrats on making the final.

IT was a big stage though, and a shop window, so it was fairly predictable he would put in the effort. The fact it was those sorts of games he performed well in consistently for us would suggest that saying the team and tactics dragged him down is a bit of a fallacy. It is an attitude thing.

He isn’t good enough for a Champions league clubs starting 11, unless he went to a lesser club ad league. International football is a far poorer standard for the most part than elite club football, and this tournament demonstrates that given there are more players from the Championship than most other European leagues.

Hopefully this will get someone to bid for him, he doesn’t want to be here, and hasn’t for a couple of years. His performances on pitch and attitude have shown that, so we should just let him move on, and wish him all the best when he does.

  • 59 martoon // Jul 8, 2016 at 8:22 AM

If Gamez is here there is normally a grainy photo of him at the airport or entering the ground etc. but I haven’t seen one – there is a challenge for you Jib 😀

  • 60 Jib // Jul 8, 2016 at 8:29 AM

According to the Shields Gazette early next week

  • 61 welshgeordie9 // Jul 8, 2016 at 8:32 AM

According to the local papers in Newcastle, we are are close to signing Gamez and Hanley and hoping to sign them both before jetting off, first of all yes Gamez is close and should be done although there’s was nothing yesterday to say he’d arrived, Hanley on the other hand, there’s no way he’s going to sign before going, we havent made a bid yet, so we hardly going to agree a fee, personal terms and pass a medical and then get him to sign today, not going to do all of them, yes he could go to Ireland later on but Benitez wants them done now, that’s If we are after him of course, no doubt we will be linked again with another defender today, that’s about 100 now isn’t it.

    Ha ha ha
